I know this is off topic and not in the right thread but I cant find the thread for the 43 story Ziegler Cooper residential highrise for DeisoMoss to be built on Post Oak Blvd, anywhere. I haven't heard a thing about it in a year it seems.

Has anyone heard anything about this project and can anyone tell me where it is listed.

    Thanks!

that one? or did you mean that one you just posted on? haha just did the ziegler/post oak search

  2. I thought I read at one time that this development wanted to resemble Uptown Park with seating areas and shaded areas etc but that is definitely now what is happening so far. They are finishing the resurfacing of the entire lot now and they have not created any new "areas" from what i can tell...

and while they have lots of low profile plants in a holding area that they are soon to plant...and are planting some trees in portions of the lot, they have these weird ugly tall plant "trees" in the small medians on the Balboa up to Kenny & Ziggys end of the lot... they should have stuck with the usual trees they have elsewhere. Very strange and goofy looking in my opinion but we shall see.

anyway...this development definitely needs something more substantial in the middle of the lot to make this look as nice as Uptown Park. (whether that be a small building (like the small version of the galleria jewel box or the coffee shop at Uptown Park) or a small area with grass and shade and seating (like a mini courtyard version of the area at city center). (Something small enough to not take away from too much parking...as i know that will be the reasoning not to do something maybe)

    end of rant. haha

  3. i live across the street from the galleria and have in various buildings on my street for 28 years with no issues so far but yes, sometimes it can feel a little iffy so i am just cautious and alert with my surroundings...

anyway, today when i was going by, i noticed there are now new huge signs on every single drive in entrance that warns that no firearms are allowed on property in various languages...

    so there's that...

  4. finally renovations are about to begin this week!:

It’s been shuttered for two years, but look for the historic River Oaks Theatre to come roaring back.

The parent company of Houston-based Star Cinema Grill is preparing to begin a $5 million renovation. The 17,000 square foot theater is expected to reopen by the end of 2023 and when it does, there will be a full kitchen offering in-theatre dining plus wine and cocktails. Culinary Khancepts is handling the makeover. They’ve hired Gensler for design work and Star Commercial Construction Group as the builder.

Culinary Khancepts acquired the lease for the theater from Kimco, which owns the River Oaks Shopping Center. River Oaks Theatre, which was previously operated by Los Angeles-based Landmark Theatres, closed in March 2021 after failing to reach a deal with the former landlord.

The theater was built in 1939 by the now-defunct Interstate Theatre Corp.

  5. yikes! but wow @Luminareyou are smart and stuff! 🙃...it is so crazy that it has been sitting there as a shell for so long...and you are probably right in one of your theories! I hope they can get back to creating something awesome instead of dismantling it! 😩

anyway, in exciting news, The Houston Post has reported that in the meantime they will cover all window openings with giant spider webs and make it a Spirit Halloween Superstore July through October...

Blue October?!! I recall you mentioning them in other posts.  With John Nova Lomax passing away this week, I recall the tiff he used to have with them.......hopefully since resolved.

Time for Layne's to come for the Cane's crown in Montrose.

Yep! Justin is my best friend of 27 years! and oh wow...yeah his cover story of them in Houston Press was brutal haha...but the funnier part is, years later Justin agreed with some of what he said and laughed it off....

i think there was some sort of interaction of communication between them at one point but wow that was so long ago! May John RIP... I still have a stack of those Houston Press papers with the blue/black/white photo of Justin on the cover titled Little Boy Blue (*which they eventually removed that article online as the Press staff agreed it went a little too far...)!

  7. i don't think it will take away from big hotels as much as add to boutique hotels a traveler or even local guest that likes a smaller intimate hotel and prefers not to stay at the large or chain hotels. so, i doubt downtown or galleria will be effected much since most people want to be in the heart of it all and those guests will continue to stay in those areas. what this will get is more artsy, creative and specific clientele looking to stay in something unique...

now remember we are not talking about boutique hotels like Hotel Zaza that has 314 rooms but IF we are talking about hotels like Hotel St Cecilia, that only has 14 rooms up to this 71 room hotel, i don't think this will make much of an impact on downtown or galleria hotels

i think the whole point of this hotel is to fit within the area and be more like a Hotel St Cecilia or Hotel San Jose, both in Austin...and we don't really have anything like those here...if you ever go to Austin check them out. Hotel St Cecilia in particular is my favorite hotel in Austin...it really does have this cool, homey, but luxury vibe...it is just incredible.... and the first time i ever went was during sxsw and got to meet Jake Gyllenhaal who was staying there! made my whole sxsw haha
