  1. I'll see your anime porn and raise you clown porn. ...yeah. He was an odd, odd character.
  2. Well, I don't discuss religion or politics in polite company (and this includes HAIF), ever. But I will discuss sex. Go figure.
  3. I admire your restraint, Niche. I've seen sex addiction described as a symptom or manifestation of both Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. So perhaps you're right... I think I tend to agree with wernicke, though, that it's not an addiction, per se -- it's a disorder, or at least a symptom of one.
  4. With poor David Duchovny all over the news these days due to his sex addiction, subsequent trip to rehab, and now his divorce, there seems to be a big divide over whether or not "sex addiction" is a real pathological disorder. It's not listed in the DSM, but there are still 12 Step groups devoted to it. Researchers don't seem to have a consensus either way. What do y'all think? Keep it clean, people...
  5. You can afford to buy furniture there?!?!?!?!
  6. I can't vouch for any of these places, but this is a good place to start: http://www.b4-u-eat.com/eat002.asp?Z=&...&N=&S=N http://www.b4-u-eat.com/eat002.asp?Z=&...&N=&S=N B4-U-Eat is an awesome tool, since it lets you choose the cuisine and the area of town that you're looking for. 7. Hear, hear! The game last night was awesome. "See-saw" was right; one goal after another. I was sad to see my man Pat let four get by, but you have to think about how tired they must have all been (how many games in the past two weeks?) and how the altitude up in Mexico City was affecting them. And even with all that, they still got four goals. Every time I see Kei Kamara approach the net, I think He's too nervous! He's not going to make it! And he's been proving me wrong every time lately. I'm really happy so far with him as an addition to the team. I think that all around, we have an outstanding team, and that's what it's all about. Sure, Ching and DeRo and Barrett and Onstad are all great players on their own merits, but the entire team just works so fantastically together, like a well-oiled machine. And Kinnear, of course, is an amazing manager. His leadership is unequalled in Houston sports right now. Love, love, love my boys in orange!!!
  8. There is simply not enough Erik Barajas love on this thread. He's like a clean, non-greasy, non-prostitute-dating version of Christiano Ronaldo. Rowr!!!
  9. Blue Roof program can't help with Spanish tile roofs like that... Only roofs that aren't rigid are eligible, since the tarps will be nailed/stapled to the existing roof.
  10. Look. The only thing that sucks around these parts is the fact that Brennan's burned down and injured some good people. You know I love y'all...
  11. Posted an article and additional information about the fundraisers that Catalan and Del Frisco's are hosting for the Koonce family at Houstonist: http://houstonist.com/2008/09/19/benefit_for_brennans.php Del Frisco's is being especially generous, with 100% of the proceeds from their fundraiser going directly to the Koonce benefit account.
  12. A fund has been set up to help cover the cost of the hospital bills for James Koonce, the sommelier, and his little girl, Katherine, who were both very badly burned in the fire. Like most restaurant industry personnel, the Koonce family doesn't have health insurance. James is currently in critical condition; Katherine's condition is unknown. Here's the information about donating to the fund: http://blog.cleverley.com/2008/09/17/benef...ans-fire-2.aspx Carl Walker, the GM, was also badly injured in the fire. Several area restaurants will be holding fundraisers in the coming weeks to support the entire Brennan's family. According to Cleverley, both Catalan and Del Frisco will be hosting events. I'll post details as soon as I hear from her. In better news, Shelby Hodge reported on Tuesday that Brennan's does plan to rebuild: http://blogs.chron.com/hurricanes/2008/09/...to_rebuild.html Keep the Brennan's folks in your prayers.
  13. That was my first thought, too! And then I realized the pictures were taken during an estate sale. I think they were just trying to get everything out on display to get it sold. ...can you imagine the fire hazard posed by a painting directly above a stove?
  14. ITA, especially the ones closer to the Beltway. That's a really tough location and the houses on that end aren't kept up at all. Anyone remember back in the day before the Beltway was built? Memorial Bend was an entirely different neighborhood back then...
  15. This cute little house built in 1957 is on Memorial Drive, right across from Town & Country Village. Unfortunate that it's on such a busy street and that the owners haven't taken care of it at all, since both of those things mean that it will probably be demolished soon. In fact, there's already a giant David Weekly sign in the front yard: "Build on your own lot!" Someone will, I'm sure, since that's the popular thing to do in Memorial Bend (this house's neighborhood). Here's the HAR link: http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y Here's the exterior: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12747mem.jpg A few interior shots: http://images-75.har.com/e1/mediadisplay/75/hr2169575-27.jpg http://images-75.har.com/e1/mediadisplay/75/hr2169575-20.jpg And here's the original 1958 ad for the house from the Chronicle: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12747mem_hcad.jpg Any takers? It's a great neighborhood...
  16. One more reason I stick to Southwest whenever humanly possible.
  17. QFT. My husband moved here from the UK six years ago, where he'd lived for the first 27 years of his life. He hated/still hates the UK healthcare system, both when he had private insurance (until he finished university, through his parents of course since it's so expensive) and when he had regular, state-run insurance. The way he tells it, there's no happy medium between the two -- which is what we have here. If you can afford private insurance in the UK, then you're treated like royalty to almost embarassing extremes. But if you can't, or simply don't want to pay an exorbitant amount of money for it, then you're stuck with the government-run system, which is appalling. Months-long -- sometimes years-long -- waiting lists for even simple procedures, the government arbitrarily deciding piddly stupid things like whether or not you'll be allowed to have general anaesthetic during dental surgery, a shortage of qualified doctors (the good ones move here!), etc. My husband is thrilled with our healthcare system and talks endlessly about how much better it is over here. Now, personally speaking, I'm in the for-profit healthcare business as a career. So you probably don't want my somewhat biased opinion on it.
  18. Drove by today and they're starting to put up the facing (siding? flashing? I have no idea about construction or building terms...) on the office building. It's the same beige, bland, boring stucco they put on the Giant Robot building. Looks like it will go stucco-glass-stucco-glass-stucco (yes, that's the technical term) all the way up. Boooooooooring. So, so tired of beige stucco.
  19. If you had to stare at its ill-planned design out of your office window every day, you'd start disliking it pretty quickly. I'm already sick of looking at it and they're not even finished building it yet. Then again, maybe I'll feel differently when they finish the whole site. Maybe...
  20. We had a Texas Roadhouse in Waco and -- along with Red Lobster and Olive Garden -- it was the nicest restaurant in town. ....yeah. I saw many a high school pre-prom dinner and scary "fancy date night" there. Never was a huge fan of the Roadhouse, but it's a better option than On The Border (we had one of those, too...blech).
  21. Wow. It's absolutely lovely inside (furnishings aside...). And immaculate!!! I'd love to see what's under that carpet. And I especially love the high ceilings. This is going to be a gem for someone, hopefully. And, yeah, if I had a spare $275k in my mattress I'd snap that baby up in a heartbeat, but...alas.
