SpaceAge
January Mod of the Month Houston Mod invites you to join us this Sunday, January 25, 2015 for a Mod of the Month open house event from 2 - 4 PM. A vintage 1970s modern style townhouse situated three miles southwest of downtown Houston is featured. The townhouse is in need of new preservation-minded owners. Thanks to Houston MODern Market for sponsoring this FREE event. 2907 Virginia Street, College Heights, Houston, Texas 77098 Burdette Keeland designed these architecturally significant 'ski-slope roof' townhouses in 1974. The complex was a design-build project on land Keeland's mother owned. 2907 Virginia has been thoughtfully maintained in nearly original condition by its long-term owner who was a friend of Keeland and had the unit furnished in vintage modern pieces. The ground floor entrance from the double carport leads to the kitchen, dining room, and one bedroom, all with a bright indoor-outdoor flow to the rear patio space. The main entrance is on the second level into the living space with soaring vaulted ceilings. This level also has a study and connects to a street-side roof garden. The master bedroom suite is on the top level with abundant natural light and a connection to the rear exterior stairway leading to an elevated viewing deck. Burdette Keeland (1926-2000) designed some of Houston's most beloved modern buildings. Click to see featured work by Keeland on the HM website. From the Mod of the Month, you can walk one block west and see Keeland's own residence located at 2907 Ferndale Street. Keeland had architecture degrees from the University of Houston and Yale. He shaped Houston by teaching at the UH College of Architecture for over 40 years and serving on the city planning commission for over 30 years. 2907 Virginia HAR Link Discuss this house and over 800 other mod topics at the Houston Mod Discussion Forum.
