Thanks so much sevfiv for the link!

oh my! that's fantastic...i am so glad it is picking up signatures so quickly!

sooo...some have memories of the theater, some like to visit it and the stores around it, some just think it is neat, and some like nostalgia and the link with some history...

much like maria isabel and the demoltion of the valentine house in the sixth ward, there are countless other locations for these "projects."

there is such great irreverence and obtrusiveness when it comes to houston and anything pre-1975

thank goodness i collect postcards <_<

  2. You know I was thinking and forgot about another Beatle connection to Houston besides Billy Preston.

Ringo Star was a huge Lightning Hopkins fan and had decided to move to Houston to be near him. he had his plane ticket and was ready to come over, however something (I can't remember) happened that stopped the move.

found this, but not sure about credibility:

Ringo made up his mind to immigrate to Texas opting for a factory job in Houston, but the complicated immigration forms put him off.

  3. there will always be panhandlers - if they are breaking the law, and receive a citation, what good does that do? jail? free bed and meal, on us.

no one likes to be bothered, but like mentioned earlier, depending on one's attitude, it doesn't have to be so bothersome.

and we rarely know the circumstances that put them where they are now.

the liars are more insulting, though (i need gas, but won't meet you at the station, or get really peeved when you tell them to call the 800 number on the back of their license or callmap).

  4. the HBJ article is here, but there is a problem at the site right now...

    yahoo's works, though

The 50,000-square-foot Masterson YWCA facility, which opened in 1981, has been closed for almost a year. Located at 3615 Willia, near Waugh and Memorial Drive, it adjoins Spotts Park -- an ideal location for YMCA summer youth activities.

"A needs assessment commissioned by the YMCA of Greater Houston board several months ago determined that there is a shortage of services for children, families and seniors in that area," said Clark Baker, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Houston. "Ultimately, the YMCA cannot ignore the opportunity to preserve such important services inside the city limits."

  5. there is a problem at myspace right now:

    MySpace.Com - Undergoing Maintenance
