Houston Police Department At 1127 N. Shepherd Dr.

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a great summer. I have been asked to pass on

a couple of things to P.I.P. members.

For those who could not attend the P.I.P. meeting last Wednesday, I

wanted to make sure everyone knows that effective July 1, 2009, the

Heights Storefront will be open from 7 AM until 8 PM, Monday - Friday.

The Heights Storefront is located at 1127 North Shepherd. The Ana Maria

Lopez Storefront, located at 1050 Quitman in the Carnegie Library, will

be open 8 AM until 4 PM, Monday - Friday. The Lopez Storefront will be

staffed with a Police Service Officer.

Attached is a letter from Lt. Miller about bicycle lanes. I have also

copied it below for anyone that is apprehensive about opening email

attachments!

My bad. I didn't realize there was a forum topic about bicycling on Heights vs cars. This HPD message is in regard to this topic.

Other than that, the Heights storefront hours are longer so customers (taxpayers) like me do not have to take a day off to report their crime to the storefront.

While on the subject of bicycling in the Heights, a cyclist was knocked off his bike at the corner of 7th and Harvard yesterday (not injured fortunately). The cyclist was on the new bike path on 7th, crossing Harvard. Harvard at that point is a 2-way stop, and there's no stop sign on Harvard itself, nor any warning that there's a bike crossing. I think that's a general need for improvement - where a bike path crosses a road, then there needs to be signs reminding cyclists to stop/look and warning drivers to slow/stop.

That junction itself could use being a 4 way stop anyway - the corners are overgrown and it's difficult to see speeding cars coming down Harvard.
