Shepnett Square: Development At Shepherd Dr. & Center St.
TacoDog replied to Urbannizer's topic in The Heights
The sign used to be 100% FM Kitchen but now it's only a third of the sign space and Pkl takes up 2/3 of the sign. I was surprised it wasn't 50/50 but I guess they expect Pkl to be a bigger draw.- 56 replies

new bike paths around town
TacoDog replied to samagon's topic in Bicycles and Other Low-Impact Modes
The twobridges instagram has turned into a Houston pro-bike project in beyond their namesake project. -
I think this is great news. Houston isn't well-known as a tourist city, but people are visiting Houston all the time, so it is good to see something new become a place for people to check out.

Was this last night? I saw several emergency vehicles there in the rain last night while I was on the bus.

With the entrances on the streets between Shepherd and Durham, does this mean traffic lights will be installed at one or both of the intersections? Will that affect how the Shepherd/Durham corridor is constructed from 4 to 3 lanes?

They should paint them to look like a huge tree.

Maybe the glass windows and doors should have been fixed before taking photos. Looking at the photos of an empty parking lot makes me wonder if these places are still in business.

On Saturday I saw a Metro police car go on the tracks to get past the blocked off block on Main St. and a woman who was behind him followed onto the tracks. Officer was not happy he was being followed, but it does seem weird to have a protected lane on a street when the green/purple line shares the street with vehicular traffic.

I wouldn't mind a coffee shop in this area, but they bought too much real estate for that.

That's an interesting location. Could have a another location inside Hobby airport, too.

They do have the signs, and there were signs there before that also said to yield to pedestrians. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7906213,-95.4054452,3a,75y,294.18h,88.1t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sxOIo6DQsF0zwYCcdqF4a_A!2e0!5s20191001T000000!7i16384!8i8192!5m1!1e2?authuser=1 Nicholson has yield signs posted, Heights Blvd does not. -
Pretty good photoshop, looks real.

Was it a real banner? That's kinda funny.
-
But how was it supposed to work?
-
I don't see anything on the map...

11th St. westbound at Shepherd is an awkward mess right now, as there is enough space for two lanes, but it is unmarked. Could a right turn only lane be added here? Or will it have two lanes to help with traffic? Also, the lack of bike lanes here makes me believe they won't continue along 11th St. to Durham's bike lane, which is unfortunate.
-
You can only do that in one of the two lanes which becomes one lane even though there are no lines indicating it's only one lane. "No signs, no lines," is Houston's motto.
-
They use a left turn arrow when there aren't any left turns in a traffic circle. They use a continue straight arrow for both lanes as the indicating arrow to exit the circle. An arrow pointing left does not mean continue going in the lane. I think the arrow should be circular to indicate the angle of the lane/exit. What actually confuses me is there are no arrows currently in the circle. You are expected to just figure it out that some sections are two lanes and some are one.
-
Those arrows are confusing to me, anyone else?

I think they tore down the houses in November. They had some vehicles parked there for a couple weeks, but it's been mostly empty the rest of the time.
-
I'm not sure if I'm in the correct lane or not when I go through this. I hope this makes it easier to navigate.
