  1. In her interview with Katie Couric to be shown tonight, Palin goes on about how Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and then Couric asked her if she could name ANY other Supreme Court case. She could not. Seriously? Not one? Yeah, I know Keith Olberman is way left but it is actually an interesting discussion:
  2. The Heights: Surfing I-10: Downtown: Day before: Day after: Allen Parkway: One from Rice area: North/South Streets' trees made it:
  3. Finally found a place with internet. (DNR on the corner of Chelsea and Montrose.) Made it through the storm. We lost power about 10:30pm and it came back on about 4 am that morning right before the eye wall hit. That is the only time we were without power. Don' ask me how. No cable and internet yet. Glad everyone seems okay and I will post my pics ASAP!
  4. In the Heights, not too bad here yet. Directv and power still going. Was really windy earlier (knocked over the wooden fence across form us) but it is actually kind of calm now. Lights are flickering as I write this...
  5. hehe..that is why I said take it for what it is worth. I know a lot of people don't like his judgment.
  6. Jim Cantore on WC was just reporting that he is certain it will hit Galveston. Just passing that on, take it for what it is worth. The worst part of what he said was talking about the boarding up of the windows and said "I am standing in front of...what are these things called...oh yeah, a strip mall..."
  7. lol..just as I was reading your post barracuda they started playing Barracuda by Heart on the convention floor.
  8. I was referring to her habeas corpus comment and her view on gay marriage, not just abortion.
  9. He just said we are blessed to live in a country with rights...did he not listen to Palin's speech last night and her views of rights?
  10. Fox news is reporting that Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is next to Russia...
  11. How in the heck do you pick a VP without every even meeting them fact to face? I hope he did his homework because the press sure is. They already are reporting she is being investigated for using her position as govener to try to get her sister's ex-husband fired from his state trooper job after he filed for divorce. She sure would fit in with the D.C. crowd.... This is just day 1, what else will they find? I will give her credit for using her first veto in office to veto a bill that would have allow the state of Alaska to deny benefits to the same-sex spouses of gov't employees on the advice of her atty general that it would be unconstitutional. Now only if that atty general would fill her in that a ban on abortion was found unconstitutional back in the 70s and that teaching creationism in school's is a legal mess waiting to happen.
  12. 1. I have to agree with other posters that the stripmall at Westheimer and Montrose has to go. This intersection is at the heart of Montrose and deserves something better. It isn't just the stripmall that makes it look bad. The gas station and the lame-excuse-even-for-a-Taco Cabanna really bring that corner down. The old Ming's building being empty doesn't help much either. (Man I miss that place...) 2. Burial of the utility lines. 3. I am on the fence about the townhomes. Depends on where they are and what they are replacing. At least in Montrose a lot of the townhomes are not as cookie cutter and can be pleasing to look at. 4. Since we have a lot of flexibility with this I would move all the bars and place them on Montrose. Kinda like Cedar Springs in Dallas. I really like the layout with everything all together. That being said though, Montrose has a lot more traffic than Cedar Springs does so that would be a mess. 5. Tear down the adult bookstore on Westhiemer and redo Numbers next to it. 6. Do something with the lot Wendy's is on in front of the Tremont. 7. Getting around: bke paths, new sidewalks and I liked somebody else's idea of a trolly. 8. Redo the Hollywood video in a historically safe way and open back up the front part as an entrance instead of letting it be home to a bum.
  13. I guess we are talking about different projects! I do know where Camden's new project is supposed to be and that was not what I was talking about. I was talking about a sign I saw here: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&...1&encType=1 It was a small parking on Travis in between the already built old Camden's parking garage and the Frank Kent excess parking lot. If you have time while you are driving around Midtown would you mind checking this site out too to see if it is anything?
  14. I saw this sign too but I thought it was across closer to the new Camden Super-whatever and across from the Cadillac dealership. Maybe we are talking about the same place. There has been a crew clearing the lot and doing site prep here for the past few weeks. I stopped and looked at the rendering on the sign and it looks a lot bigger than the lot. The lot was really really small so unless the place bought the dealerships excess parking across from Reef, the rendering is way off scale.
  15. Off topic but still on the Houston House, have they started the renovations that were talked about a few months ago in the Chron?
  16. One thing that hasn't been discussed yet is the Supreme Court. The 5 facts below have greatly influenced my vote! 1. Justice Ginsberg is 75 2. Justice Breyer is 69 3. Justice Souter is 68 4. Justice Stevens is 88 5. and everybody's favorite swing vote, Justice Kennedy is 72. McCain promises to keep up W's tradition on appointments and we have seen how well they are working out.
  17. That was amazing! Lezak is a stud, coming back from that far behind. Now if we could just get some commentators that are not such debbie downers before every event and are at least a little optimistic. It is Michael Phelps we are talking about, not the economy!
  18. I am over in the Memorial area this morning, started raining pretty heavily about an hour ago and continues. No wind.
  19. I second the wow! Very impressive. And you are right RR, that building on the right is where the current High Fashion parking lot is.
  20. We did it last year and it really was worth it. Some of these places you can't get a main meal for $35 let alone other courses with it. The only bad part is the wine bill starts to add up....
