  1. Is it just me or does this seem taller in person that it did in the renderings? It's making quite a little impact on the skyline from the north. Great addition IMO.
  2. The headline is a bit misleading so to be clear, KLM is NOT ending service to Houston. They're just swapping out equipment. KLM was the last airline at IAH to fly regular 747-400 service. The last Boeing 747 flight will be this Friday. It will then switch to a Boeing 777 for one day and then switch again to the Dreamliner. Sort of sad news. I hate that the Queen of the Skies is being phased out. Definitely the sexiest airplane in the skies. https://www.chron.com/business/bizfeed/article/KLM-to-stop-flying-747-aircraft-to-Houston-12774329.php
  3. So just for clarity, there are two towers, yes? block 42: 46 stories, all residential. block 58: skyscraper, office. Floors unknown. Just checking.
  4. I just got back from Dubai and a couple of things occurred while I was away: 1. the Middle East isn't what the American media wants you to believe. 2. America is FAR behind when it comes to leading the way for innovation and design, transportation and gaudy spectacles that captures the world's attention. I'm not one to be easily impressed. However the walls of skyscrapers are EVERYWHERE. At one point I counted 25 skyscrapers (60, 70 and 80 stories!) all under construction at one time. That was just in one little area. If you were able to see through the haze of the sandy, dusty air, you'd see over a hundred skyscrapers going up simulataniously. It makes what's going on here in Houston or any other American city look very silly. What we consider to be a "game changer" wouldn't even be worthy to spit on in Dubai. The cleanliness of the city is unparalleled. It's embarrassing to think that the great ''shining star on a hill,'' aka the US, is littered with trash and festooned in Graffiti. The beauty of the place overall was something that probably took me back the most. No trash, no litter, no graffiti, no nothing. The flowers and hedged bushes are incredible. Every intersection, whether a freeway interchange or your everyday side street is lined with flowers and perfectly manicured bushes. The beauty is incredible. From the transportation systems to the airport to the high rise buildings, there's nothing that matches it anywhere in the world. I really wish America, a country I and many others pride ourselves on, could take a page out of their book and show a little pride when it comes to our cities. Granted, the Sharia law they have and the restrictions on freedom make our country far more superior. I wouldn't trade what we have in the US for what they have but it would be nice if we could follow the example on crime and littering.

    2018 Foreign Flags

I heard in the rumor mill that Philippines Airlines is making final arrangements for service to IAH from Manila via another city. Anybody heard this?
  6. Per a previous post, based on nothing but a feeling, I feel like this building will be the next skyscraper to go vertical. It doesn't make much sense in my mind (of course I'm not well versed in this sort of stuff) that they'd build a garage with the name-sake of the proposed building if they weren't actively trying to find tenants and get this thing to go skyward.
  7. This building, being of modest height, will appear much taller I think due to it being the only high rise in the area and it being relatively close to the freeway. I think it'll be a more dramatic impact on the area than other buildings of similar height elsewhere such as the Galleria or Med Center.
  8. Based off nothing but a feeling, I think this tower stands a very high chance of coming out of the ground this year. While the garage may not signal anything it sure seems very "Capitol Tower-esk" where the garage went up first while they searched for a tenant. Anybody else feel that way? I mean why build just a garage with branding on it if there was no chance of a building going up or it was cancelled? The way the economy is rocking right now and oil prices on the rise, I think it's a matter of time before this jewel graces the skyline.
  9. This is off the top-of-my-head stuff but I don't think 2017 was a banner year for adding new flags to IAH. Can we expect any big announcements for 2018? Is this the year we end up with Air India or perhaps an African Airline? Is there anything working in the pipeline does anybody know?
  10. So this highrise will be right next door to the Hanover Tower, right? That'll look kinda strange I think.
  11. Well seeing a new rendering can't be a bad thing although I don't see anything happening with this for a long while to come but it definitely causes me to raise an eyebrow. Somewhere in a corner office in Houston is a Clark W. Griswold looking at the rending of his pool just waiting for the ground to thaw so-to-speak...
  12. Between this, Capitol Tower, 609 Main and the other tower Hines just built (the one with the slanted roof), we could have put up a new super-tall. Why they keep building these crappy 30-something story buildings is beyond me. Clearly somebody thinks there's room for more office space and they're being leased or they wouldn't come out of the ground. Is there an unwritten law that nothing over 40 something stories can be built downtown any longer? It's kind of annoying...
  13. Could the future of this tower be in the details of the slab? Would they have poured a slab strong enough for a 40-50 story tower or is the slab only engineered for a parking garage? If it's the latter, we have our answer.
  14. So is this route still a thing or no?
  15. I was just about to say the exact same thing! Compared to the building to the right which is in the 30-something story range, it doesn't look much taller than that. Sort of disappointing for such a sexy building.
  16. This building is now visible driving down 45. It's rising pretty quickly.
  17. I saw this and about soiled myself!!! WOW! HUGE HUGE HUGE news!!!
  18. There's no hope for that area at all -- at least not in the near term. It'll be hard to shake the ''guns-point'' reputation. When Willowbrook Mall opened, it was trouble. When The Woodlands Mall opened in 1994, that mall was doomed. As long as the burbs continue to develop with new and flashy stores, there is ZERO hope for this area. Sad too.
