  1. I was fortunate to see Juke Boy Bonner play there in 1974.
  2. Damian's was a very popular nightspot with live music located behind the River Oaks shopping mall on W. Gray. I know I went a few times in the 1970's but forget which bands I saw there. However, others tell me I enjoyed myself immensely.
  3. Hebert's Ritz Restaurant at 1214 McGowan was an institution owned by Louisiana-born Clifton and Lulu Bordelon Hebert. It was open from 1941-1987. I ate there for lunch in the early 1980's. Really great food. A few menus are attached along with a photo postcard. HEBERT'S REMOULADE SAUCE RECIPE Serve the sauce with chicken, seafood or grilled vegetables. The ingredients are pantry staples, which adds to the recipe's appeal. You can alter the flavor by using different types of mustards and vinegars. 1 cup mayonnaise 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon paprika 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 2 tablespoons vinegar ΒΌ cup chopped fresh parsley 4 green onions, chopped 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce 3 garlic cloves 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped (optional) Process all the ingredients except the eggs in a blender or food processor until smooth. Stir in the eggs, if desired. Makes about 1 cup.
  4. Blanco's (formerly Hondo's Hog Leg Saloon) had a good run from 1982 through November 30, 2013. The dance floor was small, but experience two-steppers knew how to navigate counter-clockwise around it without too many bumps. Featured performers included Alvin Crow, Johnny Bush, Dale Watson, Doug Walker (the yodeling "Pavoratti of the Plains"), Gary P. Nunn, The Derailers, Gary P. "London Homesick Blues" Nunn, Lyle Lovett, Rusty Weir, Shake Russell, The Hollisters, Jim Lauderdale, Jesse Dayton, Johnny Falstaff, and The Gourds. Joe Parsons (The River Oaks Redneck) seemed to always be there and somewhat of the Mayor of Blanco's. He and his wife were often the first to hit the dance floor. Gary P. Nunn performs a full set on Friday September 7, 2012 here:
  5. Johnny and Edgar Winter at ACT III in 1966. You can see the club name upper left.
  6. Does anyone have an idea of the price range for the condominiums? I suppose it will have a mix of 1,2 and maybe even 3 bedroom options as well as a penthouse or two. Too early to say?
  7. Demolition permits would be required to tear down the houses on W. Pierce to turn them into parking lots. I discovered that you can monitor demolition permits at this site: http://www.cohtora.houstontx.gov/approot/soldpermits/online_permit.htm I chose the "Owner/Occupant" button and uses the search term Thera Investments but found no outstanding demo permits. I tried again using the Address button and using W. Pierce but found nothing there either Be sure to complete the date search fields. I guess one needs to do this from time to time to monitor when the W. Pierce houses will be demolished.
  8. I think it was in 2020 that Houston enacted new minimum standards for multifamily units. I think duplexes remain exempt, but a quadraplex or more would be triggered. Curious to find a good resource explaining it all (tried and failed so far on Google). Curious to know if a quadraplex is grandfathered/exempt unless and until it gets sold, so new owner had better take new requirements into account. Also curious to know the more expensive categories that might be needed to be upgraded etc. And finally curious to confirm a duplex is exempt in all cases. 9. I live on W. Pierce and have some concerns about the potential expansion of the parking lot on my street. How can I stay abreast of further developments?
