  1. i have a friend looking for full time office work. office assistant, mail room, shipping dept, etc. monster.com is flooded with outdated entries and mostly part time work. if anyone has a lead, i would really appreciate a PM!
  2. had something import to do yesterday and called yellow cab in advance for a cab. scheduled it for 5pm. at 2pm, someone calls and hangs up twice. then i hear honking outside. they sent a cab at 2pm. i call the number and they apologize and reschedule. the cab drives off. at 3pm... same thing. when i get the hang up call i look outside, there's a different cab waiting. after changing it to 5PM again, it drives away. i look out my window around 4:50, and there is the 5PM cab waiting. the atomic clock says 4:48. there has been no hang up call. i don't want to get there too early but i keep obsessing that the cab will drive off or is charging to wait there. sure enough at 4:51, the cab leaves. i sure as hell ran out and flagged it down. i make sure to notice his clock, perhaps he was mistaken... no, it says 4:52. the fella then took me where i needed to go in a round about way. yes, i am complaining but at the same time asking... is there another cab company? reliable?? in houston? i believe yellow cab is in partnership with united cab, is that correct?
  3. wow, folks! watch what sort of vehicles you utilize... you may be telling people more than you think!
  4. do you have a source reference for this? i'm not familiar with any of his rape quotes. if you're ever a lesbian, you can't have kids?!?
  5. i really applaud you folks for your efforts. certainly interesting mystery/thread!
  6. unfortunately, it is different graffiti, yet has been constant since 2004. i just made the connection that the monument will be at the same corner as the bum pee corner i mentioned.
  7. i do not know what wood that is and furthermore, i am upset that i can't live there.
  8. unfortunately w. alabama has a huge graffiti problem. i ride my bike to work in the morning and see them around dawn. residents are very good about removing it but it has gotten much worse over the past year. i live within a few blocks of this location. as far as the pool being a public urinal. i can totally see it. there is more general foot traffic near this location then near the rothko sculpture pool. the most popular place i have either seen or smelled bum pee while riding by is behind the metro stop at montrose and w. alabama, on the st. thomas side. i have seen a patrol car twice in the past week driving down w. alabama with their graffiti task force light. they shined it on me as i was riding by at 6am. i nearly fell off, as i could not see! other than that the other unusual things on my w. alabama ride in the past two months... tire tracks along the yards across from the alabama ice house. the alabama ice house having a CD skipping on their speakers at 5 in the morning, the two of the large planter pots outside cierra broken in two with the plant strewn about and the large marble table in front of the mortuary broken into half and in pieces...
  9. no, although i loved that place. this is specifically a doll maker and doll hospital sort of place.

is it still good? maybe the carters country would buy it?
  11. to correct my own initial post. Isadora's Doll Hospital was on w. alabama. had a client at work mention it today, so now i am at a complete loss as to how the 302 fairview property fits in and believe it may have been the shop owner's former residence after all. next step is to contact the former long-term employee and see if this wild goose chase is getting anywhere... if anyone has an older yellow pages can they tell me if there was a doll maker/hospital on w. alabama or fairview? thanks, i know this is quite random.
  12. some time before 2003. here is the HCAD link a friend attended a sale there and purchased a collection of items. a few years later he gave it to me for my birthday. when i finished looking through the entire collection i started to investigate some of the loose ends. i asked my friend and he gave me a lead today of someone who worked for the dollmaker shop years ago. i assumed that this was something handed down to him though his family, yet it was here in houston the whole time.
  13. so other than the hunt for hulda (link below), i have also been trying to research another long gone houston individual. i had a few leads which have converged to a dead end. that dead end is: 302 fairview (at taft) and was called Isadora's it is now "Leao Do Mar" a recent Portuguese restaurant. the building is much different now, as it is bright yellow and went through much remodeling. i am not sure if this doll maker has relocated. i do not know if the location was previously only a shop or also a residence. all leads stop here and i hope that maybe anything you may know could solve this little mystery -- which i will share with you of course, like our dear hulda!
