  1. I think you need to remember where you're asking this question. I will not attempt to answer the cultural stuff, because both areas can vary tremendously depending in different areas and that's not my area of expertise. For instance Dallas has a lot of museums, but I don't know how they compare in quality to Houston.

Climate and weather however are my thing.

Both Houston and Dallas are much more extreme than Tampa. Tampa has a climate that is moderated by the gulf and more importantly, by the isolation from cold fronts coming from Canada. Houston is about halfway between Dallas and Tampa weather in most ways, as Houston also gets moderation from the gulf moisture/temperature and just a bit more protection from northern fronts.

I assume warmth is most important to you in winter. Houston is about 7 degrees colder than Tampa during the coldest parts of winter (around January). This doesn't sound like much but 7 degrees averaged over 30 days is a very clear change. Dallas is about the same 7

  3. Last time I saw you here, I was blasting your butt out of the water with your unsupported comparison of Houston to Seattle.  In fact, in all of your posts, I've never seen you support one yet, including today.  Too bad, too.  You can't imagine how much fun it is shutting down a bigmouth so bad that he doesn't post for another 2 weeks, like I did to you.

But, if you want to give it a try, we're all here waiting.

BTW, I'm starting to figure out why you moved up there.  You're as full of sh_t as some of their residents.  We don't suffer fools as gladly.

    I remeber that.
  4. Well genghi or whatever your name is .while i have several responses and re intrpretations of the scriptures that you have posted, explaining them to you would be a waste of time since your interpretation lacks revelation. do you need me to explain that. Or is that too theological for you. So, i wont Rip you one so you can keep the little dignity you have left.

  5. "These earliest accounts were handed on from generation to generation in songs, narratives, and poetry.

In those early societies there was no writing as yet and people passed on these oral accounts with great detail and accuracy."

Thanks for the link.  It confirmed my statement.

I have not come about my opinions lightly.  On the contrary, having gone to a parochial school, I spent a lot of time in church.  But, instead of accepting things that troubled me, I investigated them.  The result is my firm agnosticism.

My statements on this board are not meant to challenge or change your beliefs.  Neither will your posts change mine.  They were formed by a lot more research than 4 or 5 paragraphs written by someone who disagrees with me.

I still spend a lot of time researching the sociology and psychology of religin.  It intrigues me how and why people choose to believe in a god.  Being American, I am most interested in American beliefs, especially non-denominational Christians.  In the last decade, I have seen religion politicized.  It seems America had an epiphany.  But, in looking closer, what I see, is that Americans did not like conforming their behavior to religious rules...so they change the rules to conform to their behavior.  The churches changed their message, not the churchgoers.  It is just that now the message does not demand sacrifice...and so it is easier to be a believer.

That was and is my point.  It is not meant to challenge you or your beliefs.  I look forward to reading your opinions as well.

what are american beliefs? What religious rules are you refering to and how did americans change rules? it doesn't make sense."the message does not demand sacrifice." have you heard of consecration of the spirit? What message were you listening to,since you don't go to church? What churches are you refering to?Your view is so clouded.
  6. DJ:

These are Churches, not Fortune 500 companies.  True, they may not be doing anything illegal, but shouldn't a church and its pastor aspire to something higher than bare legality?  Aren't churches supposed to preach and teach morality?  How can you teach morality, if you are 'morally questionable'.  And why should I or anyone listen to a preacher who chooses his morality (stem cell research bad...my million dollar house and death penalty good)?

well then, who do you listen to or will listen to? frst of all Jesus wasn't poor and God definitely isn't. Jesus also was anything but humble, he stirred up every place he went.get a good understanding of the Bible first before stating hear say comments( i heard Jesus was an humble man)..... please. An humble man doesn't get crucified. Did i say Jesus wasn't poor?Just in case someone missed that.He lived very well. "Should a church and its pastor aspire to something higher." Higher as in what?Spreading the gospel throuought the world,Getting people saved around the world. Aren't they doing that? Why don't you join a church and make a DIFFERENCE instead of sitting here critcizing on baseless and unreasearched knowledge. If you feel more comfortable witha preacher who lives in a $100,000 house then so be it .Then you'll say that's too much and want him to live in a $60,000 house and then that "ll be too materialistic and you'll think he should live in a one bedroom apartment and so on. Look, God blesses those who walk in obedience with him and he blesses you in every area in your life.Even money. It's okay ,I said the "M" word, don't faint on me. Those preachers who misuse church money will be dealt with by God. Don't worry. In the mean time, start focusing on yourself and what you are doing and not doing. Seems like you're more caught up on materialistic things than the people you are crticizing.Knowledge is key.Peace out.
  7. That's a bit much saying that the entire way from The Woodlands to Clearlake is an ugly stretch. I don't see how Dallas is any better. The best part of Dallas is the North Central Expwy north of downtown but everything else seems old and country graze land. How many COW PASTURES ARE there in Dallas? at least in Houston most of them are outside the city limits.

