  1. Woah there buddy! Laura was great! It was the city coucil, silly city managers, and bumbling ex police cheif that made her job difficult. Every time she tried to propose something former councilman Alcorn would claim that she forgot south Dallas and would call her a racist, then the rest of the south Dallas coucilmembers would join in. She didn't drop the ball with the Cowboy's stadium, Dallas County did. Dallas County has been notorious for dropping balls on serious items. For instance, Texas Motor Speedway was going to be constructed along 1-20 and Lancaster Rd, but the county wanted to play hard ball instead. Same thing with the stadium. They finally got their act together on the logistics hub that's going in the s.w. Dallas county. It's reportedly going to be the largest industrial development in the country. It inludes enlarging the Lancaster Municiple Airport and connecting to the U.P. railroad intermodal along Belt Line and 1-45. I'm curious to see how Leppart is going to do the job. Laura was definately a liberal who cared about the people of Dallas (even though some will argue) and Leppert is a conservative. Dallas has been a conservative city (for Texas) for many, many years. That's why Ms. Connally turned to JFK and said (See Jack, Dallas does love you!). JKF thought Dallas was a conservative town. The ironic thing is that Nelly Connally said that within a minute of him being assassinated.
  2. I've heard about it before, and I hope it works out. It's be a great attraction to add to N. Fort Worth, other than Texas Motor Speedway and Alliance Airport. Something year around, finally!
  3. Yes, they had a love child, a girl, and I believe that she didn't find out that Gable was her father until years later. Possibly after his death?
  4. I can't read the sign. So, what does this mean? It's going to be torn down, or rehabed?
  5. We've got enough people here to work there, own it, and keep it profitable! Not to mention their families, friends, etc.
  6. Before Lombard, he was HEAVILY involved with Joan Crawford off and on before he met Lobard, and even had another breif affair with Joan while he was married to Lombard! On an aquantances website, www.joancrawfordbest.com, there is a picture of Joan, Ria, Gable, and a fourth person that's name escapes me. In some weird twist of fate, gable had slept with JOan, Ria, the fourth persson. In another picture from the same night, Gable is lighting Joan's cigarette as she looks on at Ria! I'll ask around on the J.C. board to see where those pictures are located.
  7. She's probably calling the liqour store as we speak, using Joan Crawford's voice!
  8. Hey! Who are you calling a HAIFER! Just kidding! Thanks for making me feel a little better.
  9. If anybody has quoted me about how and where to park and where the floor plans are, please edit your posts and delete what I said. I'm sorry I caused this trouble.
  10. Prisclynn, here's a link to a pdf article on the house........ http://www.houseandhomeonline.com/home/doc...pp_0207_hou.pdf
  11. Has anybody heard of her, or have any info on her house? She was Clark Gable's second (and much older) wife. She apparantly lived in the Montrose area, and had a second home built for Clark built in the same area. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Thanks! John
  12. I'm lost! On one side of that map, I see U.S. 80, then on the right hand side, I see U.S. 90. I thought U.S. 80 ran through Abilene, Dallas, Shreveport, etc? The old Bankhead Highway. Funny thing is that travelling between Weatherford and Albany on old U.S. 80, there are little abandoned bridges across dry creeks, abandoned alignments, and lots of old signs that say "Bankhead Highway" Those are the only highlight of my trips between FTW and Stamford.
  13. http://www.panchosmexicanbuffet.com/ I can only eat there right when they open, because that's when it's fresh, and not been sitting out. Their headquarter's isn't too far from my house, but I had no idea that they've been in business for so long. I absolutely love their flautas. For a cheap, hot meal, you can't beat Pancho's, unless it's the $1 menu at Mickey D's.
  14. In the postcard, you can't see windows. However, on the right hand side of the pic (before you get to the car) there is some sort of railing that could be possibly going around a light well. The railing could possibly be blocking off a set of stairs that lead to the basement.
  15. That's awesome! Thanks for the pictures and story. I wonder what they'll do with the stuff that was found in the basement?
  16. He has an advertising museum! http://pollackmuseum.com/ Thosse pictures of him have CLASS written all over them!
  17. Have you all been to this site? http://texashideout.tripod.com/bc.htm I'd scan back up to see if any of you posted that link, but I HATE seing those death pictures. Makes me ill! I don't believe that Bonnie was in East Texas any or doing too much else in the 1920's. In addition, she was married before and while estranged from her first husband, met Clyde. When she met Clyde, se was working at a cafe on Swiss Circle in East Dallas, which is just off of the older part of Swiss Avenue. Bonnie grew up in the Cement City area (La Reunion french colony) of what's now West Dallas. Her elementary school is still standing on Chalk Hill Rd, barely visible from I-30. I don't know too much about Clyde's whearabouts before he met Bonnie. HIs dad built a gas station on Eagle Ford Rd (Now Singleton BLVD) with a small attatched residence at the read. He aquired the money to build the gas station after he was run over by a horse or buggy or combo of both. Anyway, most of this info is in the link above. That website has A LOT of information in it, and maybe something about Houston? John
  18. Thank you so much rvas! I appreciate the description. We're planning on being there the last weekend in October, but may come down sooner than that. We both fell in love with Houston when we came down last month. We'd move to Houston, but we love our jobs and our house too much to move! Well Puma, do you have any suggestions? My only requirement is that the place not be too dark. TMC in Dallas is so dark, that I got lost a few times, so dark places are a no-no. In addition, I expect any gay club to have some x-ed out twinks running around. That just adds to the atmosphere. Ron and I don't get out much, because we're so busy, so it's a treat even just to go to a club that maybe slightly annoying. When we go to S4, we only go see the girls in the Rose Room. Every now and then, I'll go shuffle on the dance floor, but since I dance like Elaine Benes, that's a rarity!
  19. Eye candy? I like that idea! We're not the jealous type. We both will check the same person out and laugh about it. We both trust each other! 5 years and still counting!
  20. To quote Jeebus from 2005, yes the street does go both ways. When I went to vote the last time, I saw the usual candidates standing outside. This guy that was running for mayor was just having a great old time passing out flyers with his name on them and his causes. When my white behind walked up to him, he completely ignored me as I approached him. Since I hated the current Mayor, I was going to vote for him. So, I just didn't vote forthe rude candidate. Similar incident happened to me while driving past an intersection with church memebers panhandeling for thier childrens' camp, and the other drivers in the car next to me. Also, I wouldn't call them "ghetto mansions." However, that term seems correct, in its'pollitical incorrectness. Who wants to pay a million plus for a house in a neighborhood that has an ugly McMansion with a simlulated stucco facade on two-thirds of the exterior and a hardiplank rear facade? Also an over sized porte cochere in front with 1967 Impala's with 22" dubs sitting underneath? I wouldn't! To me, that type of junk is simply that. Junk! No matter what religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation you are. Trash is trash.
  21. I believe the Trinity Express runs along old RR lines, and a large portion of the DART that runs along Lancaster Rd. uses the old Texas Electric RR lines (called the Interurban). As a matter of fact, DART uses one of the old interurban shops as it's own repair facility. If you go to local.live.com, you can see between S.H. 342 and Houston School road, along I-20 the old r.o.w. for the T.E.R.R. and follow it all the way up to the remains of the bridge that crosses the Trinity river back in the day.
