Residents rate The Woodlands with annual survey

Road congestion, growth concerns top worry list

The Woodlands received good marks on its latest resident report card, but it still has work to do on traffic congestion, development, safety and contact with the public.

The Community Associations of The Woodlands commissions a resident survey every 18 months to gauge residents' satisfaction with services and to identify issues of concern to them. The Woodlands has received consistently high remarks since it began surveying residents in 1996 and 2005 was no exception.

"The survey found the same issues keep popping up year after year, such as traffic, overdevelopment, annexation and law enforcement, said Joyce Walter, executive vice president of Creative Consumer Research, a firm that has handled the community's survey since 1996. "The concerns over the last six to seven years have not changed," Walter said.

OK, explain to me how these people can be so pleased with themselves, when they say that residents have complained about the same 4 issues for 7 consecutive years. I suppose that this falls under the lies, damned lies and statistics category, but it seems to me that residents ought to call the association out on the carpet for not doing anything about their biggest concerns year after year.

annexation will continue to be an issue until 2012 unless the woodlands develops an alternative before then.

law enforcement is always a concern for unincorporated areas. in the past several years, the woodlands, town center improvement district and shenandoah have increased security with additional patrols in areas near shenandoah and town center, bike cops and mounties. recently, there have been funds made available for additional county patrols.

as for traffic and overdevelopment, the almighty dollar rules. the slow, controlled pace of the woodlands' earlier days are long gone.
