    It takes 30 minutes to round trip walk from this location to the Kroger on 10th. Kroger’s location is not designed for trail users or to welcome people arriving by foot or wheelchair users. 

    Frankly I believe that entire block of Merchants Park is way overdue for a redesign and densification

    Hi, I would recommend emailing council members Abbie Kamin’s (C) and Karla Cisneros’s (H) office with your experience/difficulty crossing. Studewood is right at the intersection of their districts.

    Make sure you request a short meeting or phone call and tell them you try to walk the streets with a baby. 

     

    out of curiosity, is it happening around 6 1/2 st?

    When you consider how many people use these spaces daily, these photos are an important reminder of how their spaces will be affected. Especially for those whose homes are not being affected.

  4. During a public meeting today, the city announced 11th St has been reprioritized on the list of the Mayor’s Street Rehabilitation Program. This means that in addition to the proposed safety improvements, 11th St. will be repaved along two eligible sections:

    1) Shepherd to Yale

    2) Studewood to Michaux

    3) Yale to Michaux will not be repaved but will still be part of the safety improvements.

    when possible and within reason the city will also rebuild sidewalks and build out ADA infrastructure (!!) as cherry on the top, if the city damages any curbside blue tiles they will also replace them 

    this is huge news 📰 but I know they had to work hard to reprioritize in order to be able to do both projects at once

    it’s great that they’ll rehabilitate the street now. Otherwise the safety improvements going in now would have had to be torn apart later on when the city were ready to rehabilitate

  5. The East End Bike Plan - owned by Pct. 2 East-End-Bike-Plan.pdf (hcp2.com)

    Includes the Commerce St. Bikeway.

    This would effectively connect Harrisburg Hike and Bike Trail to Heights Hike and Bike Trail East Trail Head (note that the bike lanes on Chartres and Runnels aren’t visible in Google maps, but make this connection possible).

    Harrisburg Trail will soon have a connector through Lockwood Dr to the Buffalo Bayou Trail soon.

    With a Bike Lane in Commerce Street, Houston would have an ultimate bike loop available for all the income levels. East End has predominantly low and middle income households making bike lanes a necessity for those without cars. Having a bike lane, there would be added safety and attraction to the neighborhoods that might not be desirable to bike into otherwise.
