  1. Yes, save yourself the inconvenience. That interchange will be bad enough. Don't make your life more miserable.
  2. As everyone has said, it's not to bad on the way in. The way out is as bad as ever. The worst part for you will probably be traffic though, particularly if they decide to have lane closures on 290, which has been going on both at 610 and around Beltway 8. You'll probably also have some fun traffic once you get to downtown. Just make sure you're not in the two left lanes as those exit onto 45.
  3. It seems unnecessary. Just give better access onto Hardin Store Road and maybe upgrade it a bit. That is a good connection road over to 249.
  4. It's always interesting to see how an area changes over time. When I go into street view on Google Maps, it still marks Eldridge as Susquehannah Drive in that area. Thanks for sharing!
  5. I'll take their fogettable Bryan Tower instead of the unforgettably bad Memorial Hermann Tower in West Houston.
  6. That's cool looking. Like a spaceship above the woods.
  7. I'm starting to think the high-speed line may beat all of them to the finish line...
  8. I figured this would already be posted here. The comments, as always, are entertaining. http://www.chron.com/houston/article/New-Urban-Land-Institute-plan-for-Astrodome-calls-6153207.php#photo-7291846
  9. In reference to the FAA junk, the story from the 600 Travis website is interesting: Source: http://www.chasetower.com/building.php?sect=1 Apologies for contributing to the off-topic part of this thread.
  10. It's good to know that Bullet-Tooth Tony is driving around in a Porsche scrubbing the seedy underbelly of Houston.
  11. I thought this might be of interest to some of the people in here. It caught my eye, and I figured I'd share it. http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/feb/27/googles-new-headquarters-upgradable-futuristic-greenhouse
  12. It looks like a large number of buildings on the A&M campus with that brick.
  13. Are you sure that's 610 in the shot? You must have Photoshopped out the other 100 cars that were originally in the image.
  14. That sounds like one of those goofy neighborhood nicknames: South of Allen Parkway (SOAP).
  15. It looks like it went from Midtown Manhattan to downtown Austin.
  16. That view on 59 has been interesting to watch over the past few months. It will soon look dramatically different. Crane watching around town has become a fun spectator sport.
  17. Maybe not the best photo of the actual project, but the photo looked cool this morning when I took it. I figured I'd share it here.
  18. About 2 1/2 hours east, you can go up Highway 4 to Calaveras Big Trees State Park, just east of Arnold. If you like walking around through Giant Sequoias, that's a nice area to see. I personally hated the Haight-Ashbury area as when I was walking around, I had a bunch of homeless twenty-somethings strung out on drugs fighting each other on the sidewalk with another group just a bit further down standing in the sidewalk staring down my sister and me for no real reason. Other than that, walking around by The Embarcadero is nice. If you like German food, there's a restaurant called Leopold's by Russian Hill which is really tasty. The City Hall is a cool building to see. As others have said, Muir Woods is very easy to get to. You don't get charged going north across the Golden Gate, but coming back it's $6 or $7 depending on if you use FasTrak or the pay-by-plate option. They don't take cash at the booths anymore. However on the Bay Bridge, it's $6 cash or FasTrak. You don't have the pay-by-plate option there. Just keep that in mind. BART is pretty easy for going back and forth across the bay though, and MUNI will get you most everywhere you want to go in the city. As others have mentioned, Highway 1 is very nice to drive down, particularly south of San Francisco between Monterey and San Simeon (where you'll find both an elephant seal rookery and the Hearst Castle). However, this is a very long drive (a bit over 4 hours one way). San Bruno Mountain State Park is nice for hiking if you're into that sort of thing, and it's right next to the airport, so you're not too far out there. Regarding the time of the year: late fall through early spring is generally rainy, while summer tends to bring about coastal fog. Later in the spring is a great time for sunny weather without too much fog. In the summer, the fog generally will burn off by midday, except at the immediate coast. In the winter, fog occurs inland (due to moist grounds) instead of the coastal summer fog. As for temperatures, around SF and the Bay (coastal), it's generally in the 50's-60's for highs during the winter and 60's-70's for highs during the summer. Go across the mountains to the east just past Dublin in the summer and you'll watch the temperature go up into the 90's. As mentioned above, temperature is highly dependent on where you are. These were just a few more things I could think of when reading through this.
  19. Remember, friends: Don't drive while intoxicated. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Witnesses-Driver-plunged-20-feet-into-downtown-5924452.php
  20. Yeah, to be fair: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/Today-s-bargain-oil-may-have-a-high-price-later-5923508.php#/0
  21. Using United's website: IAH-->SFO-->IAH |12/15/14 - 12/18/14 | $600 non-stop / $432 with stops SFO-->IAH-->SFO | 12/15/14 - 12/18/14 | $570 non-stop / $402 with stops
  22. Why would he express interest in commuter rail on the 290 or US 90A corridors then?
  23. About 10 years back, that was a used car lot. I remember that much from when I was a kid. I do think there was a pizza place there at one point, but it's hard to remember.
