Is the place still open? I have driven by several times and it always looks empty....the building looks nice - they definately spent some $$ fixing it up....

I was driving down Westheimer yesterday and noticed the Montrose Diner was closed....when did they shut down? I thought they were getting their act together...I guess too little too late....

I live in Alexan Heights Apts (I-10 and Studemont)....there were 5 break-ins yesterday - 3 totally trashed apts and 2 where they just broke the door down. Is there anyone with some advice as to what I should request from the management (if anything) to allieve my fears of this happening again? ie: better door/deadbolt, more surveillance cameras, etc.... I know they probably aren't going to do anything - they have an off-duty policeman patrolling at night - but nobody during the day (when these break-ins happened)... Feeling violated....

Im guessing youre talking about the yellow(ish) stucco things? I used to live behind them so I watched the entire (several year) building process....at least one builder went bankrupt or abandonded the project - another builder took over.....they took forever to build... I agree the floorplans were terrible - four stories, LOTS of stairs - I remember the master bedroom closet has the washer and dryer in it plus a door to a balcony! They were also very expensive...they went to auction at least once and sold a few....I dont live by them anymore so I dont know how many are sold now - but the prices were way too high originally (~$380,000) - I dont know how low they have come with the prices as I used to see signs saying price reduced. They are so badly designed that you hit your head on the ceiling/corners of some of the staircases (and Im only 5'11" !!) They do have great views of downtown - but that's about the only good thing I can say about them

America's in the Galleria is amazing - I take my mom there everytime she comes (actually she asks to go there)..... The Aquarium downtown is very touristy - but not too bad if you like looking at (and eating) fish !! Mama Ninfa's on Navigation is a good Mexican place...

My only objection for the condo conversion is that the units aren't a particularly good investment unless you are subletting the unit out and making money on the rents. Outside of that, I don't see much appreciation of the unit values. It may turn out like the Renaisance at Welch and Shepherd. They really seem that the units can't get sold. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The last time I drove by the Renaisance, the sign said 1 unit left !!

Now the family of the driver wants Metro Rail to be shut down.....what if a train wasn't coming through the intersection when he ran the red light and hit another car - would they want to keep all people from driving then ? Im sorry the guy died, but jeez, he ran a red light - lucky he didnt kill someone else....time to take responsibility for your actions and quit blaming everyone else... Getting off soapbox...

They are currently under construction - move-in is supposed to be this summer although that seems a bit optimistic to me - they are still working on the parking garage structure.

Does anyone know what is going to be built on the southwest corner of Taft and West Gray? It used to be a vacant old restaurant that was torn down a few months ago..... How about across the street - it looks like someone made the abandon building a drive-in !!! (and someone painted "Got Beer" on the damage!!)

There are townhomes similar to these all over Midtown/Montrose.....when I walk my dog - I probably pass 4 or 5 groups of them throughout Montrose...

I heard a rumor that Hamburger Marys is moving into the old Cafe Noche location on Montrose....anyone else heard this......I didn't even notice that Cafe Noche had closed !

Im currently at WAMU - mainly for convenience....I have only had one issue with them....if you deposit a large check ( >5000) they will hold it for up to 2 weeks...and even split it and hold a portion for one week and another portion for another week after that....they tell me this is their way of doing things so now Im aware of it....I bounced several checks the first time they did it to me....other than that, Ive had no bad experiences with them.....

I just rented at Alexan Heights and got 2 months free, $250 off first month's rent, and no move-in (app fee, deposit, etc) fees.....they almost acted like car salesmen and won't let you leave before making the sale for fear you are going to another complex....

Does anyone know what is going in to the old Stat Script (sp?) store at the corner of Westheimer and Montrose (across from Taco Cabana)....they are doing some big time remodeling....great front doors !!!
