  1. The parking lot looks as if it was roped off. Same with the 6 HC lot.
  2. For the project going up already, the renderings on Swamplot show a "Book Connection" on the third floor of this building...which I guess would be on top of the 24 HR Fitness. I haven't heard any details of a bookstore, but that would be great if a large bookstore such as Barnes & Noble or Borders was included in this.
  3. I think the fact that it will be even more congested than it is now will force people to use the rail after a transfer from a P&R, so if anything I guess it will encourage more people to be vocal about commuter rail to Cypress, Sugarland, Galveston, etc., which is something the city desperately needs. I know that if in 2011 we have all of this stuff in Uptown, I will avoid driving there at all costs.
  4. Building an 80 story tower at the corner of Richmond and Post Oak does sound pretty dumb just thinking about the traffic. I'm an advocate of the rail, but until the network is really extended throughout the metro, it will just make that area even worse (assuming this thing gets built).
  5. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. I really wish Houston would use this as a way to embrace a true landmark in the city. Turning it into a hotel is cheap and fake. Letting it sit there is also a waste. Besides the San Jacinto Monument, which is far away from the core, there is nothing historic this city has to show for. I'm not going to try and compare this to the Alamo, but it sure is a lot closer than anything else we have.
  6. I like the idea but I think it would kill the Texans tailgate scene.
  7. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5473590.html The replies are hilarious, too.
  8. I would be extremely impressed if Discovery Green had every lot surrounding it full within the next 7 years...or even decade. This is exciting. Maybe a Marriott? The only one downtown I can think of is the Courtyard by Marriott, which isn't a very large presence in downtown.
  9. Looks like the little plot of this land has some activity going on. Is it just the equipment being used for the building under construction across the street?
  10. I often think about how bad the Chronicle is. Houston is the center of the energy industry and has the largest medical center in the world. Why is the Business section 4 pages long with only 3 articles? Tourism doesn't drive this economy, this city is a business city. The paper should be a significant business journal for the rest of the country....just based on the energy industry and medical activity that happens everyday here. Yet, I struggle to read one article that is interesting or thought provoking at all in the business section.
  11. Yeah this is nice, and it would be cool to have two tall skylines squeezing Memorial Park, River Oaks, etc., but I would much rather see this kind of development downtown. Uptown just doesn't really do anything for me. I'm not complaining, though.
  12. Why Uptown? I mean, don't get me wrong, this sounds exciting, but where is this land they could put it? Post Oak is going to be pretty much full once Blvd Place and the Titan are up. Woodway, San Felipe, and Memorial are all crowded as well. The only place I can think of that can handle what ENG is describing is around Richmond...I think. Even then, I don't know. I guess the Uptown skyline could start expanding west....but that area is pretty blah. Like most people I'm sure, I would rather see/hear about these things happening downtown. And just slightly off topic, the amount of projects proposed or in early development are really looking amazing for the city. The next decade should be exciting, especially if something like this happens.
  13. I'm guessing the Chron messed up. How many times just in the past year have they put the location for something wrong? It's almost like there's a better chance the land they bought is not there because that's where the Chron put it on the map.
  14. So out of this, Regent Square, and Blvd Place, what are the odds all three of these actually get built? Call me a pessimist, but I am still not sold on it all happening. I would be thrilled if 2 actually got done.
  15. For this park to be successful it has to have something to attract visitors. If it was just a bunch of open green space then it would be bumsville. If you want open space try Hermann Park or Memorial Park. They are less than 15 minutes away.
  16. It would be neat if they figured out a way to include the rail into the stadium, with one of the stops being there. And then have Capitol and Rusk tunnel under neath. Not likely, though.
  17. This place is open now. The food wasn't that great, but they did a good job with the interior, the service was good, and it was affordable. Not bad, but not something I would make my way to go to. It will be a nice place to grab a quick bite before a ballgame. Try it out.
  18. Reserve101.com The website needs some work. It's a scotch and martini bar. Hopefully will do well with the Four Seasons and Hilton right there.
  19. Nice article in today's Chron about Del Grande and The Grove. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/main/5426221.html
  20. Yeah that's probably the reality of it. Maybe just keep it up half the year to attract people and run it as a non-profit. I dunno. I just think the hotel idea would be really tacky.
  21. Personally, I think the hotel sounds kind of cheesy. And if done, it would most likely be unimpressive unless they really poured a ton of money into it....which sounds uncertain. Here's what I would do with the dome. Put some money into it to restore it to make it look back in it's heyday. Hire a really good historical tourism team to dress up the dome and make it one big exhibit. Not only on the Astros, Oilers, etc., but include everything that happened in the dome. That building really does have a lot of history....up to Katrina a couple of years ago. It will be Houston's Colosseum, but on an obviously smaller scale. That way some money can be made, and they aren't trying to make it into something it isn't.
  22. I'm having trouble locating this block. The article makes it sound like it is the lot directly south of the Great Southwest building, but it says it is currently used for parking for Vic & Anthony's, which makes it sound like the lot directly south of Vic & Anthony's.
