  1. brookfield purchasing the property means:

    they got a good deal?

they acquire more parking and space for future development?

will they now ask more for the office space in "Total Plaza" with a better view?

wasn't the property ready for redevelopment?

anyone reading between the lines and want to share?

  2. i danced with (next to) andy bell on the stage at numbers one night. no concert, he wasn't with anyone. he was just dancing, little girl's barrettes in his hair, butterflies, bows......he said he loved dancing or something like that. we didn't realize who it was until later. erasure wasn't well known back then.

  3. this may signal the end of an era...................how significant is numbers? let's reminisce....who has played the numbers' stage?

siouxsie & the banshees, REM, grace jones, the village people, stray cats, english beat, grand master flash, the waitresses, katrina and the waves, bow wow wow, the pointer sisters, wall of voodoo, the call, madness, marianne faithful, romeo void, the fixx, thompson twins, book of love, the cure, the cult, the divinyls, skinny puppy, ministry, the judy's, general public, clann of xymox, revco, love and rockets, jane's addiction, thomas dolby, big pig, jesus and mary chain, the church, mighty lemon drops, erasure, tackhead, sugarcubes, suicidal tendencies, the bangles, skatenigs, edie brickell and the new bohemians, red flag, thrill kill kult, front 242, the replacements, the pogues, split second, the pixies, the hunger, public image limited, nine inch nails, soundgarden, flesh for lulu, kmfdm, violent femmes, meat beat manifesto, die warzau, front line assembly, loop guru, consolidated, severed heads...just a few from 1980-1990.

will be sad to see it go....maybe they will upgrade the property; bring it up to code.

  4. A group of us just walked around to take some photos. It is locked up and a security guard patrols the property. He was very nice and told us that at the end of the month a fence will be erected and the entire property will be razed to the ground. Condos are slated to be built. Just what Houston needs...

He told us that there will be an auction/sale of furniture, artwork, etc. I am trying to find out when.

so sad....a complete waste. if you find out, post the info please!! thanks.

  5. Montrose tenants won't pay Kirby rents. Anything like West Ave. was never really an option at Montrose and Westheimer. And thank goodness, because Kirby tenants would completely ruin the appeal of Montrose.

    ditto!

does anyone know if the montrose blvd conservancy is still kicking? the walkable montrose plan would certainly solidify this area as "walkable".

i like this location for this building; however, i'd like it even more if the montrose blvd improvements were progressing. i do not see any activity on the conservancy website since '08.

  6. market street reports..."Openings scheduled by this fall include Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen where diners can enjoy the restaurant’s unique taste of New Orleans with great-tasting gumbo, hearty po-boys and other favorites. Another Market Street newcomer is The Cupcakery, a family-owned business with locations in Las Vegas and Dallas where more than one million cupcakes have been enjoyed."

a flying saucer town center location rumor has resurfaced....could be a good sign. although disappointed that a red onion concept did not materialize in the sirenuse' space at 24 waterway, the (fingers crossed) soon to be announced location taker will surely make other suburbs green with envy.

a martini bar concept is about to pop up somewhere in town center. an eye witness noticed some official looking "look-see" going on at the old chocolata location across from hubbell & hudson recently. do not know if the two are related, but the location would be great for a non-brew serving type establishment. on the roxx, maybe?

shenandoah's portofino center may be getting a spring creek bbq location along with the bj's restaurant & brewhouse currently under construction.

alden bridge residents will have a new healthy eatery featuring gluten free menu items, near rico's in the alden bridge shopping center.

lest i forget, kita, the new japanese restaurant at 24 waterway is delicious (and beautiful)!

the woodlands township recently approved a $25K study for a permanent performing arts location in town center.

the waterway marriott is undergoing or about to undergo a multi-million dollar update. the senior living center on the waterway at grogan's mill is topped out....still anxious about the facade. i so hope they don't go "brick"! give me cement, steel, glass or stone please.

  7. walmart at this location will be a big success.....and if it doesn't look like every other walmart, great.

(....and yes, i like to do the clicky ratings buttons without explanation. you can't make me talk! :P some people don't want to get into the mix but want to be a part of it on some level. no need to call them out, it's kinda unfriendly.)

  8. added several historic houston items today. a cousin forwarded several scans of houston places and people recently: pictures include the alabama theater, marvin zindler, 7 eleven, humble oil gas station, blue grass inn/kentucky fried chicken, astroworld, shamrock......thought some of you would enjoy.

  9. I remember Der Weinerschnitzel... I went to the one in Pasadena, on Southmore, in the late 1960's. It was close to the Foley's.

You drove thru a short little tunnel in the A-frame, to the drive-in window to order your hotdog. I always thought the sauerkraut option was bizarre, I was only 6 or so.

For some reason, I remember the soda cups, probably paper "Dixie" cups, white paper wax with those horizontal green chain designs at the top.

As far as the food quality, I can't recall.

the one at southmore and witter is the same one my dad used to take me to. i, too, was around six.

  10. town center scores a tiffany & co at market street. bobby chan joins norton ditto in the menswear offerings also at market street.

kita japanese cuisine opens at 24 waterway july 1st.

on street parking, walkways, trees and streetlights continue to be added on waterway avenue, six pines, lake robbins and timberloch.

red onion is out at 24 waterway. flying saucer rumored to have scouted the area, but woodlands not sure if they want another drinking establishment so close to baker street, goose's acre and 24 rio.

pure is open on research forest near gosling. hubbell & hudson express to go in new mixed use building across the street.

the luxury senior living complex "the village" at the woodlands waterway to open later this year. http://www.bridgewood.us/current5.html i'm anxious to see if the exterior facade looks less institutional than the rendering. i think it's meant to be modern but could go either way.
