  1. Renovation of three floors totaling approximately 135,000 GSF within Mid Campus One Building (1MC) for the relocation of the School of Health Professions. https://solutions-selectsite-documents.s3.amazonaws.com/Sourcingevent/1123561-event.pdf?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Date=20230220T230320Z&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&X-Amz-Expires=3600&X-Amz-Credential=AKIAJ5HNJE5DFBZ5ONSA%2F20230220%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Signature=c0ba5a21f00873092a511b9e5d0d1ba6f47e6dfeda6b2ff986f271bc7e419495 The relocation of the School of Health Professions is required in order vacate and demolish the Jones Research Building and Bates-Freeman building. The size of the space to be renovated is approximately 135,000 GSF. The Construction Manager’s Budget Limitation (“CMBL”) is: Ninety-Four Million Dollars ($ 94,000,000.00)
  2. Healthcare ratings!! Becker's Hospital Review https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/
  3. I wonder the comparison between the University of Texas System and Johns Hopkins University? I believe my uncle worked at JHU..
  4. Texas Medical Center / TMC Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan among others, is a medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids. It is commonly used to counter decreased breathing in opioid overdose. Effects begin within two minutes when given intravenously, and within five minutes when injected into a muscle.
  5. Was the Shamrock 6 more popular than the infamous Shamrock 4 Cinemas Theater located 6900 South Main? I wonder the change of ownership and additional film screens? Who bought and expanded the theater?
  6. 1MC will house the UTHealth School of Public Health for $100 million for the next 6 years? Confusing. Okay, while demolishing the old School of Public Health, and building the new one on the South Campus might be 6 years. Just kind of crazy how they would spend $100 million on a temporary build out.
  7. I've heard the following illegal drugs can be used for severe depression: Ketamine, Psilocybin, and MDMA. I would like to see the continued research of illicit drugs that can be altered at the cell level to produce therapeutic effects. Science is amazing. Any science that could potentially benefit the human body is good. Our bodies can be researched and studied forever. Biological life forms will continue to evolve over time.
  8. @LunaSol Are you speaking about the old Dairy Queen located near the intersection of South Post Oak Road & Willowbend Boulevard? The address would be 10601 South Post Oak Road. Some may consider this area as Hiram Clarke, as HC is just 2 miles away on S. Post Oak. History of the site: Originated as a Burger King, then became Dairy Queen, and is now set to become a ClearWater Express car wash.
  9. Agreed. The concept rendering of the site included 2 or 3 high-rises. However, a new CenterPoint substation is actually more beneficial to the emerging area. Technically, this is better than 2 high-rises. We always want road and energy infrastructure improvements in our state. This is a chance of improving it! TMC Helix Park, at full build, is going to be a beast! A small life science city.
  10. Family member diagnosed with stage 4. BCM doctors ordered an extreme treatment plan of both radiation and chemo therapy treatments. He had his big surgery a few weeks ago. He went in for a check-up, and the doctor said they were able to remove all the cancer at the microscopic level! He actually beat stage 4? There is only one thing he has to do now to stay a live and healthy. He has to stop smoking. I haven't seen him smoke for 2 weeks. Last night I noticed he stepped outside and closed the door. Such a shame. That addiction to nicotine and cigarettes!! Disappointed to say the least. I wanted to rant actually. If you need to be smoking something post-cancer maybe you should smoke cannabis? Or vape nicotine at least, do not go back to plain old fashioned cigarettes. Kudos to Baylor College of Medicine!! Forever thankful. Edit: St. Lukes was involved. Baylor St. Lukes
  11. $200 million CenterPoint Energy substation. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/centerpoint-spend-200-million-electricity-17788120.php CenterPoint Energy is planning a substation and upgrades to existing electricity infrastructure to better withstand severe weather in the Texas Medical Center area, the investor-owned utility said Thursday. The Houston-based company plans to spend around $200 million on a series of projects in the Medical Center that are expected to be finished by 2025. It said that includes “system-hardening” projects meant to help protect the flow of electricity to homes and businesses in the area when intense weather hits. The utility will also construct a new substation, which takes the electricity flowing from power plants and changes its voltage to better feed the distribution lines to get electricity to customers.
  12. I found another cement ready-mix plant on Holmes Road! Houston Crushed Concrete located at 1800 Holmes Road. Boy! How many cement plants can there be on a single stretch of road? Pierce Junction used to be all about the energy services, now it seems like it's all construction related businesses. Would all these ready mix plants be able to go anywhere else in the future if the area develops? It's not like they can use one of the hundreds of industrial warehouse developments nearby. They need a separate type of parcel. Maybe they could all move to Hiram Clarke a few miles over? Leave the Holmes Road/Buffalo Speedway area for the next Texas Medical Center development, TMC BioPort. If the TMC BioPort actually gets underway, it would be an unusual setting to have 5 concrete plants next door. Although, the TMC BioPort is technically an industrial/warehouse/distribution development as well. They kind of go together? I guess one is high end cell manufacturing, and the other is dirty cement.
  13. WBC's corporate office is located in downtown at 3800 Milam Street. One of their concrete ready-mix plants is located at 1550 Holmes Road. I believe the Williams Brothers Construction property on Holmes is hindering the Kirby Drive extension to West Airport Blvd. I wonder how long this industrial construction prepping property can last? I'm sure Harris County and TxDOT would love to extend Kirby Drive as the population in the area keeps growing. I give it 10 years! I believe TxDOT awards WBC for almost nearly all Houston freeway projects. Website: https://wbctx.com/ Here's the intersection of Holmes Road at Kirby Drive.
  14. There's a Class-B motel right off the South Loop at South Main called Home Place Inn Medical Center that has an address of 10000 South Main Street. One of the last few remaining "South Main Red Light District" motels. I searched and couldn't find a thread for this. I wonder when the motel will be demolished for something taller and modern that that fits more people? South Main is always changing. Mattress Firm located directly across the freeway is selling their 21-acre campus. I wonder if this particular block would ever change to be more upscale. Instead of an off-brand 2-story hotel we can build a name-brand 5-story hotel. Website: http://www.homeplaceinnmedicalcenter.com/
  15. This 4-story hotel that's a long South Main is up for sale. Lot size is 1.41-acres, built in 2008. The hotel is too new and small to redevelop into anything worth while. I'd say the new buyer would be just a change of ownership and rebranding. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/10025-S-Main-St-Houston-TX/27471110/
  16. I've been wondering when this large parcel of vacant forest land will be sold and developed. I bet an energy company owns it? The area was once known as the Pierce Junction Oil Field. The address is, probably, 0 Almeda Road, but the nearest postal address is 9000 Almeda Road, where the multifamily complex Fountains At Almeda is located. Located near the intersection of Almeda & Holmes. As my usual statement goes: This will probably be sold and developed within the next 10 years. Especially if the TMC BioPort and UT's Holmes Road property goes through with development. How many acres do you think it is? I'm guessing 100-acres, give or take?
  17. I was reading the newspaper Southwestern Times dated April 22, 1948 and came across a business advertisement for Guthrie's Grocery located at 6900 Stella Link Rd. Very cool find!! Love the mom & pop grocery market stores. Now everything is dominated by the "big 3" - HEB, Randall's and Krogers. I believe Walmart's Neighborhood Market is also a big industry player, but they don't have grocery stores on every block like HEB does. Free Delivery - at - Guthrie's Grocery "Your Friendly Neighborhood Grocer" 6900 Stella Link Rd. Phone - M. 2-0147 Monday Through Saturday - 7:30 A.M. to 8 P.M. Sundays - 1 A.M. to 1 P.M.