i'll take an even lighter route and say that yes both cities have unique attributes and they both have their own nice areas and bad areas and one is no uglier than the other!

danes 75, read this over and over again until you get it.
  8. It's a better story when there are problems at a big church.  You can go back to the Swaggart and Baker situations for an example.  However improprieties happen at small churches too.  There are always cases of pastors getting into improper relationships, or money that turns up missing.  That is just human nature.  Bad things will always happen everywhere.  If you are trying to have a relationship with God, don't use other people's failings as a reason to stay away from church.  Focus on your own development.

That's the point iam trying to make.
  9. I already said what i thought about the church in the other Lakewood thread, but I think when churches start getting to this magnitude is when you usually start hearing about them on the news about money fraud. Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately, there are small churches that has this same thing going on.People stop with the hangups of big churches. It's insane.
  10. I was downtown on Easter Sunday also, but not inside.  I kinda got the creeps just watching everyone head over there.  It just didn't seem right going to church at a baseball stadium...although the Pope had Mass at a couple when he came on his US tour.

A survey is done on religion in the world every so often.  One of the last ones was conducted not too long after Sept 11.  What they found is that Europe has a higher percentage of atheists...but that the religous were very devout in their religion.  In the US, they found a huge percentage of people who said they were religous...but they found it to be an extremely shallow belief.  In other words, plenty of people say it, but not too many walk the walk.

It occurred to me that this shallowness of belief is a big part of why I turned my back on religion.  Why believe if you you only believe when it's convenient?  And how do you expect to convert me if you are only part time in your belief.  This new over commercialization of faith has done nothing to make me doubt my non-belief.

First of all you don't have to be those people. you can be that Chrisian that isn't hypocritical. You shouldn't live your life according to what you see other people do. i was always taught to do what's right even if you have to stand alone.God is the ultimate judge and it's that personal relationship with him you will be judged for. second, it is not the preacher's job to convert you. It is his job to present the gospel. You make the choice to believe.third, i don't understand the problem with mega churches. These churches were small churches at one time. Am i right? I've asked this question before and i've never gotten a response....so here we go again. what is a church supposed to do when it's membership increases? what? i went to a church with only ten pews. do you think the lakewood congregation could fit in that? It's ignorance. In closing, God blesses you for your obediance and he blesses you in every area in your life. Yes, even money. the most important thing is to find a church that you like. Don't give up.
  11. The Cowboys' new stadium will have a retractable roof.  So, it won't matter (at least not for the game itself).

weather does matter. transportation problems was a big factor in atlanta and minnesota not having the superbowl for some time.what good is a retractable roof if you can't get there in the first place? That's why i don't know why they are taking a chance and hosting the next super bowl in detroit. Those ice storms really hurt atlanta's bid.

  12. Hey, all you urban hippies - shut up, and let the developers build their mall. They would have built it somewhere closer, but obviously this was the best (read: CHEAPEST) deal. Stop acting like asses over the concept of people living outside the city-limits.

I'm worn out with this urban insanity. I wonder if some of these people are on zoloft.People start taking the whole pill instead of half.If you don't want to drive to katy to shop, dont. It's your right.Stop this insanity.
  13. Dallas will get the 2011 Superbowl.  That makes chances very slim that Houston will get it in 2010.  I don't think that the NFL will select two Texas Superbowls back to back.

Maybe so,but they better hope the weather cooperates during that time of year. The perfect example is Atlanta. Winter storm,no superbowl for you.
