  1. They put down a mat and some gravel today. Looks like we were right on the parking lot. Oh well, at least this means Camden Travis is on schedule.
  2. Wow - what? Looks like a residential high rise. And what is that all glass building on the right (where I guess the current High Fashion parking lot currently is)? I wonder if they actually have anything in the works with Barnes and Noble. This would be absolutely huge for Midtown.
  3. Does anyone know what is happening a few blocks to the north of this? It's a small peice of land on the corner right on San Jac. I have seen some dirt being moved around there in the last week or so.
  4. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories.../28/story7.html Apparently started construction this month. This area will look a lot different in 5 years with Westcreek/Oaks District or whatever ends up getting built. - 16 stories - 96 units - Spring 2010 completion - 25% needed to be presold to start construction, 28 are presold so they reached that milestone
  5. I think they just moved the sign to be inside of the fence they put up on half of the super block. Although, I don't understand because the sign along Main is still outside of the fence. A big part of me thinks that they are putting up the trailer and will use the block for parking once they break ground across the street for Camden Travis.
  6. Didn't Fingers purchase two blocks of land originally for two towers by the park?
  7. This is exactly right. Right now, the Pavilions will only be a lunch spot for the business crowd and an entertainment spot in the evening for the venues downtown. There isn't a market downtown to support retail, especially high end retail, right now. People who will shop at these places are either residents or tourists. The majority of visitors downtown are there on business, so they aren't going to shop during the day. The convention visitors don't have time to shop, either. There isn't a tourist scene in downtown Houston right now. DT still has ways to go to establish a retail market. The fact that this much progress has been made for entertainment is impressive, I think. Retail will come, but I feel like a significant presence DT is still 5-10 years away. Also, as far as design goes, I think it's fine. It doesn't blow me out of the water, but it gets the job done. I have been more than satisfied with the designs of Disco Green, One Park Place, Discovery Tower, and Main Place. I think I will live with the Pavilions being mediocre. How many mixed use entertainment centers have won architecture awards, anyways? With these things, the success of the project is more important than being a landmark to the eye.
  8. Which line is the next to break ground? The Northline? Or are they waiting for federal approval of funds to start the next?
  9. The latest news said land clearing in September and construction in October. So cross your fingers for groundbreaking to actually happen before year end.
  10. I noticed on the rail today that the demolition is complete. Hopefully we will continue to see progress.
  11. I think one area of attraction people are missing are the large business groups. I think more companies will be more likely to hold overnight training sessions, regional/national meetings, conferences, etc. in Houston if they are located downtown because now there will be more to do for an overnight event. Not a huge target, but just another piece of the pie.
  12. Nevermind, just read the brochure. 2 Stories, 16,169 ft of rentable retail space at street and mezzanine level including a 4 star destination restaurant. I'm guessing the restaurant will be on that overhang thing, which will probably provide an excellent view of the park. This is really an exciting building.
  13. I thought there was going to be a restaurant at ground floor.
  14. Agreed. Although, if this development is successful, the block directly east would make a perfect location for a new hotel. That would mean another surface lot (or at least 3/4 of one with Josephine's on there) would be gone...so in the long run it could turn out for the better.
  15. The office component is the least of my worries. The retail/restaurant space is more crucial to this project's success. And with that, the proximity to the Houston Center (and the general despise for the Park Shops), Main St., South Texas Law, Minute Maid, Toyota, the park, and GRB....are all keeping me optimistic. I work on the east side of downtown, and the shortage of restaurants is really frustrating. You can only eat at Longhorn Cafe, Massa's, and Treebeards so much. The local economy is doing fine, and shows no sign of slowing down. This 11 story office space will be filled in time.
  16. That auto parts store is down. It looks like there's still equipment out there and more of the shopping center to demo, though.
  17. I'm pretty pumped to see the traffic the ice skating rink brings during the winter. Something about ice skating downtown in the park gets me excited like a little kid. Just look at the Galleria rink around Christmas time. Sure a lot of those people are there for shopping, but I can definitely see the rink at DG drawing a pretty big crowd.
  18. Don't forget a skybridge so that the Longhorns can cross the street without going outside in the awful sunshine.
  19. There is something else happening at Binz and Crawford. I drove by it yesterday and there was a sign up for a new office building with a leasing number. They had the rendering on the sign and it looked to be 15-25 stories. Anybody have anything on this?
