  1. I would second Morton's DT. I had their signature Chicago style ribeye the last time I was there and it was the best steak I have ever had (including trips to Ruths, Pappas, Vic and Anthony's, Fleming's and Shula's). I can't say too much about their sides, they were okay, but Flemings was better in that dept. But let's be honest, you go to the steakhouse for the meat. I can also say that the lighting and round booths were very nice for an anniversary dinner at the DT location.
  2. I have smelled that before...though not in the restaurant, it was very apparent outside on the patio...but I have never sat out there, just walked through. I wonder what it is that they don't seem to do anything about it.
  3. Love this place, good bbq, sides, banana pudding, iced tea, and atmosphere. The total package. And best of all, really, really cheap!
  4. BOO! We need some stuff on 290...the new Chuys seems to be doing very well. It seems like developers are under estimating the area on 290 outside of highway 6...Fairfield, Coles Crossing, Stonegate, Blackhorse, Bridgelands...it feels like a lot of grocery stores and small mom and pop strip mall restaurants for such a large, well off area...
  5. Sounds good! Kinda looks like BJ's but without the microbrewery. I love BJ's so hopefully I will like this place too, never been to the Dallas location. It is nice to see some good placing coming in there, I was worried a little... Also, good to finally see some activity in this forum!!!!
  6. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! My dad used to take me here since I was a kid...the waiteresses and cooks know him by name...this is really terrible news. Any reason given? I am scared to tell my Dad, it will ruin his day.
  7. Hmm...I have been to nearly every high school campus in the Cy-Fair district...I would not label any one of them truly scary.... Although, I went to Humble High School and regularly went to Nimitz, Aldine, Eisenhower, Westfield, and Spring for games...there were some issues at some of those campuses at times, but I was never scared, and Cy-Fair schools are not even close.
  8. Interesting, I couldn't find a map of Spillane on their website, but Goodson's website boundary map did include Cole's Crossing. I have a neighbor who has told me their child attends Spillane, so I guess my neighbor is a liar or an exception...anyway both are recognized. Hopefully we can get mapped to Spillane eventually, it is much closer than Goodson...
  9. The feeder pattern for Coles Crossing (just the other side of Telge from Longwood): Sampson Elementary - Exemplary Spillane Middle - Recognized Cy-Woods HS - Recognized Pretty impressive for this little pocket of the district...
  10. Drive by quite often on the way to the inlaws...nothing but farmland on the SE and NE corners, The gas station on the NW side has been kaput for a while, but there is a Jack in the Box next to it.
  11. Wow, a Mission Burrito, I may actually end up visiting this center after all...
  12. It does, but also looks at least a few months away from opening. It has a two storey structure with french doors opening onto a balcony overlooking the freeway on the second floor. I don't know if you will be able to dine up there, but it would be a cool place for a bar area.
  13. Man, a lot of hate being directed at Houston in those comments...maybe if they moved here and got a good high paying job they would change their tune. And I guarantee you all those people probably filled up their cars with gas this week, and turned their A/C down to 75. Red: Oil is finally dropping on waning demand, people are actually driving and using less!!! Any middle eastern posturing or tropical activity could send it right back up....
  14. So if outdoor malls are doing poorly nationally, they are certainly fine here, except for Vintage that is....I think talk radio is full of it, maybe less outdoor malls are being built because malls in general are slowing down and because of the tightened lending practices in today's economy, but I don't think it is due to a shift in consumer tastes.
  15. I can't name any other outdoor malls, so Houston is 2/2. The new outlet mall in Cypress is always packed...so maybe 3/3. What about La Centerra in Cinco? I wonder what report said they are doing poorly nationally.
  16. I thought you liked the asian salons???? Where are the women of Rock Creek to get their nails done???? Actually, they need a liquor store too, where else are they going to get their booze and lottery tickets? And a gas station, to fill up thier SUV's before they head out to run all their errands... It sucks that none of us want any more of these places, but they wouldn't build them if they didn't make money, you know? It would be nice if MUD's and HOA's had more control, but it seems that after the developer leaves the community to it's own devices, the land grab begins with the HOA powerless to stop it.
  17. I think many of the places we are talking about are already available in the area, except for the big furniture places, a lot of these retailers are already in Willowbrook or on 1960 near Champions Forest. If they have a store already, and with the economy where it is, why would they move from a place with low rent to a shoping center whose only major tenent is a grocery store and some lunch places. It's not like Willowbrook or Champions Forest are low traffic or anything. If, for example White House Black Market or Ann Taylor were to move from Champions Forest and Willowbrook, respectively, to Vintage, do you really think their sales would skyrocket? They wuold have the same basic customers they do now, so why pay more? They need to get a bookstore, furniture, and clothing retail, but they need to lower the rent to make it happen...
  18. That was a very positive article. Two to three years sounds very ambitious, but I can see why; I don't want to be anywhere near 290 while they rebuild it...Northwest mall does seem like an ideal area for a facility to serve the rail.
  19. They do the same think at Mardi Gras in N.O. Not a big deal...
  20. You are right... When I said rivers/bayous I was referring to the local ones (i.e. Trinity, San Jacinto, Buffalo)... And for what it is worth, it has always been my experience that the bay has a nice blue/green color more often than the Gulf.
  21. I think I had a post long ago in this thread regarding MMJ. I have to note that I am disappointed with their new album. I think "Z" was much stronger, mainly because I think "Evil Urges" sags a bit in the middle after a solid opening and before a solid closing suite of songs. Also, I might get flamed, but the new Coldplay ablum is actually pretty good, I liked "A Rush of Blood to the Head" but hated "XY". Well, "Viva la Vida" reminds me much more of the former and has a general love of/fun with music seeping from the songs. I find it very enjoyable and the lyrics tolerable to even provocative.
  22. He was speaking of the 249 corridor and along Cypress Creek were the Vintage resides, which is heavily wooded with both hardwood and pine.
  23. I am not an expert by any means, but the bacteria content has a lot to do with conditions and run-off. A coworker of mine went to Galveston and East Beach specifically on Father's Day and said the beach was the cleanest and the water quality the best she had seen it in Galveston. Water Temperature plays a major role, I also imagine the recent rains after a very dry month might have something to do with the runoff from the Bayous/Rivers.
