since i drive AND ride my bike by here daily, i had to come back and look at your post of the renderings...as for now to me, it looks like such a mess with all the mismatched facades...but looking at the renderings, i like it haha!

we shall see...can't wait for them to be done with this.

(ps...i remember them saying they wanted to sort of emulate Uptown Park's aesthetic...that last picture especially seems to show that. i wonder how many of these little hang out areas they will be doing and how they will upgrade the landscaping...exciting stuff)

  4. i am really liking the aesthetic of the new redevelopment overall...the dark gray/almost black brick facade looks really nice in my opinion.

i am watching to see how in the heck they are going to redo the huge Kenny & Ziggy's signage as they have chipped away everything around it except the lettering on the rounded upper structure. but yeah, it's looking really nice and can't wait to see it finished.

  5. @hindeskymaybe i missed it but this building with it's upstairs and how it continues pretty far back and with an additional building behind it right (as shown in the above photo to the right of the front white main building)? is all this for Jeni's or other businesses as well? It almost looks like a private condo or apartment?

  6. The @uptownpark instagram just posted that Juiceland, Natuzzi, Sweetgreen (as previously mentioned) and Hi, skin will all be coming to Uptown Park this year...along with Lombardi Cucina and Polestar Cars of course.

This place is finally filling up nicely.

and ps...looks like Sweetgreen buildout is finished and the building/windows are uncovered...i saw people in there this morning working away at doing final touches etc so i am betting this opens in the next couple to few weeks

  7. i would like to know as well! i was hoping to see this fill up quicker than it has btw...the building has some incredible spaces and slowly but surely it seems various business are moving in...just cannot wait to see it full!

i do love and have been going to all of the various events that Post puts on... https://www.facebook.com/coffeeandcars/ is always a blast on the first Saturday of each month so make sure to check that out. But yes, i feel like this has reached maybe 1/2 of it's potential so hope to see this place grow (and expand if possible!).

and while i am commenting i guess i will throw in the obligatory: 713 Music Hall ( https://www.posthtx.com/music ) is the onsite venue as you know, and what better way to check it out then at my best friends band's 2 shows in a row they are having there in April! 🤪 (  https://www.blueoctober.com/ : April 7th is selling out fast, and April 8th is sold out! so get your tickets soon!)) See ya there!

Yelp is a joke.  There probably isn't a restaurant on the planet that doesn't have a fair share of terrible reviews on Yelp.

FWIW, Yelp reviews average out to 3.5 stars (the same as Tony's, one of Houston's most celebrated restaurants).

Open Table reviews (much more meaningful than Yelp reviews) give Ciel 4.2 stars (and Tony's 5 stars).

Can one find terrible reviews for Ciel?  Yes, but if one goes looking for them, one can find terrible reviews for any restaurant.  Overall, I'm not finding anything to justify a blanket statement that "reviews are terrible".

i mean duh........................! i wouldn't say Yelp is a joke but of course you can't trust all reviews on there...haha

of course even my favorite restaurants have bad reviews...i am just saying, when you look at the place you can tell it is already dated and just so tacky....some will love that and probably do... but  with the majority of reviews being bad i would say it's probably not great. I work in travel and when most people ask about hotels and say they look at tripadvisor i remind them they need to go with the general consensus...not just on one or two or even a handful of bad reviews. I am sorry you work there or know someone that does or have some vested interest in the place to make you SEEM defensive but look i don't want it to not succeed, i am just saying i bet it wont. BUT again, my favorite movies, bands, songs, hotels, restaurants all have bad review or aren't liked by someone...we will just wait to see what happens! i wish them luck!

  9. i hear you...Montrose played a huge part in all my young adult life and beyond...and yet, i understand why this is all happening, i just wish it wasn't. i miss the Montrose that had all the cool music and book stores in old homes and all the bars and shops...and i was lucky enough to be in studio at KPFT once when my best friends band Blue October was new and playing the Westheimer Street/Art Festival. They were being interviewed about the festival and their first cd that had just been released. I feel lucky to have lived my life during Montrose's heyday but thankful we still have Brasil, Empire Cafe and Agora and really that whole section of Westheimer to remind me of what Montrose once was! (at least!)

Yeah, I've noticed a general hostility towards bikes in Memorial Park (until now, only on the north side), and I can understand where it likely comes from. Bikes and moderately crowded pedestrian paths do not mix well. High-speed sport cyclists and well-used pedestrian paths even more so.

But the lack of decent bike access on the north side of Memorial Drive (or the land bridge) is definitely annoying especially since the south side "bike path" turns into a Houston-standard sidewalk after a while.

I think connecting Buffalo Bayou park to Memorial via high quality paths (including at street level approach Shepherd from the west) should be the top priority, but adding a north-side commuter path through the park should be next on the list. There is plenty of room to keep bikes and pedestrians separate.

yeah...and i am just on my cruiser/hybrid bike so i am not even one of the fast riders! thankfully i have a little bell and put it to good use as needed haha! and oh lord don't even get me started on the south little side sidewalk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't believe they haven't done anything with that!

  11. so yeah i rode my bike to meet a buddy coming from his home on his bike...

we get there and of course it's packed but so awesome....so we are just walking our bikes around...and about 40 minutes into walking around this guy, an event volunteer, stops us and goes..."HEY!!! HEY YOU! You cant have your bike in here!!!"...and we are like "what?!" again, we are walking our bikes and at this point trying to get to the prairie and land bridge...so we say "what are we supposed to do with the bikes" and he says "i don't know but you can't have them in here"...at this point a security guard must have overheard all this while we are walking away and i see him walk up to a different park volunteer and then walk over to us and say "hey we are glad you are here and want you to know there is a bike valet near the entrance." they were super nice btw...and so i walk back over to the original volunteer and say "hey just FYI, there is supposedly a bike valet and maybe you should have nicely told us that" and he says, "yeah i knew there was a bike valet area i just don't know where it is."

haha...oy. anyway, i did look more carefully at the signs that had all the rules and it did say that bikes were not permitted (just due to how crowded it was of course....) and i was super okay with that just thrown off by how rude that first guy was haha! BUT heck yeah this place is amazing...i love that we are so fortunate to have such an incredible place in our city that keeps getting better by the year. I am even more fortunate to be able to ride my bike here within 15 minutes with ease and enjoy any day i want! and i also agree, i would love to have a yearly anniversary event like this. It really does bring our city together! probably biking through there tonight after work! 🙂
