Chase Tower windows are blowing out.
-
The noise will make sure of it. Hard to sleep with the sound of toppling trees.
-
From the main thread, taken by me:
-
I took the pictures, they're my neighbors. Us foolhardy downtowners standing up for the God-given right to be crazy!
-
Trees toppling downtown. Residents running around on street posing for pictures. Hope the glass on Chase Tower holds.
-
An excuse to party. Speaking of which, I'll check up on my fellow drunk residents... they've moved down to the community room, it got crazy on the garage roof.
-
Downtown is doing fine. Moderate wind, moderate rain, nothing special yet. Power, water, and cable all up and going.
-
Utilities DT should be fine, right? I don't remember if the power/water went out in downtown during Alicia, just all the glass everywhere.
-
I was drinking on the parking garage roof with a bunch of neighbors here at the Rice. We're all batshit crazy. It's windy up there.

Stimulus Plan nobody is talking about
desirous replied to burlesona's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Let's not forget our tax money going toward road maintenance. Roads are subsidized just like transit, except the bill's a lot higher. I never understood pro-highway people that argue on a tax basis... concrete is expensive. -
The Rice is hosting a hurricane party tomorrow night. I wonder if we'll get any Kirin from Azuma, that's my storm drink there.

Stimulus Plan nobody is talking about
desirous replied to burlesona's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Opportunity cost isn't that bad once you balance out the positive with the negative. The flip side of longer commute times is opportunity to rest, read, or work; and the reduction in stress from driving in traffic. Transit is great when applied correctly. It's impossible to wean a city like Houston off automobiles, nor is that a desirable outcome. -
Downtown traffic light synchronization
desirous replied to C2H's topic in Traffic and Transportation
The new scheme is wonderful. I live DT and can live without morons going down Travis at 60mph trying to catch all the greens. -
Can't think of any right now. Nothing beats the 1960/249 intersection of yore.

How's the traffic at that light in the mornings? -

Rice, yes. UH, maybe in 10 years. -
When will we get an extra lane on I-10 west?
desirous replied to HedwigTramp's topic in Traffic and Transportation
That's a bummer. It sure doesn't look like two months' worth of work. Phrasing may be key here -- I'm 99% certain the westbound mainlanes will open before the new HOV facility. -

Within a couple weeks, by the looks of it. -
I should've stuck with an architecture major back in college, if only I knew people get paid oodles to design this ____.

Free market - variable-priced tollways are a step toward that. Corporations - no. I don't want my freeways named after shampoo and dog food.

Calm down, I was joking about the statement having funky grammar and not being very professional in tone.

There are family and friends, people that remember when it opened. -

I'm quite fond of the Galleria; it's just that Houston deserves something else after 38 years.
