Discovery West: Mixed-Use Development Downtown By Skanska
MidCenturyMoldy replied to Moore713's topic in Going Up!
I didn't. I was merely relieved that my taste is not that of a kid. (I'm being somewhat facetious, here.) Though, I must admit, I personally think even BIG's most gimmicky projects beat Heritage Plaza hands down. Added note: My post with the link to photos of other BIG projects was specifically referring to their façades and not necessarily to the designs of the structures themselves.- 1,096 replies

Not me. I'm the one who posted the link to BIG's more interesting work. I'm continuously disappointed (when not disgusted) by the timidity of Houston architecture. But Heritage Plaza is still awful.- 1,096 replies

Well, I guess that means my taste matches my advanced age then because Heritage Plaza (no ‘Texas’ in the name) is a hideous monstrosity and the building with the hole in it in Dallas is... thankfully in Dallas.- 1,096 replies

Looking at the façades on other BIG projects just makes me go "WHAAA???" with Discovery West. https://bit.ly/3bNnIdJ- 1,096 replies

I would prefer a less disjointed curve with a horizontal pattern instead of this building's vertical. Not necessarily exactly like the buildings in these photos, but something along these lines. The Skanska design looks blocky to me...like, literally lining up blocks in a curved pattern.- 1,096 replies

I never called it "Cruise-y Kroger," I always figured "cruise-y" was a given with "disco." Anyway, I used to make midnight Haagen-Dazs runs there starting in 1979. They only had one register open, so there was always a line.- 332 replies

If people in "reality" television actually got fired for stupidity there would be no "reality" television.

Off topic: I was skimming through HBO Max's new "reality" series about the wealthy Vietnamese family who live in River Oaks to see how the shots of Houston look. Just barely into the second episode I turned it off in disgust. Can anyone guess why?

OK, not specifically for "Highrise Tower" but, I have to ask. For DECADES, when heading west on West Gray through Waugh, I would always see the two Four Leaf Towers straight ahead in the distance. I haven't been home since late February so I haven't been able to look, but I'm guessing this building blocks one or both of them. Somebody will, of course, go out and take a look for me...right? 😛

That's what struck me last year when I was in the sculpture garden imagining the removal of the wooden barriers. I also think the Glassell's plaza makes the garden much more inviting to people on the street.

Yeah, I know, but Dallas has a lot because Preston is a major road. The Chronicle's article states that "Preston" is being used by apartments throughout the country but only Dallas is specifically mentioned. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/Hines-renames-downtown-apartment-tower-15702576.php- 1,067 replies
