I believe in them, definitely, I just can't imagine them reaching where we live. Scares me to dath, truth be told.

I've been through Carla. No surge. I'm sorry, I just don't believe in this storm surge crap. There is no way that a storm on Galveston island is going to put my home under water. Alicia - no surge. Sorry- I don't buy the surge theory. Media just trying to scare the hell out of us. It worked with Rita - but no more.

Bye-o. [long o]

I wish everyone would quit trying to scare us,and just listen to what the weather forecasters are saying. It isn't hitting here, it is going South. Period. Now stop it! So what does the WX have to do with it? If it means this person is claiming to be a weather expert - we don't know who he is, no credentials to show - why listen to him? Everyone needs to calm down and listen to people who KNOW what they are talking about, not this joker.

Crunch time for what? We evacuated for Rita, and for what? I just don't trust the media any more. I was here for Carla,Alicia and we left for Rita, and we should have stayed put. This time, staying put!
-
So what does that mean to those of us living in the evacuation zip codes?

A seasoned meteorologist told me that the only way to accurately predict where hurricanes were going was to check the barometric pressure of the areas likely to be hit. The one with the lowest barometric pressure would be the one to get the hurricane. Has worked like a charm so far!

Home Security System Advice?
PapillionWyngs replied to tmariar's topic in Houston Construction, Home Repair, and Improvement
We have one wireless sensor on our back door, because the original wire was cut during remodeling. We have to pay a fee just for this one sensor to be monitored, separately, because it is wireless. We went with a glass breaking alarm as well. As for the cell phone that calls if the line is cut, it is FREAKISHLY expensive - my mother has this, and pays $200 a month for her system, monitoring and cell phone. However, she lives alone, with no next door neighbors and her house is visible from the Gulf Freeway. She has no choice. -
Downtown traffic light synchronization
PapillionWyngs replied to C2H's topic in Traffic and Transportation
They haven't been synchronized since the 60's, as far as I know. -
The safest thing to do (in my opinion as a former realtor, is to take it off the market and INTERVIEW SEVERAL REALTORS to see which agency,as well as which agent appeals to the homeowner the most. And, yes, you can get out of it for any time for any reason. I don't care how "clubby" they are in the Woodlands, a sale is a sale, and I can't imagine anyone turning down showing a property just because there was a "messy" listing at first. Good Luck.

Find a new company. Period. New buyer's agent, and new listing agent. The company she is dealing with is just too screwed up, in my opinion.

What did we ever do to you???????

Proposing In Galveston
PapillionWyngs replied to ssgmun5000's topic in Galveston and the Gulf Islands
When my husband proposed, he took me to the Rainbow Lodge (old one) and we walked around the grounds. He stood me in front of this beautiful pond and told me to close my eyes and open my finger, then close the fingers on each hand when he told me to, making a fist. When he let me open them, there was a pink ribbon in my left hand - I looked around the pond, and right in front of me, across it, I could see where the blue ribbon had been tied to a blue one. When I opened my right hand, the most beautiful engagement ring I've ever seen was tied to the blue ribbon - he untied it, got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I say all this to say that, yes, the ambiance is important, but so is the way you ask her. Keep us posted!!!! -
Proposing In Galveston

The last time I was there, in the Strand, they had horse-drawn carriages. Just a thought, -
Just because Ike Turner beat the snot out of Tina, that doesn't make this a bad storm!
-
They still have a meat market and grille on 518 close to 2351.
-
What would make you think it would hit the gulf coast?

Crossing At 288: Retail Center At 2632 Smith Ranch Rd.

We have one out here in Clear Lake - off El Dorado. It serves pretty good food - just don't go if you are allergic to peanuts - shells and dust all over the floor. Also, some of the waitresses wear short cur off jeans, and the management has them line dance a couple of times every hour. I could do without that. -
What about Sander's BBQ on Park Place? Best everything in the world - and they were a meat market, too!

I loved the Velvet Turtle! They had wonderful food, and the best chocolate mousse in Houston.
