dallasboi
I thought so, just making sure.
But yeah Dallasboi just look at the picture map of all the projects that are supposed to follow Houston Pavilions and The Park in the next couple of years. What we're going through now is probably a Phase II or III just like Victory is being done in phases. I guess one could say Phase 1 of downtown eastside development probably started around the Toyota Center and Hilton Americas. Very similar to Victory.
-
I just noticed something by looking at c4smok's map. All the projects and surrounding developments around the park and Pavilions on this part of downtown to me definitely looks to almost rival the Victory developement. I know its not larger but could it be almost close to the same size as Victory? Look at the map. Seeing how the developments tie in to eachother, It's becoming more clear now how the topic starter thought to make the comparison.
BTW:I'll try to find a pic of Victory overlook. Or If someone has one already please post it.

The bridges are very wide. When you have a chance C2H, stand under them on San Jacinto. You really do get a better appreciation of their width from that vantage point.
Today I saw the bridge underneath Fannin as you suggested. I must say it was alot wider than it was when I first saw it. I think they've been adding on alot over the last couple of weeks.
-
Nah, its on the SE corner of the Beltway 8 and I-10 interchange.
Thanks Trae. That kind of makes me even more mad that they left light rail out of the I-10 plan. What were they thinking? That could've really drawn more pedestrians from around the city. I don't see how a pedestrian development won't be Transit oriented. Bad planning Houston, Bad planning!
-
Forgive my ignorance, but where exactly is this thing going up? I was at Memorial City Mall the other day with my fiance and all i saw was the Hospital directly across the street on the other side of Gessner. I even tried driving around a bit and couldn't find this development so i guess that means its not where i thought it was. Is it on the other side of I-10 opposite Memorial City mall?
-
No. There will indeed be retail on the bridges, not just space for people to walk. The circular parts are the pedestrian bridges. The parts that went up first will be retail, over both Fannin and San Jacinto.
How do you know this? The bridges seem a little small to be able to handle foot traffic and retail.
-
main street is pedestrian friendly. just look at this.
Cool find musicman. I feel like a bird going over downtown/midtown. WEEEEEE!!!! Although this thing is a little outdated, The Houston Pavilions and Discovery Green are still parking lots.
Oh and thanks for the article lockmat

No, this is a DFW SUBFORUM on a Houston based forum. Just keep it in perspective. And remember to be respectful when you visit someone's house. If not then you will get your ass handed to you. This thread has 'flame war' written all over it and should be closed immidiately.
If it wasn't for you guys up there always feeling the need to glamorize the lamest and most ordinary buildings, things and events going on in DFW (things that could not possibly impress anyone that lives in a city with over 50,000 people in it or anyone over 21 years old) so that you can get Houstonians approval about whether it is good or bad, then I personally would never hear about anything going on in DFW. I mean this silly victory event didn't exactly make the national headlines, did it. Neither did the victory plaza New Year's Eve, BTW.
We have our own local faux mardi gras event which is more established and looks like a lot more fun. It runs over several days and attracts about 250,000 visitors. Why would anyone in Houston care about dallas mardi gras. N.O. mardi gras, yes, Galveston, O.K., but dallas? Give me a break.
So people in dallas can now congrigate and walk around in circles under a bunch of tacky jumbotrons near downtown and look stupid. How is this relevant to Houston? It isn't.
Now go away.
Now now Mister X that was a little harsh. It's funny as hell but harsh!

Do you read your own posts? Let me help with this qoute: ......"no game to blame the crowd on this time!!!". That was a shot and you know it.
Why do they "hate it" if someone is providing information, and why do they "automatically take it as a Houstononian trying to prove to them how great Houston is over Dallas"? I can certainly understand someone at DM getting upset if a Houston poster was providing info with an in your face attitude, but you seem to allude that they simply hate it because it's about Houston. That seems a little anal to me.
I never said i understood it. Just go to dallasmetropolis.com and go to the sub forums. A poster by the name of GuerillaBlack is posting projects and a few dallas forumers on there have attacked him. I always try to put the dallasites in their place when they start the ranting and raving. My user name is ComingtoHouston. You'll see what i'm talking about
-
Not to get controversial but i visit dallasmetropolis alot and some people on there hate it someone posts information about Houston. They automatically take it as a Houstonian trying to proove to them how great Houston is over Dallas. Maybe Dallasboi was just happy to see Victory starting to get more recognition and its easy to come off as :in your face" when you're excited about your city.

Who?
Jesse?
Are you MIDTOWNer or his close relative or something? Your signature matches his mindset.
-
So coming up on 2 years since the most recent update, i guess its safe to assume this project's dead. Anyone with any other info?
-
The article was an interesting read but why did it say it was being created over within seven city blocks? Maybe i misunderstood the way it read.
-
^^^ I think he was talking about the OP, Macbro.
And I think the OP is right.
California does rock (especially during earthquakes).
And Houston does suck (in a lot of residents from California).
Hey, when you're right, you're right.

Also consider that a significant amount of the park is still "under construction", so you don't have the full impact of what the total landscape will look like upon build out.
True Dat!

Oh, you are just hilarious! The restaurant is almost certainly no larger than 12,000 square feet, laid out on 2 levels, meaning it probably has no larger than a 6,000 square foot footprint. On the other hand, the park is in the neighborhood of 515,000 square feet. This means that the restaurant takes up about 1.17% of land. And this makes the other 509,000 square feet feel "cramped"?
Priceless!
Look you don't have to agree with me, I was just making my own observation and stating what I perceived it to be. Also stating possibilities as to why a few others on this topic have said the park seemed cramped. I wasn't getting all technical on the actual square footage of the place vs the park. I could care less!
-
How do you know that the restaurants are larger? Just curious if they posted anything about the parks dimensions.
I really don't know if they are larger. I was just saying that the restaurants appear to be taking up more space in the actual park than they do in the diagrams, thus resulting in what appears to be a more cramped space.
-
From looking at the diagram and seeing the actual park itself, it appears that the restaurants are smaller and take up less space in the drawings, but in the actual park, the restaurants take up more space than anticipated, thus taking away park space and appearing cramped.

After reading the comments at the bottom of the article, Houston can not shake off that word. UGLY. I can't see why peolpe are always using the word ugly to describe Houston. Is it anymore ugly than NYC, Chicago, Miami, or LA, or any big city? I don't think so.
-
It was a nice turnout. I'll be sure to visit Victory my next visit to Dallas. Just gotta let me know when the next game is happening so i can see some people!
*** Just having fun Dallas. ****
-
Based on those pics, D/V was looking good new years. There were alot of people there.
-
I'm not as excited about this park. The space is too cramped and everyhing is on top of eachother. Maybe things will look different when the park is complete.
-
^^^LOL.. Where did you score that pic

Awsome. I thought all blocks would have 3 levels of retail, but looking at the rendering it does look like the block closest to Main only has 2. Either way it's getting exciting seeing everything top out!
I could be wrong but i think all 3 blocks do have 3 levels. Perhaps you're confusing the block with the tower to be an extra level maybe?
