editor Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Does anyone know the name or address of the building downtown near the bayou that was intentionally built to make it look like the back had collapsed into the bayou? I think it's on Milam. I know it's been discussed before on HAIF, but I just can't find it. Quote

RedScare Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It wasn't built to look like it was collapsing. The back wall actually HAD collapsed. The owner merely chose to keep the look in his renovation of the building. Quote

travelguy_73 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Does anyone know who owns this place?HCAd shows that James Peterson owns it, not that . I'm probably mistaken, but it seems like the last time I looked the property up, it had a homestead exemption. However, now it doesn't. Quote
westguy76 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I grew up near a sort of famous building that was designed to look like it was falling down: yes, I remember this, near Almeda mall, right? Quote
crunchtastic Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 yes, I remember this, near Almeda mall, right? There was a Best across from the old Town and Country. Just south of 1-10 on the west side of the road. Do I have that right? Quote
Original Timmy Chan's Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 yes, I remember this, near Almeda mall, right?I grew up in the area too, Beverly Hills and Sagemont. Took karate lessons down the street in the block building at Beverly Hills Park and spent many many bored hours around the corner at the Sears Surplus store. When I was a child, I was absolutely certain that that BEST store was an old fort. You couldn't convince me that those walls didn't crumble from a heroic battle, and in my mind these battles certainly involved Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. The building is still there, but it's an absolute travesty what's been done to it. Some #$%@ing sick moron straightened up all the walls..."fixed" 'em. Quote
houstonmacbro Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Interesting. Speaking of collapsing buildings, does anyone remember the old Best building out on the Gulf Freeway? The front of it was made to look like it collapsed as well. Quote

Daniepwils Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 At night the back of this building is pretty cool looking, it is all glass on the backside, and you can see into the building. Quote

The only reason I do is because the people who own these lofts have done a great job on the insides. They are really cool and trendy looking. Quote
