KatieDidIt Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 We are seeing a lot of "SPY9" tagging in West Houston. Is this a gang? Anyone know any background? It seems to be all over the Galleria area and in places in eastern Memorial. Prolific little group. Quote
musicman Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 i would say a gang. contact your nearby police station and they could tell you immediately. Quote

ricco67 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 depending on how its done and where, it could just be some DJ hyping himself up. Quote
jgriff Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 It can sure bring property values down if it's not removed. If I see graffiti in a neighborhood when I'm looking for a house I'm gone. Quote

Nice to promote yourself on private property. Quote
houstonmacbro Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 depending on how its done and where, it could just be some DJ hyping himself up.I was watching this segment on LatiNation and they had these graffiti artists from Brazil doing their work all over the city. They were like stars and respected as artists. Quote
sevfiv Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I checked on Dirty Third and didn't see anything by that name...is it artsy or just marker scribbly-ish? Quote
KatieDidIt Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 I checked on Dirty Third and didn't see anything by that name...is it artsy or just marker scribbly-ish?Its in those big puffy letters that girls used to put on their notebooks in Jr. High. But right next to SPY9 are several other "markings" claiming this is "My ditch *itch" So it looks like tagging and counter tagging.Maybe its considered art in Brazil, but this isn't Brazil. Quote
sevfiv Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I saw some of the tags yesterday evening along Richmond between Greenridge and Hillcroft. No puffy letters, though - just single line hurried scribble. Quote
PuroAztlan Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Is this a gang?Yes. Its a gang. Its a huge, deadly organization of gay teens who tried really, really hard to come up with the gayest name ever for a gang of street toughs. Spy9. The gang. :ugh: Quote

editor Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I've never understood the point of all the bubble letters and scribble. The whole point of graffiti is to convey a message. If no one can read it, you fail. Quote
20thStDad Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I agree, graffiti gangs should standardize to Arial or Times New Roman, it would greatly increase effectiveness of messaging. Quote
travelguy_73 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Can't tell if you are joking or serious. If you encounter them will they go all Project Runway on you? "That tagging is a tranny mess!" * *(if you watch it, you'll get it) Quote
