  1. Well, at least we can all agree that we probably won't be seeing any more cranes going up at Victory Fort any time soon. And more than likely those same cranes will be migrating from uptown Dallas to Uptown Houston, to Downtown Houston, and to the Medical Center in the not too distant future.
  2. This time next year there probably won't even be one crane in uptown Dallas. They will all be in Houston.
  3. I don't exactly know where it is. I went to the website but I didn't see a physical street address. Here is the link. Maybe you can find it. http://www.emctx.com/default.htm There is a phone number on the website. So I guess I will call them at some point and find out where these drawings are. I'm dying to see how big this park might be and what it will look like.
  4. I saw it at: http://www.sixflagshouston.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=16 click on the link "New Park in Montgomery County" - page 8 This is technically an AstroWorld tribute website, but they have a forum board that has been the discussing the development of Earth Quest.
  5. Another article from March 4, 2008 http://www.hcnonline.com/site/news.cfm?new...35656&rfi=6 I noticed on a local theme park forum that there was a posting that states that there are finally some new drawings on display at the EMCID office that show the layout of the park. The drawings were not posted on the forum yet but it was reported that they show two large coasters and some other rides. This is what was listed. The Volcano Coaster Dueling Birds of Prey Coaster Glazier Mountain Bobsled DinoCanyon Raft Ride A Parachute Drop A Zoo Tram A Submarine Adventure A Skyway to Dinoland "and lots of other stuff". I've gotta get my butt up there and snap some pictures of this stuff (assuming they exist). Hopefully these drawings will be released to the media soon.
  6. Wow. That's something to shoot for. The day people call me out on forums that I'm not even a member of and almost never even go to - I will know I've hit the big time. I'm proud of being rational from time to time. At least it's better than never. But if rational means giving nothing but glorious reviews of plazas with no people, being impressed with cold, featureless architecture, or ogling over every 10 story building in the metroprairie then we probably have different definitions of the word 'rational'. I looked thru that infamous thread a few days ago. It gave me a little insight to what a cross section of Dallasites really think. And not the usual sad collection of trolls that buzz around this forum to gloat and tell us how jealous we are about every 7 Eleven being erected in Plano. In typical Dallas fashion, it looks like they nipped this bad PR in the bud before the bad news leaked out. I hope they reopen the thread soon because I actually think that an non-partial thread about the state of Victory Tower is a good thing to have at a Dallas based web site. I am really kind of surprised they closed it because I didn't see anything particularly vicious or trolling. I just saw some people expressing some doubts. Closing that thread is an overreaction.
  7. Here's the latest article I could find about the park. It's dated Feb. 20, 2008 http://ourtribune.com/article.php?id=2813 I'm not sure there is really anything thing new in this article that we haven't heard before. It says the park will be on 150 acres and should open by 2010, so it doesn't sound like it was based on the most recent information (could be a matter of interpretation). But it does mention something about an 'arctic room' attraction, a 4D theatre and some other attractions. I wish we would start seeing some articles that had some interviews with the actual developers of the park. So far, I think almost all the articles I've seen are interviews with Montgomery county officials. I want to see some detailed renderings and comments from Don Lessum, himself. I'll take what I can get, tho. But as long as people are still writing articles and county officials are still talking about it, at least there is a good reason to believe that the project is still moving forward.
  8. I saw it, like 15 minutes ago. I didn't catch it until today because of the thread title. So, I just wanted this cool tower to have a more eye popping title. That's why I gave an apology on my first post and called myself 'anal'. I figure the mods will delete this thread or merge it with the 'variance request' thread, but will hopefully keep this thread's title so that more people will know about this tower at HAIF. I meant well. -Anyway, cool project, yes?
  9. http://swamplot.com/live-on-tv-new-med-cen...wer/2008-02-29/ I couldn't resist any longer. I feel that every new tower going up in Houston deserves it's own thread with a descriptive name, especially 40-story ones. If I've broken any rules for creating a double thread for this project, I'm sorry. Please feel free to merge this with the "Variance Request" thread. But PLEASE keep MY topic title. No offense, JAX, I love your photos and comments. But this tower deserves more attention at Haif and a catchier thread name is all it needs. Anal is a nice word for what I am.
  10. O Damn! I was hoping that it meant there were a bunch of other big developments that we haven't heard about yet, that were just about to be publicly announced. I keep hoping that there will be another HP type development built nearby in DT. But I guess, we will probably have to wait until HP proves itself and is an unquestionable success. - at least a year, right?
