TheNiche
http://www.beacon-island.com/ Excerpt from Developer's Vision: The chosen architectural style borrows from the southern charm of colonial, coastal Carolina and Georgia; residential components will combine high-rise and mid-rise condominiums with clusters of low-rise townhomes, villas or patio homes, adjacent to premium waterfront estate lots. Cuz that's what colonial Carolina and Georgia were all about...highrises. ^Another example of neotraditionalism run amok.
fromsc2tx
Hmm...the website uses images of Savannah & Charleston to convey the sense of style & architecture one can expect. From what I saw, it looks more like S. Florida to me. Try again.

UrbaNerd
Well, hey; this beats uncontrolled sprawl. At least they can pitch a gate and charge admission, and get people to wait for hours to get on a ride, or something!

UrbaNerd
This is far worse than sprawl. It is Disnification. But hey, some people seem to want to live in a Disnified world. If there is a market for it, and someone can make a profit, then it will be done. Not my style, though, but hey, whatever does it for them. lockmat
Update from their website. Utility construction is virtually complete and preparation for street paving and bridge construction is underway. We look forward to breaking ground later this summer on the first homes to be built on Beacon Island and also to beginning construction on village amenities: the grand entryway and Pilot's House, Commander's Club and the clubhouse pool.Per their timeline, the boardwalk should be complete. Has anyone seen it?
