They're open for business but not many are going to be on campus. Meal plan sales are at an all time low

So who's moving into these new and shiny student housing and dorms? UH on campus students will be unprecidently low this fall semester. Moody dining and dorms will not open for fall semester. This is troubling.

It'll still be a fairly nice addition to the TMC skyline and will be a signature tower for that area--even at 35-stories. It's a good looking building.
35 stories? This horrible news

Houston has really become a top luxury market especially in the Central Time Zone. I know Dallas used to be thought of as a more luxury shopping destination for this part of the country but I don't think that's the case anymore. This is especially true when you consider Houston receives many leisure travelers from Latin America. This shows what a few mixed-use developments and marketing will do to a city. Many stores now opening their first Texas or US locations in Houston more often lately than ever before.
You really think so?

Houston. You're getting fancy on me! I love this one. Houston's skyline is going to be in the shape of an "I" soon. Keep building Houston.

^ Just wanted to let you know that your post are always so annoying to try to read so I never read them. Have no idea what you are saying because it's just not worth the headache. I don't think this ornamental stuff is the least bit entertaining. I'm sure you're a nice guy and all. But these cheap graphics and bizarre showboating is stupid. That's all. G'day!
Loosen up a bit. Midtown is taking off. The countdown has started. Give G class a break.

That restaurant space is big time! Can you imagine the views? I can only imagine the restaurant this development would attract. Emeril's?

Supertalls, even in cities as Dense as NYC are rare.
NYC only has 12 buildings that are over 1000 ft and 3 of them are what I would consider hyper rich residential ego trips.. As far as skyscraper breakdown, Wikipedia provided a nice table. (no idea how up to date it is)
Rank City ≥1,000 ft
(305 m)≥900 ft
(274 m)≥800 ft
(244 m)≥700 ft
(213 m)≥600 ft
(183 m)≥500 ft
(152 m)≥400 ft
(122 m)Total 1 New York City 12 9 14 35 69 150 255 544 2 Chicago 6 2 6 8 27 68 101 218 3 Miami 0 0 1 9 9 32 36 87 4 San Francisco 1 0 3 2 4 13 32 55 5 Houston 1 2 0 7 8 18 22 53 6 Los Angeles 2 0 1 6 9 10 17 45 7 Seattle 0 1 0 3 3 12 23 42 8 Las Vegas 0 0 0 1 8 7 25 41 9 Atlanta 1 0 2 2 6 5 24 40 10 Philadelphia 1 2 1 3 1 6 18 32 Right now, Houstons office market cant really support a thousand footer and our residential market isnt hot enough for gazillionares to fork over investment for 1000'+ Condo high rises.
My personal wishlist, build a beautiful 1200' building on Block 142. Then infill every other surface lot downtown with 10-15 story buildings-- same for midtown.
Also, Dallas has a 1000'+ on the drawing board right now: https://www.papercitymag.com/real-estate/dallas-smart-district-tallest-high-tech-skyscrapers-amazon-headquarters/
And for my own City Pride, I'd like Houston to retain the taller skyline
Is this the elephant in the room?

It is amazing how much ugly is getting replaced all across the city - throw in some nice new parks - some transit improvements - some urban enclaves - and you won't hear it said Houston is an ugly city (Dallasites) anymore from back in the day when there were billboards everywhere, industrial, endless strip centers, and odd neighbors from no zoning
You're right. I have noticed a shift in how we look as a city since I moved here in 98. Houston is almost unrecognizable today in a great way. There's still a lot of work to do but we've come a long way. Go Houston!

With all due respect, I assume the reason Houston does not have a Grand Central Market is because we are blessed to have H.E.B? I've been to NYC and they're best market can't hold a candle to my neighborhood H.E.B. I stand to be corrected. As for this project, I'm on the fence.

What hotel component? I don't ever recall a hotel being planned here.
In the HBJ article it stated when the property was first purchased on 2015 by Lovett, the developer mentioned plans of a hotel as one part of the development. Did i interpret this incorrectly?

I wonder what hotel brand will go here.Driving down Richmond Ave won't be the same, in a good way.

Who wins the decade?
1. Post Oak
2. Downtown (DLI, Hines bumper crop, GRB, hotels galore, HSPVA etc)
3. Med Center usual robust additions, I think next decade is where they win wth TMC3
4. Midtown resurgence (Little Australia, Superblock, Innovation District)
5. Oil HQs - Exxon etc - low rise but massive and Energy Corridor build up (high vacancy though)
6.River Oaks District and the new wall of buildings there
7. Buffalo Bayou and other parks
8. Upper Kirby
9. Museum District
Great question! Needs it own thread through.

Hopefully the hotel component stays or is this wishful thinking?

I agree it's a weird site now but this will be a prime spot in the future after Mcnair development. Sometimes it takes developments to long to come to fruition here. Frustrating.
