Downtown Tunnel Retail News & Updates
Houstonian in Iraq replied to houstonsemipro's topic in Downtown
Wasn't the one on Calvacade turned into a Dairy Land or a Dairy King or some other cheesy sounding place that no longer is Dairy Queen. I think they still kept the red and white colors though. I can't check it out from here, passed by it about a month or so ago. Anyways, as for the tunnels vs. street retail, I think there is plenty room for both. As stated before there also needs to be good quality stores that will lure people out of the area they're living in to shop downtown, a couple name brand trusted chain stores along with one of a kind stores. Tunnel and street retail will attract residential which would be a major plus to downtown development. -

Houston Welcome Center At 1001 Avenida De Las Americas
Houstonian in Iraq replied to torvald's topic in Downtown
yeah, I stumbled upon it a week ago. I had heard of it but never really bothered looking for. I do wish they would put it in a more visible place or advertise it more -
You are most likely right. I find myself on that sight every now and then. Thanks to who ever posted on SSC

This is my favorite Houston picture. Ran across it online. Don't remember where though.

Yeah the smell of fresh paint was still in the air. Over all it was pretty nice.

Mixed-Use Parking Garage At 820 Main St.
Houstonian in Iraq replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
For those of y'all not familiar with this location. Development is very much welcomed here -
I beleieve there is still plenty of parking around the convention center. The parking wouldn't be right up front like it was prior to the park. That just means people would have to walk, which might just mean a bit more pedestrian traffic. Which is always good.

I just noticed this thread. I gave my sister a ride to this building yesterday. She's a teacher and had something to take care of there. If I would of known it was a topic of a thread I would of gone inside instead of wait in the car.

Astroworld Plot Redevelopment News
Houstonian in Iraq replied to editor's topic in Texas Medical Center
Yeah it was.....the park itself was alright,(like I said the park was a bit run down in some areas). What I liked was the location, heavy pedestrian traffic, the new redone seawall, and the shops. -
Astroworld Plot Redevelopment News
Houstonian in Iraq replied to editor's topic in Texas Medical Center
Like many others I saw this day coming. I just got back from leave(will eventually post pics) Spent it in the UK. We went to Blackpool for a day. We went to this little amusement park across the street from the seawall there. It was a bit crammed and run down(in some places)but it was great. There were rollercoasters and plenty of other rides for everyone. Along the outside perimeter were restruants and shops where people could shop and eat then cross the street to the seawall. Admission was free into the park (rides weren't) so people could go in and out of the gates as they pleased. There was a tram(light rail) along the seawall, so people could park and then ride or walk along the wall. There was plenty pedestrian traffic. Now that Astroworld is closing I would like Houston to still have some form of amusement park nearby. If not within the city limits at least in Galveston. -
I think it's great that Bush(IAH) is adding artwork to liven things up a bit. How's the construction and renivating going. I know terminal E is done and I here it looks good but what about the rest of the airport. They have been at it for years now. I believe since '97. Last I came through there, about a year and a half ago it still looked the same. I have been through several airports and it's sad to say IAH is the crappiest big airport I've seen. I keep on telling myself and friends that come through, that IAH is progressing. I'm sure it takes time and it's not an easy process, but it looks like they're in no hurry.