  11. I admit that Niche and Kinkaid are light years ahead of me as far as knowing how big time developments get built, real estate deals go and so forth, and I have nothing but respect for their opinions, insight, and appreciation for inside info they give us - but IMO, we could have been waiting another 20 years to see these blocks go from being parking lots to having something as cool as HP on them. I may not have another 20 years to wait, so I couldn't be happier to see this development. Scaled down or not. Somebody needed to jump start retail in DT and get the ball rolling. There always could have been something better built, in theory. I have a pretty good imagination too. But at the same time, I don't even want to know how close this project might have come to being cancelled altogether. There were enuf delays just getting this project off the ground to have me plenty worried that I would never see anything but cars on these 3 blocks for the rest of my life. The really good news is that there are dozens of more surface lots downtown for developers to play with. BTW, what was that about 'coming along in the pipelines'? I love it when these guys say things like that.
  12. It was going to be an ugly building anyway. No great loss. In fact, I don't think it makes much difference if it ever gets built or not. Victory Fort will still be boring and sterile. IMO. I have serious doubts that Victory will ever be built out according to the original plans. It doesn't look very good when they have to stop building a structure before it's even finished or scale something down while it's still under construction. Too bad.
  13. Oh 214, You've been waiting a LONG time for reality to sink in. Just Kidding. I'm not starting up, I promise. I just couldn't resist. Since we've already waited 70 or so years to see a bunch of new light rail lines appear in Houston, and we have somehow managed to survive and grow as a city, what's another few years. I won't blow my brains out if ALL the lines aren't running by 2012. As long as this stuff gets under construction by then I'm o.k. with it. What's the rush anyway? Light rail is mostly for show anyway isn't it? Are they officially behind schedule now? How many years did it take to construct the Main St. Line once they broke ground? 2 years? I still think it's possible (however unlikely) to have all the new lines going by the end of 2012. That's still almost 4 years off.
  14. February 22, 2008 the EMCID Board, Dino Don & Marlin/Atlantis announced the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the EarthQuest Resort. The developer showed the plans for the 500 acre site and included features. Ground breaking is now planned for 2nd Quarter of 2009 http://www.communitychamber.com/custom2.asp?pageid=3007 500 acres now? Cool! I can't wait to see some renderings of the park. I was hoping that we would have seen some by now, but it sounds like everything is still moving forward.
  15. I would hope that the HP will capitalize on the fact that a lot of people would rather go downtown to shop than the Galleria. I don't see HP as much of a threat for quite a few years, but imagine how nice it would be to be able to park anywhere along or near Main Street and take the red line up to HP to buy whatever cool things that you might need. Not having to deal with traffic around the Galleria sounds like a legitimate marketing ploy to me.
  16. I hope the person that made this rendering got the height right in relation to the rest of the skyline. If this is correct, Discovery Tower will make a bigger impact on the skyline than I thought it would. It will make DT look wider from a distance from the north/south. Cool! Has the height (in feet) of Discovery Tower ever been announced. I know is supposed to be 30 or 31 floors, so I assumed it would be taller than the 27 floor 5 Houston Center building (the tower on the block due west), but these google renderings show it as being about as tall as the new 37 floor One Park Place. BTW, that small rendering that was posted here a few weeks ago which shows Discovery Tower with the park in the foreground, shows that Discovery Tower is noticeably smaller than One Park Place. I hope this latest rendering form google is more accurate, but I have my doubts. But anyway, it looks like the stuff at the top of Discovery Tower will make the building LOOK at least 4 stories higher. So, maybe it will appear to be about 34-36 floors even if it is only 30-31. Every inch counts.
  17. Please don't mess with Braeswood. N. and S.Braeswood are two of the nicest thoroughfares we have in Houston, while I'm certain that a tollway or some reconfiguration might be more efficient and DaTrain definitely has point about Houston have too much cement, this area looks nice the way it is. I don't want anyone messin' with Allen Parkway or Memorial Dr either. There's nothing wrong with 'framing' the bayous with nice roads and park-like atmospheres. I wish Houston had more roads like these - traffic jams be damned. I think we should spend our energy making the freeways and feeders (particularly I-45) less of an eyesore, but that's a different topic.
  18. People keep raggin' on this building, but I like it more and more every time I see it. This newer rendering shows a lot more interesting things going on at the top. It might even make all those people who want to see improved lighting floo-floo on the downtown towers happier. There certainly are worse buildings going up. Still, I would love another 10 floors on this one.
  19. Is it too much to ask for one of these on EVERY corner in Midtown? Seriously tho, this is gonna be very nice. This project is definitely a move in the the right direction for Houston.
  20. Speaking of that, I sure hope that building (if built) is TALL - at least 40+ floors, hopefully much taller. Don't get me wrong, ANY development on that spot will be terrific, but I really think the downtown skyline, and DG could use a building in that area that is spectacular and attention grabbing from a distance. It would be like a beacon to mark the significance of the EAST END as a hot spot or as a newly 'arrived' area - kind of like what Williams tower did for Uptown. Hey, it's no crime to dream about it.
