  1. I think it should go back to it's past glory and be a fighting Arena. I'm sure they could get George Foreman to back the idea, since he use to puch for events there. Still can promote college and highschool games as well as circus and fairs and bullfighting and non-rodeo riding events. Get a minor league baseball team in there. So much can be done with it. Can still host concerts.
  2. What they can do is do like they did in Peoples town here in Atlanta near the Baseball stadium is for the city to help re-vitalize it and assume some of tax base so therefore those residents that are already there can feel only the positive affects and then the new residents that come in pay to live in the revitalized area and the old residents help puch out undesirables which pushes up the value of the land and makes it possible for long time residents to keep there property and the renters are locked into there basic rates. In this area they help clean up there neigborhood and had a deal with the City Council as well as the landlords that rent would not go up on long time renters. That's just my thinking.
  3. That is not true, in other countries especially the OPEC nations we are called the Energy Capital of the world and the Oil capital, in fact Houston took 2 oil companies from Tulsa as well as having many on shore and off shore oil wells. Oil begats energy.
  4. According to what World Class, tier 1 and major international city then that is houston. When it comes to consulates/ embassy's, Houston comes in third behind New York City and D.C, with houston now having over 90. We are known through out the world as the Oil capital of the world, wich encompasses oil, gas, fossil fuel which powers every type of power that is needed. Where most of the OPEC nations are there is a representative from Houston there. The 1st city ever spoken outside of Earth and on another body was Houston as in "Houston the Eagle has landed. Most cities on this planet have a couple of medical offices in the same place, we have a hold region that is called the largest medical complex in the world (TMC) and guess what we still have medical complexes all over in other areas, memorial city, Northwest and Woodlands, just to name a few. We have worldclass Convention areas, with two of them being in the top 10, Reliant and GRB. When it comes to impact internationally we are number three, behind only New York and D.C ( because it's the Capital) with SF,LA, and Boston following behind. We have the largest port in the U.S in both import and export. Ethnicity rankning is already there with South of the border appeal, russian, the African west coast, South African, Arab as well as Euro and Canadian. Plus I can go on and on. WE HAVE NASA. I will come with the site later but it is said that our port along with the one in Galveston produces more money than any place else outside of the Federal reserve. When it comes to World Class, Houston is right there with New York and Chicago Us and D.C. and we are in front of SF, Mia,Boston, Sea, and LA. With Atl and Dal behind them. Oh yeah not hoasting the Olympics don't make you international, look at New York, Chicago and D.C. It does help though cause ATL Blew up after they hosted the Olympics.
  5. Ooops, I meant to say that Houston has quite a few in the City but I noticed that you said downtown and I just wanted to know the source.
  6. How do you know that Houston (CITY) is lower than those two. Houston has a lot of Rooms in the City. I'm not sure about the Metro but we rank pretty high when it comes to city. Do you have a source that ranks this?
  7. What Houston needs to do is 1st, it would be nice for us to have commuter rail go along these no sense HOV lanes. Especially sense Houston is so big, commuter rail would go good and develop our infastructure instead of concentrating on this Grand Parkway. 2) Do like Atlanta did with it's 166 it was suppose to go through the city of Atlanta like a Spur, suppose to have been a lot longer but they found that it was gonna cost a lot more and the powers in Atlanta wanted more people to live either downtown or out the city, so that shopped it in half. Also according to some stats I have seen with our current growth and no annexation, Houston will past Chicago to become the Third largest City and move up to become the 7th largest metro. This is not including the growth spirt of Las Vegas, if so then Las Vegas would become 3rd largest.
  8. That's my very point. All I want to see is some dirt sheveled and some cranes, bulldozers or something move in.
  9. Therefore they are saying that the people have signed on the dotted line and there mortgage company has cut the Owners of Shamrock a check. Or are you saying that people have put down money to have a Unit held for them and when it is built then the mortgagecompany or ther own deep pockets will put down the full amount. That's the differnce in bought and holding.
  10. I think the rendering is of one building, just 2 views. There is one building here and then there is going to be another one built at the other location.
  11. This is getting old, first it was middle August now Ocober. If they are going to build then at least have a ground breaking ceremony. If not then drop the project and let someone who is going to build get a chance with this. It shouldn't be that hard to start. It can't be because of Sales, because you never know if a unit is sold until they have signed on the dotted line and inspections have been done. You can't inspect what ain't there. So I wonder what the hold up is, it can't be because of lack of intrest or problems with the previous owner of the spot or the city and county. On the responses make sure it's someone credible who says the reason why we pushed it back is because of.... Nothing crasy like well sells are down or whatever, yu can't totally sell a unit until it's completed anyway.
  12. I saw in one of the buisness journals about IBM building there 3rd cednter in the world right here in Houston. Any word on this project or the NASA Center as well as the New Bio-tech campus supposidly starting here in H-town.
  13. I truley believe that San Antonio will stay number two because of those very reasons, when people move to San Antonio, they move to San Antonio, when people move to Dallas, they move to Irving, Arlington, Fort Worth and the many cities around it. Until the merger that Urban Geographers think will happened between Austin and San Antonio, it will always be a non-metro. San Antonio is amoung the 10 largest cities in America but has one of the smallest markets.
  14. As long as we don't get Waterways like the LA river. That would be good for the enviroment but bad for the kids.
  15. Don't forget the Lee P. use to be the Police Chief and has always had Houstons best intrest in mind. He wanted to do more to stop flooding but the enviromentelist and some of those upity council people would listen to him until it was too late (Allison). He was the man. He brought change and new things to Houston. Rail was started by Brown and White just happened to be in cause Brown couldn't run again and the rail was being built. The City became more of a Worldcity Power because of Brown, even Bushes undoing in the oil market couldn't bring Lee or the City down. I wonder if they are going to build an expansion to City Hall like they did here in Atlanta.
  16. How does it look going over the Channel? I wish some development would go out towards Prairie View though besides the Freeway that only brought a couple of retails.
  17. I use to work on the 71st floor of Chase and on a low foggy morning, all you could see was the Wells Fargo tower, BOA and the then Transco Tower and Sanfelipe in a distance. That was pure beauty. Wells Fargo has a pretty cool design on top also. $$$$$$$
  18. It also would be nice if the Arena would hold a basketball championship every year like the Big 12. Like Atlanta holds the SEC championship, even though there isn't an SEC team in Atlanta. Or a big game. I wonder when we are going to get the final four?
