  1. I'm surprised there's not more of that, given the way some people act as if an online drawing is the Holy Grail.
  2. Am I the only one who thinks 'Southpointe' could be a prank? One could make the point that those renderings are grandiose to the point of ridiculous for that piece of land.
  3. Lol, they certainly are. I know that some folks aren't happy with Ross because it's too downmarket. God forbid it would attract shoppers from the north side of Harrisburg.
  4. I saw my Otis Dude again this morning, and so we chit chat and I ask him how the elevators are working today and he grins and says just fine. Can tell he's getting a kick out of how many people who never talk to him are talking to him now. He also laughed and said 'you know, I just tell 'em that the elevators are doing what they're designed to do in the event of a malfunction, because if they weren't, those people would be dead. ' I guess the compound fractures don't sound so bad after all.
  5. A buddy of mine here at the office goes to the Chicago Beef place for lunch take out and raves about it. I'm not a fan of 'chicago beef'. It tastes to me like overcooked roast beef soaked in Italian dressing. They have burgers and cheesesteaks and gyros, too. On Cavalcade and Airline, I think.
  6. Hmm. I haven't been since before Thanksgiving. Didn't even know they were closed. Just thought of something else. A lot of people don't agree, but I've always liked Spanish Flowers for cheap texmex plates. They've got some of the best salsa in town.
  7. Vietnam Restaurant on 19th near Shepherd. Good vermicelli bowls, inexpensive.
  8. Otis man didn't have much to allow, but confirmed what was in the Chron story today about last month's malfunction --the gross part about compound fractures and it was a messy scene. He didn't have any firsthand accounts from this week. He appeared to hold the offending non-Otis elevator company in very low regard.
  9. I read that story earlier this morning and immediately wondered if it was in your building again. Have you noticed people on lower floors taking stairs? We have an on-site Otis guy in my building whom I kind of know from the gym. I'm going to ask him what the deal is. I'm guessing elevator dudes in high rises have all kinds of stories. I don't think too much about fires and elevator mishaps, but I sure didn't have any heartbreak over moving from 38 down to 9.
  10. I don't understand why the new Gables West Ave retirement community is scheduling activities. Isn't the whole point that they're to enjoy the short pedestrian- friendly walk to amenities like the wine bar, martini bar, gastropub and gourmet pizza bar?
  11. Had to Google it since I've never heard of "Rainforest Cafe" before this thread. I suspected super cheesy theme experience, but now I'm thinking this is the most bizarre restaurant concept I've ever heard of. The very idea that a child-free adult would set foot in a place like this is creepy to me. Except I guess Father Ted. It sounded suspiciously like the handiwork of Tilman Fertitta, and lo, I was not disappointed.
  12. Just a general question for everyone. What's more upsetting? Delayed opening of Lucky Strike, lack of street level video screens, or that the interior looks like a high school courtyard?
  13. How condescending. I understand perfectly well 'how things work'. So does Sev. But a number of us on the HAIF believe in historic preservation because it assumes that there is value in the cultural continuity of architecture, and that communities are not always best served by everything being for sale to the highest bidder. It's fine to not agree with that, but there's no need to be rude. Yes, ultimately everything does have a price. Unfortunately, there are a lot fewer funds in the public and non-profit sectors to preserve very much. At least here in Houston.
  14. I completely disagree. Moderators serve as traffic control and to see that members abide the terms and conditions of use. None of which precludes them from expressing partisan or biased viewpoints.
  15. There's not a large mass-going community living in downtown, and they built a cathedral there.
  16. "newest and most innovated" "latest photo's" Good grief, at least run the grammar check before posting to your business website. Sorry. Pet peeve.
  17. The Tolerance Bridge needs a theme song. Feel free to jump in. I'm still muddling through, but Queen really does to come to the top of the list. Killer Queen. Definitely one of the most underused songs, and so appropriate for diversity and tolerance and such. Plus, would accomodate bridge suicides nicely.
  18. I really like the tiles you did for the kitchen backsplash. Very nice.
  19. Surely everyone is aware that there is a major national department store downtown. Right? I shop at that Macy's; it's convenient for me. Not often, but that's because I'm not much of a department store shopper.
  20. I hear there's a new mall with a baseball cap store in it.
  21. That parking garage is open and certainly getting used. I had to do some shopping there and ended up in the garage. That center is madness during the holidays. One big gripe of mine is that the La Griglia valets need to use the garage and stop clogging up the street front parking.
