Is it of a similar style to the Thompson San Antonio, just on a larger scale?

The Thompson is definitely approaching 40 stories and, as currently designed, shares a similar aesthetic to Hanovers 2nd BLVD place tower but with a more modern bent. Designs are still being finalized but they want the Thompson to be an architectural landmark and I think they are achieving it thus far. Presales of the condo units are needed prior to groundbreaking.

i still can't figure out why they aren't trying to activate the actual streetside retail.

How in the )(&()$*&$(*@ do you remain bullish about downtown and not make a move! Makes ZERO sense!!! Then he has the nerve to say "at some point." I hope at some point he steps down from his position and allows someone who actually believes in this city to move forward.
not to sound like an asshole or anything but you're a moron if you think Campo is sitting there calling all the shots. this is a publicly traded company with a board of directors and millions of shareholders. they have institutional partners, strong financing relationships and a slew of analysts examining every square inch of the market under a microscope. if i were him (or them as it were) i would take the EXACT SAME approach.
Camden doesn't exist as a charity to internet board members who simply want something nice to look at as they drive by on the freeway... it exists to make money. is Camden more conservative then most? no doubt. but they're not stupid. your rant OTOH.....

drove by, asked one of the crew - parking lot for a new restaurant/bar on the back end of the site called Goodnight Charlies.

still would've been better as a boutique hotel but at least it isn't just a parking lot.

that site would make an excellent boutique hotel... something desperately needed in montrose. damn shame if this becomes a parking lot, even if the parking is needed.

Found out today that the Atlanta Falcons are staying in the Westin in Memorial City next to my office. Just a little surprised they aren't staying in closer to town but apparently there's going to be a huge ramp up of security in the area and a bunch of side streets closed in and around the complex.
heard patriots at JW galleria and NFL at the Houstonian.

let's just hope the rain subsides after this week and we get two weeks of relatively dry weather.

self-funded definitely doesn't imply that they're forgoing debt, it likely means they are providing all the equity needed to line up construction loans, but that doesn't necessarily soothe over banks' worries on whether or not the loan can be repaid. investors are much easier to win over than banks as they don't have strict guidelines and regulatory hurdles to clear.

they still don't have their debt lined up as far as i know... they sound motivated to make it happen though so here's hoping.

As of 3 weeks ago they were not fully funded so this one probably isn't breaking ground quite yet.

Big loss for the houston food scene, I always enjoyed my meals there and concept was unlike anything I've seen here or elsewhere. That said I had my bday dinner there 2 months ago (on Wednesday granted) but the place was barely half full. I'd like to think that the location presented some problems but it did seemingly do well the first couple of months.
Id like to think they will revisit the concept in a more main and main location but I doubt it.

man oh man the weather forecast does not look pretty.... high of 44 and down to freezing on sunday with strong winds.

Sorry, I just don't think $1300+ for a tiny studio is a great thing. But hey, I'm probably not their target socioeconomic level.
I was speaker NGP purely aesthetics, didn't say anything about unit mix.

^^^ @lockmat imo, the far left tower appears to be a full residential edifice which shall include corner balconies. the outer / exterior design appears to match the LOEWS ultra modern exterior to some extent. nonetheless, a 455 room count is huge, and the amenity ladened podium base is quite justified and balanced. just a very well designed ultra-luxurious hotel that houston needs at this time. this gorgeous new LOEWS along with the forthcoming RITZ-CARLTON, as well as the highly anticipated W HOTEL, shall catapult houston straight into the gateway city stratosphere.....
lower your expectations, buddy. i'm not sure any of these "forth-coming" hotels are breaking ground anytime soon.

The existing renders are not accurate... site plan has changed considerably as has design from what was originally posted in this thread. There are two concepts I saw, the more value engineered one is what I described but don't take value engineered the wrong way... the design is still of a very high caliber. As always these things are a work in progress.
