  1. Interesting study, and great for discussion, but I don't see anything like this happening here for another decade. Just look at all the roadblocks the light rail lines have to go through.
  2. There is something else happening at Binz and Crawford. I drove by it yesterday and there was a sign up for a new office building with a leasing number. They had the rendering on the sign and it looked to be 15-25 stories. Anybody have anything on this?
  3. Swamplot today is running the demo permit for the strip mall. I think I saw a tractor on the site today, too.
  4. Yeah I wish Houston had a "what's going on this weekend" website like NYC, Chicago, DC, etc. have.
  5. My comment regards more the Camden Travis site that is currently used for parking at night than the superblock that just sits empty all day and night. With the influx of residents, I'm sure even more bars and clubs will follow into Midtown which will make parking even more of a nightmare.
  6. I'm talking about NW-W Midtown where the majority of restaurants and bars are.
  7. This also seems like it would be a good time to gobble up one of those other abandoned blocks and put up a multi level parking garage with street level retail just for nightlife traffic.
  8. So this and the McGowen superblock are fenced off now? It's hard to believe that Camden will go forward with both of these at the same time. I'm guessing the superblock stays fenced off for a long while. However, if Camden does in fact start construction on both of these soon that would put a huge dent in Midtown blight.
  9. Where all can you play slow pitch softball around here? I know about Sports Plex down on S Main, but are there any places in the city?
  10. Anybody have any news? It's a weird spot on Louisiana.
  11. I like going out in Houston, but it's definitely not a party city. I don't know if it's a city decision or a state decision, but I would love it if they moved last call back to 3 am. I just got back from Nashville where the bars close at 3 am, and that extra hour makes all the difference in the world. DC is the same way. Every time I got to those cities it's a party. NYC is the same way, but it takes it even farther with 4 am last call. I don't see Houston ever doing this just because the city doesn't really have a solid tourist industry. The city is much more business and family focused. That's fine, but it would make for a more well rounded city, in my opinion.
  12. Wow I guess this thing is serious. Very exciting for Midtown. The empty areas are being filled and that's fantastic.
  13. Reminds me of Boston. Very cool. And I'm impressed that they really didn't scale back the scope. This could be fantastic.
  14. I think it is incredible the amount of apartment complexes that are under construction all over the city. For every neighborhood inside the loop there is at least one complex under construction. In Upper Kirby there are 3 off of the top of my head. Outside the loop there are quite a few as well. I was out by the Westchase/Energy Corridor today and noticed 2 large complexes in each district. This is a good thing for Houston in my opinion. There are plenty of ownership options so this will provide more living options for people who can't or don't choose to own. It's also interesting to look at this from an economic standpoint. The Houston economy is chugging along, driving the demand for these units to be built, but at the same point the national mortgage crisis is also forcing people to choose to rent instead of own. Interesting, and somewhat exciting I suppose.
  15. New Camden apartment complex. There was an article in the Chronicle a few months back.
  16. I know the 24 HR sign has been up for a few weeks, but tonight when I drove by I saw the "Mix at Midtown" sign on the building. It looked pretty good, I must say. It also made me a little more optimistic about the project proposed across the street. I still think there needs to be more residential in this area to support all of the retail around this proposal. Camden Travis will help, but that doesn't even break ground until this fall (if everything is still on schedule). Is it possible that Crosspoint is planning some residential for the next phase of the Mix? It would be a smart business move, I think, but from what I know Crosspoint isn't in the residential space.
  17. My buddies and I are looking to rent and found a place on the east side of Main in Midtown. The area still seems kind of shady. Are there still crime problems in this area? Obviously there are crime problems everywhere, but I would guess the west side of Midtown is much better.
  18. When is this set to open? I will most likely get a membership here.
  19. Yeah I don't know why they even tried to put that in. No one will use it.
  20. I think a Starbucks, Ice Cream place, restaurant, and wine bar would all do well. I think once Camden Travis is up in a couple of years this area will get the same sort of foot traffic that Post Midtown Square gets.
