I thought so too but the plat says Albans Rd(plotted as Robinhood Ave) so I assumed Robinhood. But yeah those body shops probably got bought out, not the best place for a body shop anymore.

I actually used them once on the recommendation of a friend who had a shop in the area. I left New Orleans after work and after a 5 1/2 hour drive some dummy suddenly switched lanes in front of me to turn left from the right lane at Bagby and Gray St. I think he must have been drunk because he asked me not to call the cops but luckily his insurance paid for the wreck to my car. I was 5 minutes from home.🤬

I think Archimedes is the name of plat submitted, not necessarily the name of whatever is planned here.

It's also possible once this is replatted, the address for the entire property could be 5403 Kirby Dr.

At present, this property consists of four parcels, which all belong to Village Plumbing & Air:

  • 5403 Kirby Dr
  • 2525 Albans Rd
  • 2515 Albans Rd
  • 0 Albans Rd

I think this is the location. This is also right across the street from the redevelopment of the River Oaks Paint & Body shop!

@Amlaham is correct. The submitted plat named Archimedes is for the four parcels at the corner of Kirby Dr and Albans Rd.

Village Plumbing & Air owns the properties which consists of four parcels:

  • 5403 Kirby Dr
  • 2525 Albans Rd
  • 2515 Albans Rd
  • 0 Albans Rd

Parcel map with the street addresses included. The map didn't include 2519 Albans Rd, but it's shown on Google Maps. There is also a small sign on the property between 2525 Albans Rd and 2515 Albans Rd indicating a small parcel as 2519 Albans Rd.

I don't know for certain, but it's possible The Taco Stand is also expanding into the Rice Village area. It may join The Burger Joint restaurant at 5403 Kirby Dr.

The Taco Stand is slated for 2525 Albans Rd in the Rice Village area.

In recent weeks, a DBA filing was submitted for The Taco Stand. The filing lists the address of the business as 2525 Albans Rd.

Along with the 2525 Albans Rd, the 5403 Kirby Dr parcel and adjoining parcels are being combined into one reserve. As noted above, developers proposed a plat for the parcels. Archimedes is the listed subdivision name.

Next to The Taco Stand will be The Burger Joint at 5403 Kirby Dr. Both restaurant are across the street from the forthcoming retail development at 5333 Kirby Dr.

A sewer disconnect / plumbing permit for 2525 Albans Road was filed a couple of days ago.

There are plans for The Taco Stand restaurant at 2525 Albans Rd.

In addition to The Taco Stand, a Rice Village area outpost of its sister concept The Burger Joint is in the works. The Burger Joint will be located next door at 5403 Kirby Dr.

There's an upcoming public hearing for a variance request related to the Archimedes plat. It's on the agenda for this week's planning commission meeting.

Developers are seeking a variance request "to allow a dual building line for a structure encroaching the 10' BL."

The Archimedes plat is at the intersection of Kirby Dr and Albans Rd. It's owned by Monica Ryan of Village Plumbing & Air. The plat consists of the following parcels:

  • 5403 Kirby Dr
  • 2525 Albans Rd
  • 2515 Albans Rd
  • 0 Albans Rd

Below are details pertaining to the variance request from documents included in the agenda.

From the public hearing notice sent to nearby residents:

... Archimedes; a partial replat of “Sunset Court” subdivision, being Lots 1 – 7, and the west 35 ft of Lot 8, in Block 5, as recorded in Volume 725, Page 595 of the Harris County Deed Records.

The property is located at the southeast intersection of Kirby Drive and Albans Road, south of Bissonnet Street. The purpose of the replat is to create one Commercial reserve. The applicant, [is] Chris Garcia, with DVJ Civil Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc., on behalf of the developer, AAT Services...

From documents included in the agenda:

Specific Variance is being sought and extent of variance:
To allow a dual Building line for a structure encroaching the 10' BL.

Chapter 42 Section: 42-150
Chapter 42 Reference:

42-150 Building line requirement . a) An improvement that requires a building permit shall not be constructed with the building line requirement established by this chapter.

The primary brick and mortar building at the direct intersection of Kirby and Albans was built in 1950, in 1990 they added a metal warehouse in the back that connects to the brick and mortar. Their intention is to convert the land into a restaurant and the warehouse will serve as storage room which leaves the brick and mortar building entirely for restaurant space for patrons. Strict enforcement of Chapter 42-150 would impede the business’s opportunity to maximize the expansion of their business endeavor that would successfully serve its Houstonians. We are committed to adhering to all other zoning regulations and building codes, and we understand the importance of preserving the integrity of the neighborhood. This variance request in particular is solely to address the specific challenges posed by the property’s unique characteristics.

The circumstances supporting the granting of a variance are not a result of a hardship created by  the applicant. It is an existing condition of the older home built in 1950 combined with the metal  addition in 1990 that is attached to the original brick and mortal building.

The intent and general purpose of this chapter will be preserved because the proposed dual building line is staying within the guidelines of original plat and deed restrictions. Any additional structures or changes to the building following the approval of the plat will be required to adhere to the 10’ building line along Albans and 25’ building line along Kirby.

Granting of the variance will not be injurious to public heath and safety it will only improve existing conditions for 5403 Kirby Drive.

Just as an FYI for everyone:  a dual-building line variance allows they to be granted a much smaller building line for their existing structure, which typically couldn't be built today. If/when the historical building is demo'd, then it reverts to the second building line that is being established today.

Burger Joint.

Met with the same guy I have talked with before at Happy Go Lucky. He seems to be a supervisor for Shawn Bermudez projects around town. Told me he goes to all the various projects around town and takes progress pics and sends them to Shawn's uncle who works with Shawn.

He said those big openings in the front will have garage style doors and will be open when the weather permits, the section behind it will have tables. The room will have the high ceiling.

This will be the bar area.

The metal portion in the back of the building will be the kitchen.

He also said they are adding a Taco Stand by to the Burger Joint in Clear Lake on W. Bay Area Blvd.

Yep. The construction diagram submitted several months ago to the city (when the developer was seeking a variance request) indicates The Burger Joint's forthcoming location at 5403 Kirby Dr will include garage doors.

I think the garage doors are a feature for The Burger Joint (like the Heights and this one.) The feature is also planned for the forthcoming Memorial location at 1016 Gessner Rd.

The diagrams were posted several posts up:

Yeah, this is old news. There are several news articles from 2022 about The Taco Stand expanding to Webster.

Additionally, The Taco Stand's Webster outpost at 118 El Dorado Blvd is discussed on the forum for the development it's going in: East Baybrook.
