  1. I was at Dulles in Sugar Land 1983-86, and don't recall this. But a gang that wants to be perceived as tough enough to kill, calling itself the Smurfs? Come ON!
  2. We're north of Briar Forest, just off Kirkwood, and I would be far more comfortable classing 77077 as Westchase than as Memorial, given the tax base we have.
  3. Muddy, it sounds like Westchase might actually be a good starting point for you. If you're looking at a map of Houston, Westchase is essentially the square formed by Beltway 8 on the east, Westpark on the south, Highway 6 on the west, and Interstate 10 / Katy Freeway on the north. You also might want to check the Katy area, outside Houston on the west side ... it's a tad bit further out than Westchase (our best friends live there, and it takes about 20 minutes to get from our place to theirs). Most of Katy is very nice, and the south end (say, Westheimer at Grand Parkway) is still being built up.
  4. BMC's Houston office is around the corner from my place - it's on Beltway 8, south of I-10. The Westchase area, which surrounds it, is decidedly spotty. Some really nice areas, some not so much. If you might answer Editor's questions, I might be able to help you with super-local advice.
  5. How does one tell? Are there criteria for determining vacancy or abandonment?
  6. As a vicious and heartless neocon, I would pay good money to see homeless people prancing.
  7. That's why most of us have houses, or apartments, or something. I'd far rather take my chances in my house than in something Lee P. Brown commanded the building of.
  8. Cyclists don't irk me nearly as much as all the !#$%^&*() jaywalkers we have in Westchase now. Seems like there's some sort of pride in walking down the STRIPE IN THE MIDDLE OF WILCREST. (Sorry for yelling. They really p!ss me off.)
  9. I work at the Renaissance Festival. Decorum is an unfamiliar concept out there.
  10. As a proto-Victorian, I take umbrage to that ... I don't want to see PDA period. That's why God created boudoirs. ALL of those, Meme, are unacceptable public behaviors. Had I children, I would not want them exposed to any of what you cited.
  11. How about Pasadena? I allegedly have to work a promo in Pasadena Town Square Saturday afternoon.
  12. Which was - let's face it - something of an overresponse, considering that 95% of Houston got what, some wind and a bit of rain?
  13. Sheeats, those are AWESOME boots the stews are wearing! I wonder if I could get me a pair ... ladies' size 10 narrow, in case anyone has a bunch just layin' around...
  14. Buffalo Grill's migas are food of the gods for the hung-over. Or so I hear.
  15. Hey, now! It's where the big shoot-out between Robocop and Cain in Robocop 2! (The Cain thing gave me all KINDS of nightmares.)
  16. Telling you the negatives about John McCain would take DAYS. He's taken great glee over the years in sticking his finger in Republicans' eyes, so when he got the nomination, I was stunned. Pro-amnesty? Check. Global-warming believer? Check. Anti-Gitmo? Check. Constitutional rights for (non-citizen) terrorists? Check. Ringleader of the Gang of 14? Check. McCain-Feingold? Check. Likes to demonize Big Oil? Check. Opposes drilling in ANWR? Check. Opposes repealing Roe v. Wade? Check. I'm not entirely sure what there IS to like, besides Sarah Palin. Oh yeah, and he's not a blatant socialist like Obama. But that's it. Pulling the R lever this year is gonna stink.
  17. A potless Willie - now THAT is a score of a photo. What are the odds?
  18. ZOMG, Coug, you're a Dulles-ite? What year? Class of '86 here. Quail Valley Elementary and Junior High before then.
  19. I trust you're gonna come out to the Renfest this season? It starts October 11 and runs through November 30, including Thanksgiving Friday. Come see me!
  20. 105 and what, might I ask? I have a buddy who lives VERY close to 105 and 1774, and if I get to her place with enough time to spare, I'd love to do a drive-by. HEEEEY, wait a second! Are we talking about Louis C. Kung? (Not to be confused with comedian Louie C.K., of course.) 'Cause if we are, I used to work with his son.
  21. It can't, but the goons who voted for the policy - and the goons who voted for the goons who voted for the policy - can and should be.
  22. Wow, and now it's under $290K. Wonder what happened last week.
  23. FWIW, my grandparents' house in Westbury - probably built in the '50s - had no fireplace. I grew up in Quail Valley (Missouri City), largely built in the '70s, and I don't think a fireplace-less house exists in QV.
  24. Rweil, I don't suppose you remember a teacher named Mrs. Buck, by any chance? She was my grandmother.
