  1. Mattress Firm is coming together pretty quickly inside. No work on Pizzaro's yet that I can tell. And it looks like there is another space, furthest east, that Mattress Firm is not taking up. Will there be a 3rd tenant? Has anyone heard anything?
  2. I booked a ticket from IAH to SFO for Dec 30, for $80 one way. This was on Frontier when they first announced direct flights (back in September). Even with all their little fees, it was a pretty amazing deal - the $80 includes everything except for checking bags. I didn't see any changes in United's pricing before, during, or after this initial release sale. Kept an eye out in daily for months since I needed a return flight (Frontier's direct flight leaves at 6am which didn't work for me). Ended up booking on United miles to come home. I'm a little disappointed that my 2-month old's first flight will be on Frontier. Hopefully he'll forgive me.
  3. Mattress Firm signage added. Also added paper signs right on the corner door where the Pizarro permit was. Not sure what is going where...
  4. haha oops. that was NOT intentional. but it was funny.
  5. At the County level Dallas County and Harris are not usually blue. Definitely not Dallas Country, Harris can go either way depending on the race. City of Houston is. I'm basing this off memory of looking at major statewide and federal elections over the last decade.
  6. I thought the same, that it was US Airways. Anyways, Southwest has always worked very well with Boeing on maintaining their fleet. You can search around and find items like this for all the american carriers, and you'll also find much worse things over the years. The fact that Southwest has a proven track record, through the period where they were a true low cost carrier, is good enough for me. Here's a link to an article on the matter: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/11/04/southwest-probe-idUSL4N0SU4UT20141104
  7. I saw the signs and permits for Pizaro's and Mattress Firm. Pizaro's will be on the corner with Mattress Firm to the east.
  8. at least now when i buy my new bed i can walk it home rather than buy a truck! you know what else is annoying? being able to walk to 4 car washes. so its the pizza place and mattress firm?
  9. Southwestern Paint had a pretty big fire, i believe it was in 2011, i lived 2 building down at the time. They did reopen, then they moved soon after (to Taft), same time Bobbit Glass moved.
  10. The inside is completely gutted and cleaned up. They've added lighting to the front that looks pretty good. I haven't walked by in a while, took the best shot i could in the car:
  11. I heard that the kiosk food was going to be from Cyclones? Not a reliable source, just talk. Any one know what the plan is for that kiosk?
  12. great video Triton! I thought you were kayaking at first. Impressive how smooth the video is from a drone. Is it a Phantom copter? Project is looking great, filling out nicely.
  13. According to HCAD, 1800 St Joseph is owned by John Beeson. Did a little search and found this: http://realtynewsreport.com/2014/07/28/city-of-houston-rejecting-john-beesons-high-bid-of-40-million-for-tract-near-downtown-houston/ Article is about the land on West Dallas and Gillette. But if he does own it, he's a developer with a fat check book.
  14. Interesting. From window.state.tx: I really thought the sales tax rate at Baybrook was the lower Friendswood rate, but I haven't been there in 10+ years...
  15. Also keep in mind that there is a Main Event not far down the freeway (<1 mile). They have a full bar, laser tag, bowling, billiards, mini golf. I think they have some video games too? I think that's more driven to parents taking their kids, but probably still considered direct competition.
  16. I'm with you Arche. I went once in undergrad (st louis) for a bday or something. The only thing I know of now where people go (i'm in my 30's) is for corporate events. But that doesn't seem like it could sustain their business.
  17. Looks like they (D&B ) are trying to go public: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/06/04/us-davebusters-ipo-idUSKBN0EF2DQ20140604
  18. I have only been to the Houston Zoo once since it became private, other then that I went several times as a child in the 80's-90's. I was in awe as a child, then depressed going to zoos as I got older. This includes Dallas, St Louis, and DC zoos. The only zoo i have been to where it felt natural, the animals appeared happy, and it was a completely enjoyable experience was the Taronga Zoo in Sydney. The night zoo in Singapore also wasn't bad, but it was hard to tell exactly what was going on with the animals. Anyways, though I find it unfortunate how many of the animals are treated I am sure I will take my kids to the Houston Zoo (when I have some to take!). I understand the flow of Hermann Park and the open feel. But what if a garage was built across Hermann Park Dr, there is a surface there in front of the Conservancy. Even a 2 story garage with rooftop parking that has greenery/vines on the walls would effectively triple the size of that lot and they could convert most of the Zoo lot to expand the actual zoo?
  19. Pepperoni's next to BBs. I was going by and saw they were giving away a free slice as part of their soft opening. Got a slice of pepperoni, pretty good. I guess its a local chain with several locations in the burbs. Pink's is probably the closest thing I could describe it as (both the place and the pie). The guy said they were planning on being open til at least 2am Thursday-Saturday for slices.
  20. This is pretty cool. When I first heard it on the radio I thought it was in the Majors, but still very cool nonetheless: http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/05/27/astros-prospects-first-home-run-of-season-caught-by-his-dad/
  21. Pizza L'Vino is my new go to for hand tossed. Their ingredients are very fresh. For deep dish the two times I tried from there, it was way undercooked for my taste (delivery). I just popped it in the oven on a pizza stone for a few minutes and then it was pretty good. I haven't had Star in a while, but always loved their wheat deep dish. Never had any problems with soggy toppings. Franks for a late night slice for sure! I wish I could like Pink's more since I can walk there, but its just too expensive...
  22. Rent-a-fence for FPSF was being put up yesterday, just east of the Fed (same entrance as always). They were building a huge stage in front of that new structure, i'll post pics later. also saw 100+ planters with plants and small trees just east of the tolerance sculptures that should be going in. Dog park is moving along nicely as well, they have put in a few structures there.
