You guys are unbelievable. One, I'm not against UH getting a medical school, I'm a proud alum, so let's get that out of the way. But I'll clue you in on why the Texas Medical Center became the juggernaut that its become. Its because its land locked. All the member institutions had no choice but to build next to each other and that critical mass of sharing, exchanging, pooling of employees, physicians, scientists is why the TMC is so great. Really, others have tried to replicate it but without success. Do you think the Debakey/Cooley rivalry could have occurred if they were opposite sides of town, for example? Maybe, but it sure didn't hurt them being right next to each other. It would have been much better to have the medical school participate in this. That's all I'm saying. But there was a lot of back room politics to get the state to approve the school, so who knows, maybe locating it in an "underserved" area that several posters point out is just minutes form the TMC (where you can get as much underserved patients as you want, I'm looking at you Ben Taub), was the only way for UT the state allow it.

I moved offices close by this project and they are making fast progress since the winter/spring delays. Four restaurants are in various phases of construction with In'n'Out closest to being completed. They've also graded the grounds for what looks to be parking lots for the rest of the structures. I don't see any progress on the actual original TI building from the outside but they could be doing interior work (like asbestos abatement). Overall looking good for Stafford!

Thanks for the insight, especially for those posters that thought my post had no credibility in regards to having the med school located in the World Renowned Texas Medical Center. Seems the powers that be also thought that it was a good idea.

Its just that there's a world class medical center in our backyard but instead of participating in it we choose to go at it alone? Heck, Rice doesn't have a Med school but they have a building in the med center, as do a number of schools.

That's a dumb place to put a medical school. Separated from the main campus AND the TMC. Turning its back on resources that is existing already and could attract great students! Don't forget HBU!

That's not a good place for a quick lube. -
Bravo. Commercial isn't appropriate there. So many other places to put it in Bellaire.
-
Nice, its a old Eckerd Drugs building that was converted into a pawnshop. Not really a great visual in Bellaire proper.

Bellaire opened their new Police Station. While it looks better than before, Bellaire really missed an opportunity to create a unified and cohesive look to their city center. The station looks nothing nor references anything from the newish Fire Station across the street. The Fire Station at least references the community center/gym pool. The new city Hall although matching the police station, makes no reference to the newly built Condit Elementary right across the street! Just a terrible mishmash of styles and design. No master planning at all. They really missed a great chance to give Bellaire some character. http://m2lassociates.net/wp-content/gallery/bellaire-fire-station/bellaire-firestation-15_after.jpg http://www.photoshelter.com/gal-kimg-get/G0000I.w7bs6wsI0/s/600

Self driving cars will help traffic because they won't be a-hole drivers cutting in line or running red lights or cutting people off or swerving 3 lanes to make an exit or turning left from the right lane or blocking an intersection. All these things add up to make traffic terrible in Houston. I blame the unlicensed drivers from third world countries and then the licensed drivers following suit. I for one can't wait for self driving cars to get these terrible drivers from driving!

That's going to be a beautiful shopping mall when its done.

It has hit critical mass. What Chinatown needs is a signature piece of architecture. Like a public square or statue or something. In fact, Houston in general is lacking of strong public works of art or signature buildings to make it easy recognizable.

I hope not. I like Chinatown as it is and hope it continues to grow. We need "districts" so that Houston gets some character at least. Once we start spreading out it just becomes any town USA. Our Chinatown is really getting pretty nice, much better than it was when it was downtown.

Drove by and it looks like they are making slow but steady progress on the streets. Maybe the wet winter we had slowed them down. Anyway I hope it pushes through as it looks like a neat project.
