  1. Mine looks very similar except it doesnt have the fancy carving on the feet and sides. It has that fin that sticks out on the sides but its plain. I think it was the model VV XII. It also has the little nails that screw into place on the phono arm. I found a place in Baytown that will refinish it for a reasonable price. They did an antique chair for me some years ago and did a fantastic job. Its a good drive for me but the other people wanted 600 to 800 dollars to do it. Town and Country will do it for 350.
  2. If it were still original I wouldnt touch a thing. But since my mother painted it I want to get the paint off. I'm picking the victrola up friday at my moms and I cant wait to see the date on it. I'll let you know when I find out. They probably had some of these on the Titanic. I actually have a room dedicated to Titanic and the Victrola will go in there. How very cool. Thanks.
  3. I have an old Victrola in a cabinet that stands about 4 feet tall. Back in the late 60's when the craze came to antique everything, my mother did just that. That beautiful Victrola with the beautiful patina that belonged to my great grandmother was painted green! Now mom doesnt want it anymore and I know there is beautiful wood under all that paint. Does anyone know of a furniture guy or gal that does great work and isnt too expensive. I just want it stripped to the original wood and some kind of protection..(not glossy) put on it. Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Yes!, Thats what it looks like. Trampoline World? Too funny. Thanks for a laugh this Monday morning, Marty
  5. Great photos! In the first photo, upper right, what is that thing that looks like a big black hole?
  6. Sounds great, I'll have to go there. The only haunted house I have ever been to was in The KILT Haunted House in 1974. It was an actual old 2 story wooden home somewhere near Downtown. Oh wait.. I've been to two. The other one was the Sims Estate on Wayside. Park Memorial Baptist church rented the place in 1973 and turned it into a haunted house for 1 night. It was the best. Even the grounds were creepy.
  7. My brother was in the boy scouts for about 3 months back in 1965. He said he got out because he liked fast cars and girls a lot more than camping and bisquick.
  8. Yes, theres one there but I'm in League City right where it meets Friendswood. We have no Arbys. The only time I get Arbys is sometimes for lunch at work. I work off Dixie Farm Road and go to the Almeda Arbys.
  9. Why do people build a perfectly good Home Depot and then relocate it a mile ot two up the road? We are up to our necks in Home Depots over here. How about just build an Arbys instead so I won't have to drive to Almeda Mall.
  10. That is a great picture. Would that be the West mansion in the lower right?
  11. Hey marmer we had the same idea. I was looking at the schools up close with live local. I didnt see any that matched. I checked out the high school for law enforcement, the old George Washingto Junior High but no luck there either. It has only one large arch instead of three.
  12. I know for a fact that its not Jackson, Lanier, Deady or Edison. Many of the kids in the photo look of Asian descent.
  13. Wow, thats a good way to do it. Then you wouldnt have the excuse of "I left my book at school" when you had to do homework. I think some classes at Deer Park have it set up that way.
  14. I remember when I was in school everyone carried a book satchel. It looked similar to a briefcase. Most of them were plaid. I went to Burnet, Jackson and Austin. There were lockers for each student at each school. Lockers are nice but I still carried almost every book I had with me from class to class because my locker was on the third floor. Too much distance to be exchanging books between classes. I thought they were just going to change to clear backpacks so you could see what was in them. And now no backpacks at all? What next?
  15. I agree with repainting the trim a nice soft green. Maybe a sage color. I also fully agree with the shutters. When I bought my house I couldnt quite figure out what was missing and why the the front of my home looked so blah. It had the same colors as yours. My neighbor said that there used to be shutters on the front windows. I went to Lowes and bought shutters, painted them a soft green along with all my trim and its a new house. I also added lots of blooming plants to add color. After that we had a write up in our neighborhood news paper as the most improved home. It was really a cheap way to change the look of the house.
  16. Once again Boris, Great pictures. Thanks for taking the time to post them. I love small towns. And that church is beautiful.
  17. 1800 28 400.00 TXU I keep the ac set on 70. This is the highest light bill I have had in the last 6 years. Last month it was 275.
  18. The sueing part was a futile attemp at lighthearted humor. My co-worker smoke Nazi already had Ms annoying woman of the DECADE all locked up.
  19. Even the 25 ft part? Thats what she harping on. Can I sue her for being annoying?
  20. No one in my building cares if the smokers smoke out in the smoking area or in front of the building. These people are our friends. But just wait.. Come Sept. 1st smoke Nazi will be out there with tape measure in hand. We really wish someone would drop a house on her. The boss made the mistake of making her saftey officer a few years ago because no one else wanted the job. Now she thinks shes SOMBODY!!
  21. Thanks musicman. Oh.. I did drink a beer this weekend with no side effects. Doc says it was a reaction to the alcohol and the bactrim.
  22. I dont smoke but a few of my friends here at work do. The smoke Nazi just told them that they cant smoke out in the side yard which is the designated smoke area because it is not 25 feet from a door. The only people that use this door is the people that go out there to smoke. She says that what the houston ordinance says. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the ordinace? I think shes taking this a bit far. The boss man doesnt seem to care who smokes where. Its the smoke nazi that has the problem. Our company only has 14 people and of the 14 only 1 is a bad egg. She has nothing to do but find something to gripe about. No one likes her, no one talks to her. She has now earned the new name of Spider Pig. Help me find a way to shut her up!
