Talk about bad timing for the Dems.

Typical political sex scandal...

...but my sources are telling me this:

Ya know, Mahoney isn't the only one with questionable financial dealings. Tomorrow, a US Congressman is going to drop by and think, "Oh s _ _ _, that's me he's talking about."

See you first thing in the morning when a special BlogActive investigation reveals something quite interesting.

Wonder what Mike Rogers has in store for us... I guess we'll know more tomorrow.

Well, at least it's a Democrat this time. The last three or four have been Republicans, and I'm tired of my blue friends e-mailing me links to the stories.

Yeah, but Dims had them lapped way before that.

JFK...Ted Kennedy's Chappaquiddick incident...Bill and Monica...the sordid Barney Frank gay page scandal...the Mark Foley gay sex emails scandal...

Do I need to go on?

I didn't think so.

I'm not excusing any such similar behavior by Republicans...but let's be honest, ok?

You can add another Republican to your list.

No not Larry where-has-that-hand-been Craig. That's a picture of Virgil Goode (R-VA), on the right. His openly gay press secretary, who made a speaking appearance in a gay porn film ("Eden's Curve"), has been tied to an earmark to the theater/producer of that gay porn film. In the gay porn film, Virgil Goode is mentioned in the closing credits.

So what's the big deal? Well... conservatives hate earmarks, right? Conservatives really don't like gay people either, do they? Well...

You read it here first: After his press secretary got his first film acting break in a movie filled with gay sex and drug use, the conservative Republican Congressman moved an earmark for $150,000 to the very theater run by the movie's producer. And get this, the press secretary is on the board!

This is immaterial to all things related to ones ability to be able to do their job.

In terms of heterosexual cheating on your wife (assuming you are also heterosexual), you may be right. But if you're a self-hating gay Republican, or part of that apparatus... it is material to one's ability to be able to do their job honestly.

Yeah, that's right. Members of one party or the other are mass-produced robots, programmed to support a party platform (which in reality is not particularly internally consistent). Variation from that platform in any form is indicative of a defect, meaning that the unit must be replaced.

Yes, Please go on, Brainiac!

Hey GENIUS! You misread my post!

Hold my hand and let's walk through this...

Foley was the LAST one I mentioned...and I said Republicans don't get off the hook either.

leave chris bell out of this.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Ok!

I agree. Perhaps Larry Craig should take your advice. There's really no need for airport bathroom sex in this country.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly.

And that's why I think there's no need for gay prostitution ring people like Barney Frank either.

...if you espouse one set of principals, but don't live according to those principals... you're a hypocrite... and need to be exposed and replaced.

I don't think so. It's like the thing with the former governor of New York and the hooker. It opens up a public official to the opportunity for blackmail, exposure of government secrets, and more. It's a bad situation that no elected leader should be in.

It also reminds me of the 1996 presidential election when the Republicans kept hammering that character matters, and the Democrats kept saying that character doesn't matter. Well, we found out pretty quickly after that that character does matter, and even the Democrats in 2000 backed away from the "character doesn't matter" line.

I'm not saying that either Democrats or Republicans have a monopoly on questionable behavior; that's just my favorite example.

Bottom line: Character matters, and no elected officials should be having affairs.

Well... conservatives hate earmarks, right?

Actually, hatred of earmarks crosses party lines, as does a love of them. John McCain has taken a very public stand against earmarks, but that doesn't necessarily make it a conservative issue.

Mahoney's already way behind in the polls anyway, so this is a non story. The real story here is Rahm Emanuel's attempt to cover it up, especially in light of his involvement and exact opposite behavior in the Mark Foley stuff two years ago.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, to answer the question by the topic title, if there is ever a good to time have a sex scandal break, now is that time. With the economy dominating the news, this story did not even make it for 24 hours, and since Dems did not come to Mahoney's defense whatsoever, it was a non-issue for everyone except Mahoney.

So, yes, what GREAT timing. Slightly worse timing perhaps, would be Ted Stevens' conviction just 7 days before the election.

Yet, somehow you've ignored the stock_Republican-elephant.gif

in the living room - John McCain repeatedly cheated on his first wife.

And it is he - not Barney Frank, not Ted Kennedy - who is running for President.
