Wainwright Elementary School At 5330 Milwee St.
Houstonian in Iraq replied to TJones's topic in Historic Houston
My two older brothers, sis and I all attended the magnet program there. I was there from '86-'89. I enjoyed my time there, kick ass teachers. I loved the modules we had every morning, learned so much. I don't remember the Halloween carnivals too much, the talent shows were always entertaining. Now that the wife and kids are moving to the US from the UK, I'm debating about sending my sons there. There are "better ranked" schools around I know, I guess I will see. They're only two and four so we have time. -
ULI Magazine Discusses Downtown Houston
Houstonian in Iraq replied to TheNiche's topic in Houston and the Media
I go jogging down there at least once a week after 6pm from Eleanor Tinsely Park to right behind Wortham Theater. I only spot two bums down there. One that lives near the Sabine street bridge on a park bench and one that has a chair and his belongings next to a pillar closer to Hobby center. They are both harmless. I have noticed that the lights aren't turned on at some points some nights(it varies). I have seen security roaming from Wortham to a little past Hobby and grounds people on both sides of the bayou from Wortham to Sabine Street bridge. I have seen a pantoon boat going up and down with anywhere from 2-20 people(they should have a phone number posted somewhere on their boat if they're in business of giving tours) -
I stopped by the park yesterday and they were either doing regular maintenance (draining and cleaning) the part of the lake closest to the building right behind the stage or they were prepping it for the rink. Seems a little early to be prepping it, but then again I don't know how long it would take. I cant wait to take the wife and kids to this

Yep Asked the wife about that. She said just about every town has an "High Street" It's kind of like our Main street. Usually trendy shopping on High Street

About a year or so ago in Manchester(UK). My wife, son and I were about to go out one morning. It was like a scene from "Dude where's my car" couldn't find it anywhere on our street. Someone pulled down the window of my wife's car and got it around the corner. Luckily they couldn't get it started because of the car's immobilizer.

Welcome to HAIF. I just got back into Houston last week. This is my first week back since the Hurricane. I had to step out of the country but was able to watch the coverage on Fox and CNN. A buddy of mine works at Chase tower and said he thinks the sky lobby is open. I have tomorrow off and one of my soldiers is in town from San Antonio, I was thinking about showing him the sky lobbies and tunnels.

What Houston High School Did You Attend
Houstonian in Iraq replied to PuroAztlan's topic in General Houston Discussions
The program was tiny, so I'm positive I know who you are( I'll IM). Mr Breinzo was a legend in his own mind. I didn't have Mr Holmes. I forget the name of the Spanish teacher(wasn't Mr Holmes) I had downstairs, he would write me a permit to get out because I already knew Spanish. I would go back to Mr. Sullivan's room when he didn't have a class (home room teacher) and watch "The Andy Griffith Show" every morning at nine on Fox -

Along Buffalo Bayou The City From The Water
Houstonian in Iraq replied to capnmcbarnacle's topic in Photographing Houston
I've been wanting to do this for ages. Just either wasn't in the country, couldn't convince any of my weeney friends to join me, the weather wasn't right, or had to work when the weather was. I'm in town for the next couple months, so if this ever materializes count me in -
They had the water flowing at the "interactive fountain". Looked really nice. I didn't have my camera on me so sorry no pics.

Is that the chick that fills in/co-host for Casey? She is definitely a step up. I only checked out this thread hoping to read news that Casey will be leaving. -

That's pretty much it. I use to do most my training in Aug. It gets really hot and dry around that time of year, it was almost a sure thing that someone became a heat casualty. I did run up there around May and I must admit when it rains and everything is green the post looks nice. Someone had asked earlier about what there is to do there. I just remembered that there is a sports bar with bowling and pool tables, a couple of museums, movie theater with really old movies showing occasionally and of course the main PX and shoppettes. That's about it. You will probably find far more things to do off post. As far as pics, sorry I don't have any (photo taking is usually prohibited or at least frown upon)if I did I wouldn't feel right posting them (OPSEC). You can always google there website.Believe me you are not missing much

Houstonian in Iraq replied to Subdude's topic in Downtown
That's great Push. I jog that trail every now and then. I just haven't been down that way in a while. I might just go down there and check it out for myself. Thanks for the update -
Not much. I guess that's why little towns outside of posts exist. Killeen has really grown over the years. I'm usually on post just for training.

What do you want to know? Yeah it's big, that's about it. To me it's just a regular military post.