  14. the odd thing i did that day was have dim sum for absolutely no reason. it seems really silly to go through all that for a garage door opener. that was one of the things i had heard about on another houston forum (IBP): "Very weird! A team member here found an object in the women's restroom that was thought to be a bomb. It was a small black box, about the size of a garage door opener, with a blinking light, a swithch, and two pennies attached to it. She brought it to the deputy sherriff on duty here and he took it outside. There were suddenly several cops here and they all waited around for the bomb squad. The squad came and couldn't determine what it was, so they blew it up. So this was some sort of prank, but why Whole Foods? ...Someone said that one of the coins on the thing was Arabic, but I'm not sure if I would even know an Arabic coin if I saw one." is that a federal offense to do something like that? sounds like someone wanted to go home early to me.
  15. so were there any local odd things, pranks or other mentionables that happened today? 9/11 brings out the worst in folks. i heard of a few random things... anyone else?
  16. me too, the first think i thought of was japanime reatures... bunnies or totoro perhaps.
  17. does it cut down on bandwidth? (aside from a symbolic meaning, of course)
  18. the links don't work. i have fancy some shirts from there that i still wear to work!
  19. i looked on google for a bit for the statues but alas... found nothing. glad to hear they are still there. i remember seeing some little kids walking by and covering their eyes because they were shy.
  20. a friend mentioned a dog whistle but that is pretty harsh. the dogs can't help being cooped up in an apartment all day. i'm not heartless, just irritated. i am planning on maybe talking to my neighbors either today or tomorrow and just mentioning it sort of like: "i'm not sure if you realize it but your dogs make a great deal of noise when they are playing on the wood flooring. what do we do?" and if they are politemaybe we can work it out, if not i'll call the landlord and talk to him about the galloping. i also added a blurb on my reant envelpoe, mentioning it to the landlord and saying that i will speak with the other tenants about a constructive compromise. that way it will prod me to go speak to them and sort of alert him if he is unaware of the dogs.
  21. are you sure it wasn't just forest or something like that? not being offensive, i used to live in the area when it was first built. i do remember the 4 statues at the main entrance... they used to get tagged every few months... usually triangles of pubic hair, bikinis and such.
  22. hello. moved into my apartment after the whole debacle last time and i LOVE it. i love the building and the location. i would really like to stay here a good while. now the problem: some folks moved upstairs with two large dogs (grown lab size). at first i heard one dog walking around and barking but not for too long, usually just when the neighbors left and at the postman, etc. my cat was freaked out at first but sort of got used to it. around 3 or 4am, most mornings i wake to a sound that i mistook for something else... its a dog playing with a toy, rolling around on the floor upstairs in the spot directly above my bed. their floors are wood (as are mine) and it sounds pretty loud. i'm losing sleep over it. yet, i fell bad because the people have a right to own pets, the landlord probably accepted them and i am sure it does not seem as loud to them. for the last 2 days i have listened to the two dogs running back and forth the apartment upstairs obviously playing with a toy... i know this because they keep dropping it... they drop it, it rolls... they chase it, catch it, drop it... run... it's horrible. i can also hear when the owner play with them and bounce the ball and such --- maybe i can ask for them to play outside. what rights do i have as a tenant, it's not a decibel thing, it's a constant, repetition thing. they just moved in and seem like nice enough folks. if i call my landlord, what can he do? what rights do i have? they JUST moved in. i don't want to sound crotchety but it is truly driving me crazy. i assume that he knew about the pets. i am hoping since the galloping has increased, perhaps they are only watching someone else's dog for a time... i will probably call him in a few days if the sound continues, the other dog remains or if i figure they are watching someone else's dog during the day as well. i don't want any neighbor problems. i know if i call my landlord the first thing he will say is, "have you spoken to them?" so, with that in mind what do i say? "can you folks get some area rugs?"
  23. is it ever too late to set up a question like this as a poll?
