  1. I would wager that West Houston (including Katy) grew faster than those areas mentioned. Honestly, has any part of Houston besides west, sw, and inner Houston grown over the past decade? No doubt that our outer suburbs has, but I doubt it would be enough to draw the center of Houston away from the memorial area.
  2. Also your have all those retail stores in the shopping center next door to City Centre.
  3. I don't think you understand. Right now you are the guy on the left, Ron Livingston: Furthermore, I don't think anyone on here would disagree that this is an ugly building. It sucks this got built downtown, no doubt about it. So why keep b*tching? We already know it's a crap building. Are you Ron Livingston and.... You have every right to b*tch about crappy architecture on a quasi architecture forum (architecture is probably the 3rd most talked about subject on HAIF). But some people, like myself included, don't need to constantly b*tch about it and would rather move on. You can do whatever you want, but so can I.
  4. It is, but it doesn't mean we don't get sick of people complaining. It's throwing off my chi.
  5. I realize b*tching on the internet about things you really have no control over is in vogue right now, but come on people.
  6. No one is embracing mediocrity but what are you going to do about the building? Are you going to boycott ES? Spit on the architects? Commit acts of violence against those responsible for chopping the crown off the building? There is a big difference in "embracing" and accepting "mediocrity". . Perhaps you should look into an adage about lemons and lemonade.
  7. Never suggested we should be grateful but it was one of those things could be worse kind of situations. We got a crap looking building. Oh well. I care more about the building contributing visitors who will hopefully patronize and contribute money to Houston's downtown. Maybe I am the only one who cares about this building being successful instead of looking pretty.
  8. I'm with totheskies on this one. Hopefully these amenities will help guests spend more money in downtown Houston! They had me at the free cooked to order breakfast.
  9. Thanks for the update Jax. All three of downtown's new residents are looking good in that picture.
  10. Thanks for the update. I'm not sure if this is the Fannin or Main side, I'd guess Main; but anyways, it looks sleek.
  11. I would much rather this sprout up along the Main St. line near the Wheeler station to possibly kickstart something there but infill is infill. You (hopefully) have the University line going in near where this is could possibly be proposed so this project doesn't look too bad. Freeway access is good if you are going 59.
  12. I wouldn't mind having 4 or 5 of this sized building to occupy the surface parking lots in this part of downtown. I certainly would love taller buildings but infill is sweet too.
  13. On SSP they were saying it's topped out. Any truth to this?
  14. My experience of City Centre: Me and the girlfriend had a Thursday and Friday off work a few months ago and were looking for a place around Houston for a night away. Found that City Centre had good specials and decided to book there at Hotel Sorella. Very nice hotel and good a discount on it so immediately that was a plus. Walked over to Escalantes and had some decent Tex Mex and good ritas/drinks. It was a bit of a walk as I planned on not using my car once we got there. There area immediately surrounding the hotel was very walkable and busy for a Thursday all Thursday late afternoon and evening. Had drinks at the many bars near and in the hotel and ate of RA (sushi bar). It was definitely a great evening and you could spend a whole evening at City Centre. With that said, it was more upscale than I usually prefer but it was a good change from going to my usual places. It had one of the most diverse mixes of people I've encountered in Houston: racially, economically, and age.
  15. Heh. At least you can put forth the tiniest bit of effort and google City Centre and learn what they actually have before just assuming things and bashing it.
