  1. https://www.bcm.edu/news/frequently-asked-questions-on-bcm-chi-non-profit-joint-venture Is there a plan for a heart center on the new [in 2014 at the time of this FAQ] campus? There is a shared vision by Baylor, Texas Heart Institute and CHI St. Luke’s to develop a cardiovascular center of excellence on the McNair Campus. With the strengths we all bring to this collaboration, there is no doubt that this center would be an outstanding place for cardiovascular care, research and education. We will all work together toward this goal. It is an exciting vision that again shows the benefit to the community of collaboration in the Texas Medical Center.
  2. The corner at front left in the last photo could be the Water District auditorium, since that site doesn't appear adequate for a 1970s school complex
  3. I agree. I think it's the right time now for such an idea to be discussed and discovered by the public too. You might want to submit it as a story idea to Houston Public Media's editorial staff. The visibility triangle would just make the square block fit an octagonal building and an octagonal covered sidewalk arcade. Development overhead could be engineered to cantilever over the visibility triangles and adjacent city blocks could then be linked by translucent crosswalk awnings. Even if that were too expensive to catch on, new buildings could still arcade out beyond the original lot lines everywhere except at those four corners of a city block.
  4. Just as a guess I would think that Seoul, Jakarta, DFW, LA and London have held steady or risen in the past six year period relative to other strategic socioeconomic megaplexes. One I would like to see more specific analysis of for this six year time frame is https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine-Ruhr_metropolitan_region
  5. I wasn't curious because I had forgotten this altogether. Nice treat to see it again. I don't still have access but it's an interesting question and I'm sure most of those cities have drastically underperformed so far relative to pre-Harvey projections.
  6. Plus hindesky makes four, will the rules be for a doubles match on a mud court?

  8. I wonder when they plan to put the second tower onto this one. Would be hard to keep classes in session while flying construction materials around overhead.
  9. Good updates. Man even that site plan could be improved by having some Discovery-Green-style-lowrise afterschool program snack and boat and bike workshop sheds on a central pocket green, instead of a proposed parking garage. Not sure why they want to go and make "at Bayou Bend" a generic first draft ad copycat name when it is already a specific local museum name
  10. I guess, Texasota, that if one of the TIFs like Third Ward really cared about it, then ... ...they could launch a brand campaign with a public mapping identity advertisement aspect. Maybe play up the 3 and a stylish triangle with Midtown, TMC, and TSU/UH at its corners? The success of transit maps like London, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Montréal at associating certain neighborhoods with certain rail lines would be a psychogeography wayfinding precedent for the effort here.
  11. At the blandly insistent corner of Business Center Drive and Medical Center Drive, eastward across the detention basin from the new VineyardPearland senior living complex and from DiscoveryAtShadowCreekRanch.com apartments, sitework is well underway for a "sports park" including Memorial Hermann's Sports Medicine Institute. I now see that one also opened in Katy four years earlier (autumn 2019). https://www.memorialhermann.org/about-us/newsroom/press-releases/memorial-hermann-sports-park-opens-in-katy
  12. Or put another way, linear density ticks the checkboxes for investor appetite, experiential walkability, and getting a breather from the vertical without walking more than a few blocks away
  13. Or maybe a Tron themed escape room? I have never been to that one; what are rhe coolest things about it, please?
  14. No height filings in the past 60 days on this area that I can see, though I haven't run an FAA radius search for prior documents. Either the approval is more than 60 days old, or Southern is flying under the radar, or they're not planning to start construction immediately.
  15. The northern frontier of the McKinney suburbs currently stands at Anna, Texas, ten or eleven miles south of this site. If this development goes forward as announced, there will definitely be only a ten mile suburbanization gap along US 75.
  16. I did not know this place. The bodily scale appears big and little at the same time, appealingly. It’s 1/2 villa and 3/4 cottage, and dignified modesty, not at all twee tinyhouse
  17. I take it back. Not that much delay please! TFW you notice you were not in the TMC Helix Park thread anymore, Toto…
