Ok after dinner I can drive to that part of town and keep an eye out for it. I'll see if the police will help me.
Any luck?

We spent first 3 nights at Banff Springs Hotel, 2 nights at Jasper, now on our third night at Chateau Lake Louise. Hiked 10 miles today. The Canadian Rockies are just incredible. On to Calgary tomorrow to stay the night with friends then back to the Houston heat Saturday.

I just re-read post #1, it was the pool at the Gateway location, the person mentions the Crystal & a dome at the bottom.
I want to say the complex (including the pool, the skating rink, and the grounds) was called Gateway and they just called the pool itself the Crystal Pool.

Amazing. I never knew this existed.

The Shamrock opened in 1949 Gateway opened in 1958. There would have been no problem with putting a boat in Gateway and watersking in it. At some point they may have.
They actually did that at the Shamrock.

Does anyone else notice if HAIF is speedier?
It's noticeably faster. Thanks for the upgrade.

I almost committed suicide after not having HAIF for almost a a whole day.

Tried it once. Nothing great. The close by Xuco Xucana is way better so I won't miss them.

A friend sent me this link. It's the Westbury High School class of 62-65 web page. When you go to the "Tana's Reminisce" page you will find a ton of great historic Houston pictures and trivia, not just Westbury. Worth taking a look at.
Warning: turn down your speakers before you click the link. It's one of those pages that automatically starts blasting music.

and pissin everywhere but the restrooms there. The hippies are what killed Westbury Square. I knew some shop owners there that moved out because they were tired of the hippies running off their customers. The entire concept of the center was shop owners could have apartments over their stores. Plus in the late 70s the center was purchased by a landlord that refused to keep the upkeep on the place.
I don't know where you get your information from but I strongly disagree. Those "hippies" is what kept it alive for so long. Not just hippies but young people in general. What killed it, as you did point out was the terrible landowners and management. They kept raising the rent but did nothing to improve the place and did minimal maintenance. I knew some shop owners that just got fed up with the management and left. (They actually loved the "hippies").

The Shamrock pool was definitely deeper. I even took SCUBA lessons there as a kid. And those diving towers were huge. At least they seemed that way.

It's only a class 1 hurricane. I doubt very many people in Galveston would even bother evacuating for a class1.

They make it sound like NYC is going to be the next Katrina New Orleans.
Would be awesome. Wonder how fast FEMA will get there?

Wasn't this site being considered for the soccer statium at one point?
I do believe it's the same site.

You should do well at that location. Lot's of families in the nearby neighborhood that should love your concept.. You should benefit from the nearby stadium crowd on weekends.

When you have an internet site like this you must have some control over it. I see it as a rule to keep away trolls which are everywhere these days. If the only reason you joined this site was to make political comments then your probably at the wrong forum.

I don't know, but I'd guess it might have something to do with the Barnett Shale field under Ft. Worth. The mineral/gas rights raise land values.
That has to be it. These days gas wells are popping up everywhere in Fort Worth.

Once we form the Republic of Texas I think the first thing we should do is invade Canada and make them an unincorporated territory of ours.

IMHO I would define "wasteful spending" as unnecessary spending, which is why I used the words "necessary" and "unnecessary".
"The Federal Government should be able to protect our nation, most everything else should be handled by the States." - But protect how and from what?
"The best thing the Tax Reform Act advocates is a flat tax, which I also support." - Are you meaning a flat federal income tax? If there is nothing else to the tax code than a flat federal income tax, I don't think a flat tax would be feasible today, especially with such a large disparity in incomes existing today.
If your asking me to list every bit of wasteful spending ( unnecessary if you will) then it's not going to happen. Look at sites like Pork Barrel Spending or check the many reports of wasteful spending by the many federal agencies like FEMA, NASA, etc.
Protect us from foreign invaders. Protect our borders. Etc.
A flat tax would eliminate the tax loopholes that the rich use so there wouldn't be as large disparity as there is today. I would be just as happy with the Fair tax. Anything would be better then what we have now.

Maybe this will help...
What aspects of the federal government do you believe are unnecessary?
It's not just about being necessary or unnecessary, it's about efficiency. It's about wasteful spending. It's about being held accountable. The Federal Government should be able to protect our nation, most everything else should be handled by the States.
The best thing the Tax Reform Act advocates is a flat tax, which I also support.

What if I water my lawn every day in the middle of the night when no one is around?
Did you not read that article in last weeks Chronicle about all the surveillance cameras Houston has? They are always watching.

The remodel is coming along nicely. The mezzanine is above the deli/food prep area. I don't think it's open yet, though.
Oh, the "Please proceed to register (#)" lady has been turned back on. It wouldn't be so bad if they would change the voice/gender occasionally.
Gender is irrelevant at Disco Kroger.

* Refrain from washing any vehicle or motorbike unless the dirt poses a driving hazard
Does this apply to car wash places? Can I get a ticket if my car is deemed to be not dirty enough?

Invest in a liquor store. When times get tough people seem to drink more.
