  1. It would be more realistic to compare TMC to Dallas' Medical District and/or Market Center - all are business districts - TMC wins, hands down

Uptown Dallas should be compared to Midtown Houston - both urban neighborhoods adjacent to downtown - in this case Dallas probably wins

I agree, but who cares what goes on in Dallas? This city is too large to worry or compare to a much smaller city. We as Houstonians should focus our attention to cities like LA Chicao, and Philly. This topic should be more relevant in a San Antonio forum.

  2. The Cajun meatloaf was the first thing I had there and may have been the best. I had to ask what the secret ingredient was. She's never had the gumbo to serve when I've wanted to try it. The owner is from Nachitoches and has the meat pies on the menu but has never had them to serve when I wanted to order them, either. I'll keep going back because it's less than 5 minutes from me. Not the best soul food in town but definitely the best on the SW side.

They now have gumbo Fridays. You should also try their hotsausage poboy.

  3. I dont post very often but I stumbled upon this new soulfood restaurant in houston. It's called Lukes Place. They had the best gumbo i ever tasted and i ordered a hot sausage poboy as well. I think you all should check it out. The owner said she had been open only a couple of months but its worth a try. I believe they are located on the corner of fondren and braeswood. The parking is limited but it didn't matter to me. On the menu the address is 9600 fondren rd. houston , TX 77096 #713-988-6200.

  4. This sunday's edition of the Chronicle says that CBL is going forward with the project despite not having the financial support of the city of Pearland. so, this project with the macy's and Dillards anchors will go on as scheduled.

By the way, the article also mentioned a project located in Clear Lake called the Spectrum(1,000 acres). any information on this project?

  5. Well, since the Federal government is spending money to rebuild from the hurricane, then I, as a taxpayer, am spending my own money for the rebuilding!

The reason I brought the figure up is that, at $75K per house, she could help twice as many families.

As to where to build, New Orleans isn't the only city in Louisiana. Why not Baton Rouge? Why not Lafayette?

Why ask why? What have you done directly to contribute? Just give Oprah props for what she did and is doing and stop the freakin complaining. :angry2:

  6. There is a rumor circulating around that Tracy Mcgrady wants out of Houston. The rumor also states that there is a possibility that Steve Francis could make his return back to Houston in that trade. Some how the trade would involve Lamar Odom being traded to Orlando for Francis. Francis then goes to the Lakers, then the lakers make a trade to Houston. I don't know where T-Mac will ultimately end up, but this is still just a rumor right now. Hopefully we'll find out something today or in the days to come. I hope it isn't true, though. This would be terrible. :(

  7. What are y'all talking about Houston being a slow city?

Sure Dallas has more light rail. But, did Dallas have to build a line without federal money? That was a HUGE feat for Houston.

AND, as for no projects right now, some of you need to get out more. In downtown there's a huge crane for a beautiful new cathedral and the new Civil Courthouse is nearing completion. There are several smaller projects underway too, like the bayou trail improvements, Nabisco conversion, and Christ Church Cathedral project. In the past five years, downtown has seen things like the Aquarium, Hobby Center, Hilton Americas, GRB expansion, 5 Houston Center, Reliant Energy Plaza, Calpine Center, Inn at the Ballpark, and 1500 Louisiana rise. We've also seen empty buildings converted like Commerce Towers, Humble Tower Apts, Capitol Lofts, Magnolia Hotel, Hotel Icon, and Alden Hotel to name a few. Then there's been the major street improvements, Cotswold project, Main Street Square, and a host of other public space improvements!

Head South out of downtown into Midtown and the entire neighborhood has transformed in five years. There are smaller projects happening all over that stretch into the western fringes of the Third Ward.

Where Midtown meets the Museum District, there's the Mosaic proposal for two towers and the Hotel ZaZa conversion underway. AND, don't forget the Asia House Museum coming.

The Medical Center is NUTS right now. Prairie View ATM College of Nursing is nearing completion. Texas Women's University's new bldg is coming close to topping out. The 430 foot tall Memorial Hermann Plaza is well underway as is the expansion of the actual hospital itself across the street. Then there's the 21 story Faculty Center Tower that is in the clearing stage and the Diagnostic Center is coming down right now to make way for the 22 story Outpatient Care Center at Methodist Hospital. And there are enough proposals out there to make your head spin.

Head to uptown and there are cranes and projects all over. Seven Riverway is up to about 10 floors. The Granduca Hotel in Uptown Park is rising. The Empire condos is well underway. Then there's the Hilton Garden Inn that is nearing completion and the Homewood Suites that has topped out. Just on the other side of the loop, the Briarglenn is rising.

Out west, Sysco's new corporate headquarters is rising as well as new additions to several hospital systems from Memorial City to Katy to SugarLand.

AND, don't forget the boom in Galveston and proposals for Clear Lake.

The Houston Pavilions WILL happpen. I think some of you just need to buy a CLUE as to how long it takes to get a project this large off of the ground. We are talking THREE FULL CITY BLOCKS people. It's not like putting up a new CVS Store!

    i couldn't agree more.
