  1. When I am replying using the 'full editor', the Insert link icon seems to be broken. The pop up window it gives is skewed off to the left and I can't seem to paste anything into its entry boxes. I can't even type into them.

Hope you can fix that, or tell me how to make it work, because I use this feature frequently. thanks.

  2. Holy crap, I think they hired a one-eyed retarded monkey to program the traffic lights around the town center. They are WAAAYY too long and skip cycles all the time. Traffic lights in Houston don't bother me like that and there's more traffic here, so I know it must be bad.

Well, if you think they are bad now, you should have seen them a few months ago. That was before they retimed the last eastbound light on 518 before going under the 288 underpass. It used to be on a 20 second timer, and that was just not long enough, causing the intersection of 518 and Business Center to get gridlocked all the time. That light is now on a 30 second timer now, which has improved the traffic flow alot.

I agree there is still room for improvement in the light timings.

  3. Are you familiar with the concept of Homeowners Associations (HOAs)?

Every MPC in Houston has one (at least all the ones that I know of). Residents living in MPCs must abide by the Covenants, Codes, and Regulations (CCRs) that the HOA has adopted. As was stated above, this can be things as simple as being forced to cut your grass when it gets too high. There are many pros and cons of living in a community with an HOA. For example, visit this next link and read some of the many comments:

    http://blogs.chron.com/pearland/2009/07/inside_pearland_wants_to_hear_1.html#comments

Also: HOAs charge residents an annual fee, which is usually several hundred dollars. Residents must pay this fee, or the HOA can take legal action.

Tip: When you get serious about buying into an MPC, have your sales agent or other rep obtain a copy of the HOA's CCRs. Read them first before deciding if that MPC is right for you. So many people don't do this, and later regret it.

  4. They opened one up in Pearland a couple of months ago. It has reasonable prices (when you factor in the free bread). It has a good family atmosphere. There is even a private room for large parties to rent. The food is decent, too.

When yours opens you should try it - at least once.

  5. Crazy they'd do that on a Saturday afternoon. What's your subdivision Clearman?

I think some thugs decided to use the distraction of the holiday to target some of our west side neighborhoods. Late Saturday night a couple of cars parked on a street in Southern Trails were burglarized. My theory is that the thugs used the sound of sporadic fireworks in the vicinity as a cover.

    I'll remember this next year!

  6. I'm a little confused by your price range. Low 100s isn't going to find you much, but if you are going into the low 200s then you have quite a bit more flexibility.

One example: I bought a new Ashton Woods home last year in the low 200s, and I'm very happy with it.

  7. First, just for clarity, City Park is not in Pearland. It lies north of the Pearland city limit.

I'd advise you to read this thread for an in-depth discussion of City Park. In addition to what you will read there, I checked last week and there are 4 registered sex offenders living there - 2 in City park itself and 2 in the adjacent apartment complex.

Bottom line: I'd recommend steering clear of it.

If you want to buy a home I'd suggest going a few miles further south, into Pearland, on its west side along the 288 corridor. There are many nice homes in Shadowcreek Ranch, Southern Trails (where I live), or other subdivisions. Our schools are ok and crime is much lower.

  8. I tell you what Pearland is missing ... a Spec's.

You'd need to change some laws first! :P Anyway, just drive up Pearland Parkway to the Sam Houston Tollway. There is a new specs right there at that new art-deco strip mall. It's about 100 feet north of the Pearland city limits, but for all practical purposes it is Pearland.

  9. One of the Pearland Police officers told me that folks in the Lakes of Highland Glen are organizing a Neighborhood Watch program. If any of you involved with this effort read this, feel free to contact me. We just got our NW program off the ground in Southern Trails a few months ago, and I'd be happy to pass on advice.

  10. I was just wondering what popular stores are we missing in pearland (west).......here are what i can think of :

    Electronics

    Frys

    Conns

    Kids

    Toysrus/Babiesrus

    Entertainment Centers like ChucknCheese

    Home

    GardenRidge

    WholeFoods

    Lowes

Furniture stores (we have only one furniture store)

    Sams/Costco

    ContainerStore

    Big Hospitals with all facilities

hmm what else? any idea if any of these stores are planned in pearland?

    I want a car wash! :(

I know, I know, quit whining....

  11. Walked in front of it [Mooyah] yesterday. Seems to be ready, should be opening pretty soon. There are still plenty of notices on the windows about liquor permit, etc; might be what is holding them.

Wendy and I went to the grand opening of Mooyah's last weekend. It will be our one and only visit there. The fries were good but the burgers were a tasteless, greasy mess. Considering the prices they are charging, I predict this place will go out of business within a year. Mooyah is too expensive to compete with the other fast-food burger/sandwhich places nearby, and if I'm going to pay more for a burger then I'm going to Red Robin instead, which is just across the street. At least at Red Robin I know I will get a tasty burger for my $$.

Just our opinion, others may like Mooyah.

  12. Looks like we're getting a Lowe's.......

    http://docs.newquest.com/brochures/kirbcross.pdf

I noticed the pdf brochure (above) has an updated date of April 3rd, 2009 on it. It shows the land just south of the site with the annotation of "Alvin ISD High School", and that wasn't announced until mid-March 2009. So if they are still updating this brochure then it seems logical that the project is still moving forward, albeit slowly.

If anybody can find out more on this, let me know. I'd love to know when they will break ground. The news release portion of the Lowe's website has never made mentioned this potential new store. :(

  13. If anyone knows where we can find a photo of one of these Blue Ridge/Republic waste trucks, please speak up. I want to print the image and keep it in my autos, for quick reference when I'm driving on 518 and 2234. It would be helpful to the city purse if we could help spot these trucks when they (inevitably) violate the terms and drive on those roads. I know I won't hesitate to call the cops if I see this. ^_^
