  1. Swamplot today is running the demo permit for the strip mall. I think I saw a tractor on the site today, too.
  2. My comment regards more the Camden Travis site that is currently used for parking at night than the superblock that just sits empty all day and night. With the influx of residents, I'm sure even more bars and clubs will follow into Midtown which will make parking even more of a nightmare.
  3. I'm talking about NW-W Midtown where the majority of restaurants and bars are.
  4. This also seems like it would be a good time to gobble up one of those other abandoned blocks and put up a multi level parking garage with street level retail just for nightlife traffic.
  5. So this and the McGowen superblock are fenced off now? It's hard to believe that Camden will go forward with both of these at the same time. I'm guessing the superblock stays fenced off for a long while. However, if Camden does in fact start construction on both of these soon that would put a huge dent in Midtown blight.
  6. Anybody have any news? It's a weird spot on Louisiana.
  7. Wow I guess this thing is serious. Very exciting for Midtown. The empty areas are being filled and that's fantastic.
  8. Reminds me of Boston. Very cool. And I'm impressed that they really didn't scale back the scope. This could be fantastic.
  9. New Camden apartment complex. There was an article in the Chronicle a few months back.
  10. I know the 24 HR sign has been up for a few weeks, but tonight when I drove by I saw the "Mix at Midtown" sign on the building. It looked pretty good, I must say. It also made me a little more optimistic about the project proposed across the street. I still think there needs to be more residential in this area to support all of the retail around this proposal. Camden Travis will help, but that doesn't even break ground until this fall (if everything is still on schedule). Is it possible that Crosspoint is planning some residential for the next phase of the Mix? It would be a smart business move, I think, but from what I know Crosspoint isn't in the residential space.
  11. When is this set to open? I will most likely get a membership here.
  12. Yeah I don't know why they even tried to put that in. No one will use it.
  13. I think a Starbucks, Ice Cream place, restaurant, and wine bar would all do well. I think once Camden Travis is up in a couple of years this area will get the same sort of foot traffic that Post Midtown Square gets.
  14. I saw a Variance Request sign in front of El Patio and the Red Door. I'm guessing this is for the building next door. Any news we don't know about?
  15. Yeah I don't really know what this means, but I would definitely like to hear more. Nothing else suggested has really made sense. It would be nice if this somehow created a small media/entertainment economy piece of Houston. Once again, I still don't really know what or how this soundstage would work. But that's why I would like it.
  16. Like I said, I'm not going to complain about this. The only things that bother me are that it isn't residential and that it looks boring compared to Main Place (which isn't really fair since Main Place looks fantastic).
  17. Westchase has similar buildings in the 20-30 story range. Same with Greenspoint. It just looks like a suburban office building - boxy glass.
  18. These are pretty much my thoughts. This looks like a bland Westchase tower thrown into a prime block in a great downtown location. I don't think we are really in a position to complain about filling in surface lots downtown with 30+ story towers, but I'm not that excited about this.
  19. This will fill a huge whole in Main Street. Once again, I hope this has street level retail. Still no confirmation if Main Place does. However, I must admit that I was hoping this block would be filled by a residential tower ever since the Shamrock plans were released.
  20. I also work with consultants and it really is tough to do anything downtown. Especially the east side. We rotate between the only 3-4 restaurants down there everyday for lunch or dinner. It gets old. They stay out in Uptown and like the area a lot. Needless to say, I'm very excited for the Pavilions to open.
  21. I would like to keep Main more traditional. It has a trolley down the middle of it, brick road, classic architecture, and history. We don't need to make it into Houston's version of Times Square. If we need to have TVs (which is still lame), put them down the Pavilions walkway or something. Let Main be Main.
  22. Installing big screens next to a bland office building, an empty building used for parking, and a Courtyard by Marriott doesn't seem like a good idea.
  23. I took some guys from Dallas and Chicago to The Grove to eat lunch today. The park was packed with people playing frisbee, sitting on the benches, kids playing, etc. The guys I was with were very impressed with the restaurant and the park. They were telling me how they have a completely different image of Houston now. Didn't even feel like my home town.
