I found out the City of Houston owns the property (confirmed ownership via HCAD). Supposedly, the plan is to put a dog park there.

No other neighborhoods understandably want the hot potato that Greyhound represents. Where would it be relocated to? My money is on somewhere east of Downtown along the Green Line that could be developed similarly to what Austin has done with the new Mobility Hub that serves CapMetro, CARTS, and Greyhound. It's like METRO's old Intermodal station on a smaller scale.

GoogleEarth tells me that Oakmont house has been fixed up. Nice to see, but those roof windows look out of place. You can see a backside view of the house from the alleyway.
I know. It looks like a large forehead. And what's up with the giant rooster statue in the yard? I've seen similar roosters in other neighborhoods. Are they the pink flamingoes of the 2020s or something?

I will be the first to state- Highway landscaping rocks, when done right.
So of course each time I see huge stretches with no landscaping, I am so let down.........I always ask myself, in TXDOZt kazillion dollar budget for highway construction, all that upturned dirt, just waiting there, and there's no room for wildflower seeds? Ever?
I remember when the median of 288 near Brays Bayou used to be full of bluebonnets during the Spring. With the toll lanes added, I guess there's no room for the wildflower seeds anymore. Though I have seen them growing through cracks in the riprap.

Isometric mapping. Care to join me?
Why is there smoke coming from your horizon, Houston?
That isn't smoke. It's steam. Steam from the steamed industries we're home to. Mmm, steamed industry.

They basically stripped the original 1970s era tower down to the columns and beams, added floorspace and increased the height. https://www.cnn.com/style/article/australia-quay-quarter-tower-skyscraper/index.html

That's close to the present day intersection of Braeswood and Fannin.

The main thing I heard about Playland Park from older family members is that they could only go to the park on Juneteenth because of segregation. I'm guessing it never integrated since it closed in '59.

That endorsement was weird. It reads more like a non endorsement. If they had issues with both candidates, did they really have to act like they spun a wheel and picked one? Couldn't they have been undecided?

Is it just me or did all the Houston South Main Street signs get changed to simply say Main Street instead? I’m pretty sure I saw the remembrance of a “S.” on the green street signs.
Maybe even Google Maps has switched to recognizing Main Street, instead of South Main Street. Thought I noticed that recently.
A quick look at historical imagery on Google Street View shows a few green street signs having the S present in 2015 and blanked out by 2017 The ones that still have the S were signs installed by the Five Corners Management District. Interesting!

Did it work? Are we a World Class city now?
Also, how long until one of these gets hacked to display pornography?

That's very true. One of the few places there were good photos of the Chase Tower under construction that I was aware of.
The good news is that some of them still exist.
The photographer's period photos of Fort Worth appear to be in the Library Archives there. Some of his Minneapolis photos are digitally preserved and available online. Wish the Houston photos were available somewhere else.
I was able to access some of the photos using the wayback machine. It's a slow process, but it's the only way now.

The Holmes Road reconstruction from Main Street to Kirby Drive. This one is taking for ever! I did notice the street sidewalks are extra wide. There are also newly paved driveways into the Holmes Road parcels of land. It's looking very nice. The sidewalks are a dream. I believe the street will also get new street lights and utility poles.
I was thinking they would've been finished by now! I hadn't been that way in a couple of months and was wondering if it was complete.

The Cypress Park and Ride already operates like this, correct? There's apartments and retail connected to it.

I think proximity to refineries and the prevailing winds may play a part in why that area hasn't been as quick to develop as points north, south, and west of Houston.

It could be worse. They could replace Dilbert with Ben Garrison comics.

I'm not sure where to post this, but 3126 S. MacGregor suffered a small fire during the thunderstorms on 8/10/22. I did see a lightning strike in that direction before the fire. Looks like it was quickly contained and extinguished. I walked down and was able to see firefighters cutting into the roof I presume to gain access to the fire. The structure doesn't look to be in any danger. Hopefully they'll get a check to fix it without deciding to remodel it into something ungainly or decide to demo it.

The house that was there was torn down a few years ago. The house next door is one of the only homes left from the days when that part of Riverside was called Crescent Island because of the oxbow in the bayou.

That site will be home to a restaurant again, but it'll be fast food. The CVS was torn down and a Chick-Fil-A is now under construction.

Good thing I had not planned to buy anything from Mack. He needs to focus on business and charity and not play partisan politics.
Even though he supports Republicans when they run locally, he does work with incumbent Democrats when it comes to disaster recovery, so I guess that's something?

I'm trying to find info about that project at Scott St. on TxDOT's website, but can't find anything. Where'd you find out about it?
